Probably, yes. I think he took most of Burton's but I don't think he's an absolute specialist. Carey from Plymouth is a set piece taker and I think Anthony Forde might be too, so straight away that's three players who we should be looking at.

As for the strike partnership, the ideal partner for Sharp would be someone like Andy Williams, probably not him though because I think he's a bit past his best. But he's a decent runner, a hard worker, can challenge in the air, links up well and scores goals himself. Big mistake cancelling the deal for him when Clough got sacked, just typical that we'd do that... and then sign Sammon - who was also courted by Clough. Great choice.

I'd only be happy with Adams and Sharp if Adams lost about two stone and regained his ability to run fast. For a start.

Someone like Hanson with Sharp would be OK most of the time as long as we had pace and creativity elsewhere, especially out wide.
Carey is fantastic, far too good for league two.
Would be over the moon with Duffy and Carey on the flanks next season and possibly Ricky Holmes too. Wouldn't cost the earth.

Duffy and Carey are both out of contract so they're no brainers. We should be looking for an out and out pace option as well though. I'd like to think we could try for Nathan Byrne or Callum Harriott.

Byrne would be tough but Harriott would be realistic if he'd move up north.

I'd be tempted to keep JCR. good professional, tricky and capable of match winning moments. Still got some life in those legs too, easily within our top 3 quickest players but that's not saying much is it?

If you agree and big target man would be useful later in a game, why not the best in the league?
And I assume you believe this is Mr Hansen ?

I don't rate him at all for what it's worth and don't think he is the right man for us. Would be a bad signing.

IMHO.

DCL is good, he is fast, has a big jump and he is hungry to score

That Carey from Plymouth we need to get defo...hes great at corners and fks

I couldn't think of a worse partner for Sharp than Hanson. We don't need a big man alongside him because that is the type of role Sharp plays, getting the ball back to goal, holding it up etc.

Sharp's best seasons were when he was partnered with Andy Keogh and Jerame Beckford, so players nothing like Hanson. It would be nearly as bad as when he played with Beattie. Hanson may get 10 goals, but Sharp would drop from 20 to no more than 10.

I wouldn't be against signing a big man for the bench, but that wouldn't be Hanson. Why would he leave Bradford to sit on our bench? DCL to fill that role next season IMO.

If we really want a donkey to play up front, I see that Coventry have released Darius "Chief Donkey" Henderson...

A mates dad is friendly with Bradford's Lawyer, said this is pretty much a done deal.

That is my Chinese whisper trail.....

There's a good case to be made for Akinde.

Good age at 26, big, strong, quick, black, prolific in the Conference, prolific in L2 in an average side, will be confident and has a quite a low release clause in his contract.

I know he's not quite cut it at this level before but he was young then and plenty of players find their feet at a later age and come back up the leagues.

Fuck it, I'm on the Akinde bandwagon.

Black eh, it`s a yes from me then in that case

What does that have to do with anything?

Tbf I didn't realise just how good a season Akinde has had.

I'd not be against it, he looked out of his depth at Bristol but he's had a lot more football since then and scored league goals now which means a lot

Welcome aboard boys

He got a good number of assists last season too. And I notice he wins a lot of penalties (and takes them). He's got that power to get to the ball in situations that force defenders to foul. This video's from the Conference season...

that was worth watching if only for the calamitous goal celebration by one of his team mates at 5:40

He's always looked dangerous against us - but that could because he was up against the "skills" of jay and Collins.

Must say tho it would be nice to see someone win some arial balls after watching sammon fail to jump for a year / shrink when he ties

would be the first decent target man since cressy?

Thought Kitson was decent for about 6 months when he had mobile players like Blackman and Miller playing off him. Then it all went downhill.

Re Hanson, he’d be OK for doing a job of being a nuisance but don’t think he’d provide value for money. I reckon John Akinde would be cheaper plus he’s quicker.

Out of all the strikers in the division, when the ball gets chucked into the box against us Hanson is the one I'm most nervous about. He wins nearly all his headers and things happen around him. Assists don't tell the whole story.

As well as a target man I'd like us to sign at least one set piece taker and ideally someone with a long throw. Doesn't mean you have to be a hoofball team, they're just good options to have and will gain you points.

Halford was always useful for his height and throw. Wasn’t a bad footballer either.

As for a set piece taker, I find it absolutely remarkable that so few professional footballers possess this skill. I play non-competitive kick-abouts once in a blue moon and can still deliver a decent set piece. If I practiced every day, it would be easy to master them (unfortunately, this is balanced out by my Higdon like mobility). How is it so difficult for the modern footballer? All the time in the world to put a decent cross/shot in and they can’t manage it.

I agree the attributes you mention are handy to have but we also desperately need to get more pace into the team and footballers who combine these attributes are rare at this level. That’s why I’d prefer Akinde to Hanson as he’s big but also quicker than Hanson.

Beattie flu?

I was speaking to a Bradford season ticket holder about the Hanson rumour and he has heard it from their end also.

On Hanson as a player he said you'd be hard pressed finding a better targetman for this level, the majority of balls hit towards him stick (unlike Sammon) thus bringing others around him into play. He is an absolute asset to have on the field at set pieces in both areas as he's a handful in the oppo's area and when defending he is like having a 3rd centre half on the field with him always seemingly in the right place to head clear. The only downside is the amount of chances he seems to get and fluff.

Millwall almost signed him last summer for £250k and I believe(?) he will now be entering the final year of his contract so his price may be reduced from that fee.

I would rather play nyron nosworthy upfront than james hanson. Just a large weight upfront to lump the ball aimlessly up at. This tactic and style of football is more painful than an adkins post match interview.

i think we should be signing footballers not lumps

Nevermind that Jackson, you've got a lovely figure for a male!
Have you thought about modelling?

Why thank you kind sir..... Do you really think I can make it?!

Also added to my dogs, dentist's, dad's, lawyer trail...... £750k done deal apparently.
