I bought my ticket yesterday and I'm taking my 8 year old niece to her first ever match (try and make her a Blade!)

As it's such a quiet news day, can any regular U21 watchers give us a few words of wisdom on the lads we'll be watching?:-

Blades: Eastwood, Cummings, Kelly, Kennedy, McGahey, Semple, Reed, Gilmour, De Girolamo, Brooks (Brown 109), K. Smith (Hall 82).
Unused: Charlesworth, Ramsdale, Hallam.

How do we usually line up? 4-4-2?
Eastwood
Cummings Kennedy McGahey Kelly
Semple Reed Brooks K.Smith
Gilmour De Girolamo

What's the style of play? Passing? Direct? Mixed?
Will Kennedy be making his final appearance having been released? (I think he should)
Will the likes of Adams, Whiteman and DCL be drafted in to help us win silverware? (I think they should)
If we bring them in, who should make way?

Eastwood
Cummings Kennedy McGahey Kelly
DCL Reed Whiteman Brooks
Adams De Girolamo

Not 100% sure, but I think they lined up like this in the semi.

Eastwood
Cummings Semple McGahey Kelly
Kennedy
Reed - - Gilmour
- - - - Brooks - - - - - - - - K.Smith
De Girolamo

The wide men are quite different as Brooks goes more central and tries to find pockets of space behind the opposition midfield, while Smith is a winger. Kennedy played as an anchor and adds strength to a midfield that is a bit light weight otherwise. Reed and Gilmour are both very good passers. Not seen them too much, but I think they generally try to play a higher tempo game compared to the first team and they counter attack better. We have also played 4-4-1-1 and 4-4-2.

Will the final be streamed anywhere?

i am not sure regards the line up. I dont think Kennedy is available now he has been released although not too sure. If available i would go with this

Eastwood,

Kennedy, McGahey, Semple, Kelly

Whiteman, Reed, Gilmour

Brookes, Diego, K.Smith

They play a high tempo, getting in behind full backs. I would say a mixture of direct and getting the ball down.

A really young side though.. 3 under 17s, 2 under 18s and the rest young pros.

Tough Tough game

What would your reason be for not playing Adams and Calvert-Lewin?
Surely they are eligible and it would add experience and quality to, as you say, a young team.
Is it sentiment for the lads who would be left out? Or do you think their presence would be disruptive?
I'd dearly love my niece to see us parading a trophy round Bramall Lane (even a junior one).

DCL i fully agree should play if fit but i think Adams has moved on from the 21s ................

only my opinion though !!!!

Just a reminder amongst all the new manager chat about the U21s playoff final at the lane tomorrow. They've had an impressive season and hopefully a number of them will be in the first team in the near future. They aren't responsible for the disappointing season, so come out and show support for what they have achieved for the club.

Kick Off is at 1pm and tickets are a cool £0.00 for Season Ticket holders and £3/£1 otherwise for adults and concessions.

Or you could stay at home and watch the Scunthorpe match again in full on Bladesplayer...

Kate :)

I'm sure Tufty will be there. After all half of them are supposed to make up our first team next season!

Sadly I won't be as I have to work this weekend. Would be great to see 10,000 or so there though

Agreed...reckon he has to be there really. I wasn't even born during his longest spell at the lane so all a bit new to me!

Last time I heard there were just a few thousand or so sold - hoping can get towards your 10k figure! Don't want people thinking there's only one play-off in Sheffield this weekend.

That's disappointing, I thought we might at least fill the one stand that's open (John Street).
We got 10,000 for the Man.U U21 final didn't we?
And that was 2 legs, so no chance of silverware being paraded.

30,000+, but that was the final of the most prestigious youth competition in the country - the youth equivalent of a FA Cup final/Premier League decider. This is to see who wins the youth second tier.

Well hopefully there's be some last minute purchasing. Need some positive buzz around the lane again.

Cummings, Semple, Gilmour, Smith all played at Charlton on Monday (my thoughts on them here: http://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?posts/1001240/)

I hope Callum Semple plays, as I was really impressed with him at centre-half. Strong, decent positional sense, left-footed, and attacks the ball with his head stronger than anyone I've seen in a United shirt since Morgs retired.

I think it would be a tad harsh on the young lads who have worked their bollocks off this season. They deserve the chance to win it.

Got 2 tickets this morning, hope we get a decent crowd cos they deserve it

I think it'd be unfair to bring in Adams as he's not really featured for the U21s, especially as some of the other lads have done so well.

This is to see who wins the youth second tier.

I know. Gives us a much better chance of winning the thing.

What else are people going to be doing on a Saturday afternoon and it's not like there are any other football matches of interest taking place in the region.

I'll be taking my 4 year old to her first ever game at the Lane tomorrow, my betting is she'll get bored with it after 10 minutes (she lasted 20 minutes at Scarborough cricket last summer but I think that was down to the chippy tea), which is why I'm taking our lass to entertain her when boredom sets in. She's probably too young to go really but I'm thinking get her into United early ... before she knows any better!

Hoping plenty will get down and support the lads.

See you down there
