Your Favourite Blades Goals

32 years have passed and this remains the best goal I have ever seen a United player score. Sadly there's no film of the game.

My favourite? Dane's goal at home to the Pigs in 1991-2.

Straight through Chris Woods legs. What a day that was

Jostein Flo goal at Anfield in a 2-1 win. Looped over the keeper at the Kop end and the away end didn't know it had gone in till he started celebrating

For me Tony Curry v Wet Spam and Tony Field stick out as I was there. Also Mick Jones against Northampton for comedy value cos again I was there. :)

Bob Atkins v Rotherham Utd away. Not much time left, it was a corker. If I remember correctly, back to goal, controlled the ball and leathered it on the turn into the net at thenscrapyard end. Cue mayhem everywhere. We stood in the Main Stand but towards the Tivalli.
There was a top team goal scored by Hodges v Luton(?) that involved Hodges and Deane playing a one-two on halfway, Deane running down the left and crossing for Hodges to score. Gammon was probably involved at some point too.

The Hodges goal against Luton was a picture book goal. I believe it made the shortlist for Goal of the Month on the box.

Note a young attacking full-back breezing past Dennis Wise, on the front cover of the programme for that Luton game.

Anyone remember the Andy Kennedy goal v Blackburn in April 1987? If memory serves me correctly, he was on loan to us and ran about 60 yards with the ball before smashing high into the net.

Remember that but in my mind he chipped the keeper....maybe I don't remember it that well. He scored against us for Blackburn 2 years later in a rare loss in the promotion season.

He did indeed chip the keeper with the defence trailing in his wake - left everybody from about the half way line and chipped the advancing keeper from near edge of the box - Kop end- Beauty - just beats the Steve wigley goal IMO

The best indidivual goal I have ever seen by a Blades player - trouble is like the Dellas one - not seeing it since means it gets better in your mind!
The Dellas goal for me was good but made all the better as it was probably in injury time - still a belter though - was just walking out behind net as it flew in and jumping about madly with my son Richard in my arms - he's now 22

Great goals all special in different ways! A bright light in darker times... Murphy against Gillingham. 97th minute took out seven of their players in scoring the winner. Their keeper kept everything out all day until Higdon! equalised in the 90th.

can remember one in the 70's Currie corner to just outside box and Woodward volleys it into net, think it was against either Liverpool or Southampton

Happened 3 times in the 1973-74 season

v Arsenal (h) in Sept 1973 although TC took a free kick from the left wing rather from a corner

GOAL - v Arsenal (h) 4.9.73. In the ninth minute Currie insolently beat Storey but was brought down on the edge of the penalty area. Looking up, United's superstar slipped his free kick back for Woodward to whip his right foot shot along the ground, through the packed defence and into the corner of the net.

v West Ham (a) in Nov 1973

GOAL - v West Ham (a) 10.11.73. Woodward's second was a terrific volley from some twenty yards that might have gone anywhere. It was hardly seen until it flashed into the net. He met a Currie corner a foot above ground and crashed it home.

v Southampton (h) in Dec 1973

GOAL - v Southampton (h) 22.12.73. Badger pestered Mills into conceding a corner and from the kick came one of the most remarkable goals seen at the Lane this season. Currie took it pulled it right back to Woodward, five yards outside the penalty area, and the winger hit another scorching shot which appeared to brush someone on the way in, but it was clearly Woodward's goal and the completion of a splendid hat-trick.

If the goal v Southampton described by Silent was a volley from TC’s corner from the Bramall Lane/John Street corner then that was my favourite goal. I was on John Street right in line with the shot.

I can’t honestly remember the year or the team but Silent’s description sounds about right. Only ever seen Woody and Paul Scholes do that.

Pure Magic.

Duffs goal at the pig pen to stop the daft bouncing twats will take some topping.

For others (excluding goals against the the pigs or promotion winning importance goals) I would say Wigleys goal v Blackburn mid 80s was incredible (he kept trying to pass it but no other fuk wanted the ball off him so he kept beating man after man til he went round the keeper and rolled it in).

Bryson's last minute penalty away at the pit dwellers (Barnsley) to win us the game 2-1 also lives in the memory. It was a fierce atmosphere that day and we were packed in like sardines.

Also liked Tony Agana's winning penalty there in the cup in March 1990 to win us the fa cup tie in extra time (2nd replay) especially after he had been getting disgusting racial abuse from the wankers at Barnsley. He took revenge by slotting the winning penalty in. Sweet.

I also loved the 'this mans left foot is magic' winning goal by Glyn Hodges v Man Utd in the cup in Feb 93.

In truth though, I'm very fond of all goals that Utd score.

Woody's goal against Arsenal was at Lane End, his goal against Southampton was at Kop End

I endured the Pompey unofficial season review and found the goal. Good but somehow not as great as I remember still a screamer though.. (skip to 30 minutes)

An amazing find – I haven’t seen that since I saw it from the John Street Stand.

Please have this gif for your troubles.
