Northampton left back, played 30 games in Preston's promotion season and came 3rd in Northampton's player of the year vote.

He would be my bet for Wilder's first target. Mr consistency.

However it's a bit strange, transfer markt says he's out of contract this summer yet there's absolutely no mention of him on their retained list... Infact there's no mention of how long his contract was on their official website.

Find it telling how Northampton chairman and Rob Page keep talking about Wilder coming back for a couple of players, I reckon something is in the works and with us not having a left back and Buchanan playing every single game of last season it just fits hand in hand.

Anyone know if he's took an extra year or something?
I imagine it wouldn't cost too much anyway, he's a 30 year old left back. But it would be great to have one who can actually defend, assist and knows how to win promotion from this division in recent years.

No idea what this bloke is like . I will go and respect Wilders judgement and decisions . One thing I think we are all in agreement with , for the spine of the side he will only sign trusted winners .

One for the future , covering your bets , will not happen.

This bloke may be one of them . We will have to wait and see . One thing we can be sure of under Wilder. , every player will be hungry and wanting to play for the shirt .

Glad last seasons shirt is being replaced , just brings back bad memories , negatives .

Seems to hold him in high regards.

What sums it up for me . How can little Northanpton sign winners with experience , when big Sheffield United just sign shite , losers , on big money .

Is it in built snobbery , we are too good , or we just too up our own arses to even think of players like this one previously . This is were previous managers let the club down and themselves. Let's play safe and sign someone we know and worked with in the past , never mind age , fitness , salary , attitude.

Thankfully Wilder will be changing the culture within the club .

You don't get much more 'winner' than two promotions in two years :)

30 games for Preston in League one then 54 for Northampton, could be a big signing.

I'll give any player we sign a chance, but can't say I'd be particularly impressed with signing a 30 year old who played League Two last season.

Also isn't this the type of signing Adkins got slaughtered for? An aging player who has played for him before?

He didn't just play in league two he was one of the most important players in the team and played every single game for a team which pissed it

As I said he also won promotion with Preston the year before

There really is nothing not to like about this signing, we need experience, we need a left back and we need winners and organisers. He ticks all the boxes.

Also very different to Adkins, Woolford and Hammond hadn't played for him for at least 4 years. Buchanan was literally in training with Wilder a matter of weeks ago.

Appreciate a lot of managers do it, but I'd prefer it if we avoided 30 somethings and ex players of the manager for once.

It heard of him before. Not that that matters of course.

Seeing as we don't have any decent left backs left at the club then he could be a good signing.

Let's be honest we don't care where they come from or how old they are if there good enough we like them.

I think there are better players out there. However it's down to CW. CW has seen him more than we have an knows the quality he has and if he is suitable for League 1. Also he knows the players he is being offered if better he will go and sign one of them.

Simple really.

Could certainly do much worse. Think he can take set pieces too.

I'd rather look towards Derrick Williams, Tommy Spurr and possibly Clint Hill and Joe Mattock though, who are all out of contract.

Would be happy with all of them apart from Clint Hill. Absolutely fuck that! I like my full backs to still have some sort of legs. If we were playing him centre half different story.

I'd rather have someone quicker and fitter too and he wouldn't be my first choice, but I think he'd make up for it to a large extent at L1 level by being absolutely rock solid, organising the defence and being a positive influence on the team. He's a leader and would be a great captain for us. Agree he'd probably be better at centre half though.

I would have no problem with this. We need players who will stand up and be counted when it matters and are consistent. He seems to fit the bill. Yes he is 30 so not ideal, but as he would not have a resale value then just a 2 year deal, not 3 plus an option on a 4th.

The average age of the squad is so low now a bit of experience wouldn't go amiss

True, the experience he has could be vital but he seems settled in London. I'd consider signing him on the right terms at centre half but when Buchanan and the likes are available at left back I wouldn't fancy it.

As an aside have you any idea on Buchanan's situation? Like I said he's listed as being out of contract but he isn't on their retained list... Weird

I suspect he'll have another year left if nothing's been said. He only signed last summer.

I'd suspect so too but transfer markt aren't normally wrong with stuff like that
Even if he's got a year might still be pretty cheap

1. He tried taking the piss out of us. when he signed for the pork.

2. He's wank.

We have far better options.

Shame about number 1, hopefully he's grown up a bit, but he's not wank by L1 standards. His size and technical ability would see him stand out. He's good going forward. When he was at L1 level previously West Brom spent £1m on him.

Who would you go for at left back?

I'm not a follower of other players like you Ricky. But obviously Mattock played for us when we went down, and was appalling. He's not getting younger or better.

I can't believe we couldn't dind better than that.

I always liked the look of Coker from Southend but I can imagine he would cost a fair bit.

If all that's not enough he has a conviction involving a cowardly assault on two women in a night club. I think we can do without that, don't you?...

I'll go with the lad that Tufty likes. He's impressed me with the much-needed cull and the no-fuck way he's approached it...
