Chris Taylor?

I think those that are worried about Taylor need to look just how well he's done on loan for Millwall. We can't afford the younger types that can play in the positions that would command a big fee like say Jon Taylor of Peterborough. He'd be a great winger signing but it's not going to happen in our budget. So Taylor represents a real bargain. He's just scored 3 in 10 games for them and at 29 I don't see the problem!? We're trying to get out of League One and that's all that matters!

Forgot to mention, another positive with Taylor is that we'd be weakening Millwall by signing him, making their squad building process harder.

I'd like us to take Beevers off them too but that might depend on signing Tafazolli, with them both being left sided.

The likes of Duffy and Taylor are proven good players at this level. The problem is, if we don't go up, they're another year older and only getting worse in their 30s.

It's a risky tactic to sign a load of players of this ilk as it relies on us getting up this year. Not the way I would go personally but wouldn't rule out the possibility of it working.

Exactly what it says on the tin.

Simply making the point that we've already signed two older players, one of which being 30. And that it might be a good idea to now focus on younger players that fit more of an athletic body type with more pace.

Age is a factor, but he's just not a player I'd sign. He has little pace which is something very desirable in a winger, and we've already signed one slow winger, we certainly shouldn't be bringing in another. There's no way I can believe there's nobody better available.
Fair enough - makes more sense with the added reasoning.

Fantastic signing, do some people not want to get out of this division? Do you not want Sheffield United to play with two attacking, fast & more importantly STREETWISE wingers?

That would leave us with two sides to the teamed can be confident in; Brayford or Basham and Duffy and then Hussey and Taylor.

One positive for me is that, before we sort out the middle of the park, we would already have 2 wingers who can score goals. Getting 15-20 from the flanks would be a big benefit.

Certainly has my backing in terms of building a team with recognised scorers in. Beats having no goals from Coutts and Woolford from the flanks.
I wouldn't hold your hopes up on Taylor getting 20 goals . His record reads 33 in 254 for Oldham Athletic , 3 in 22 for milwall , 1 in 62 for Blackburn and then back on loan for milwall he got 3 in 10

No risk in signing Chris Taylor on a two year contract, just like Duffy. Neither of them will be too badly effected by age as they're not players who rely on pace to a large extent.

With those two in the squad we'd at least have two decent, productive wingers who can both play on both sides of the pitch. One right footed, one left footed. Both score goals - between them they'll easily get 15+.

Taylor would also be good in front of Hussey because he's a hard worker who'll help out defensively, which would be a boost if Hussey's not the best defensively and gets forward a lot. He's also a good height and has plenty of aggression, which we've been lacking.

The negative is that nor he or Duffy are that quick, and neither will be signing to be squad players, both would be starters. So we won't have that quick, direct winger most of us want to see. I think Taylor and Hussey would be a great, well balanced combination but the team balance would be improved if we had someone like Ariyibi from Chesterfield on the right.

I think we're likely to sign Taylor so I hope we sign a striker with pace to play alongside Sharp, like Eoin Doyle or Akinde.

Che Adams!?

I'm pretty sure the 15/20 goals is between Duffy and Taylour, not each.

He may even have meant 15-20 from the flanks in general. Including contributions from Hussey and a reinvigorated Beard.

This is an interesting subject re the balance of the team, a lack of pace but potentially an abundance of ability out wide and gets me to thinking of the Ched season. We had Williamson and Quinn out wide that season. Neither are pacey direct wingers but both skillful footballers who could chip in with goals and assists and who could tuck in to allow the full backs to bomb on. Given we now have 2 attacking full backs, perhaps we’re looking for a similar set up this time?

But, how effective will that be without a Ched Evans in there?

I said a striker with pace.

Adams is barely even a striker. He's certainly lost his pace.

I’d say he has decent pace but agreed he has lost a bit presumably because he’s bulked up too much. I’d like Wilder to get him doing shit loads of running and laying off the weights.

How Adkins and the staff allowed and possibly even encouraged him to bulk up is totally beyond me.

He was strong enough right from the start, but had pace too.

Only thing that would worry me is the lack of pace here.

We had/have a really slow squad and that hinders us in causing teams attacking problems and means we cant break on them.

We need some pace in midfield whether out wide or hopefully through the middle. Wilder has mentioned it in interviews, so hopefully will rectify this.

read at least 5 articles about us being interested in chris taylor so must be true

I can't see us getting Holmes and Taylor to add to Duffy. If Wilder likes balance as much as he says he does then it must be Holmes.

I agree although I think it started before Adkins came in. When he returned to pre-season training he looked huge compared to when he first arrived. I’m not sure how much is natural filling out and how much he has worked the weights. At the time, it didn’t seem such a bad thing because it was likely he would partner a smaller forward so my hope was that he could develop is game to be similar to Jason Roberts. Watching him partner McNulty in the pre-season friendly against Newcastle he looked very promising. But I agree he seems to have lost too much pace as a result. I think part of the problem might be his poor attitude in training too. Wilder really needs to run him into the ground to bring him back as lean as possible ready to start the new season.

Maybe Taylor is the plan B if we can't do a deal for Holmes

I'd like us to sign both, they're very different players and I'd like us to have three good wingers in the squad.

With Taylor in the team there'd be less need to play a target man up front because a lot of the balls could be aimed towards him, he could double up as a striker at times.

If Wilder intends to go with 4231 I could see us trying for both players. I'd imagine then we could go with Duffy behind the lone forward, Holmes on the left side & with Taylor on the right.

What I'd like about those three is that they can all play pretty much anywhere. They could swap positions during the game and as I've said Taylor is a very different type of player so we could change the dynamic by moving those three around rather than just swapping like for like.

We wouldn't even need to defend ever again with those 3 and a striker running at a league one defence
