It is easy to look at the team and to not r the amount of players who have come through from the academy (Peck, Blaster, Seriki, Brooks) but all of these have been around the first team for a while now. Am I being daft to be concerned that the next wave through doesn’t seem to have happened? Our youth teams have continued to do well and seemingly create good players but we don’t seem to be moving any towards the first team. Maybe I’m just not seeing something obvious but surely we should be aiming for a steady stream of youngsters at least being given a chance or else are we in danger of not making the most of the excellent academy we have?

We've got Sasnauskas around the first team (through necessity as much as anything else); Sachdev making his way back from a horror injury; and Marsh, Oné and Blacker on loan. Those five are presumably next, though there's a few others like Jevan Beattie who must be giving Wilder and Knill reason to watch the younger age groups closely?

Centre backs and strikers seem to be the hardest positions to break through for us.

Sam Colechin (18) has been in the matchday squad.

Would not be suprised to see him emerge in the next 3 or so years. Femi made his debut in 2021, but it's taken him 3/4 years to really develop and cement his position there. For the most development takes time, not often we see players hit the ground running like Maguire/Naughton.

I recall it took the likes of Jags about 2/3 seasons from his debut against Swindon in 2000 to really find his feet.

I'll also add to that. Wednesday have had a very good bunch from the 2004-2008 born bunch that are all in their first team or many have been sold on. Albeit they're getting battered every week at the minute due to too many of them. But it is no surprise to me based on a few good age groups they have had in recent years that many have emerged into their first team and beyond, by circumstance or not.

Think this is just how it goes with intakes - some years you'll get a glut of players able to make the step up and other years there just won't be any/many. You also have to remember the level we're at, they have to be really good to drop straight into the first team.

Wednesday have loads every week apparently, we clearly still have work to do.

The ideal surely is that you can start introducing academy players into the side gradually and give them opportunity off the bench when there is less pressure (winning 2-0 for example, rather than chasing a game or holding out on 1-0).

Wilder made it quite clear he felt the squad is a bit bloated and this definitely limits opportunities for the academy players (How would it look to Ings for example if we start using Beattie as a sub over him?).

We have a good record with young players (both ours and loans), there will be good players through the academy, its just a combination of luck and planning as to whether we get to see them and whether they can then make the leap up.

Jevan Beattie has been out injured for a while hasn't he?
Back now and I think he'll come through this next 12-18 months.
Blacker looked promising and I think Marsh is a real talent.
The loan will do One the world of good I think too and hopefully his game improves quickly now.
There is plenty to be enthused about for the future.

There is never a good time to introduce youngsters. If the squad you have is winning you are unlikely to alter a winning side. If it is losing you need an experienced squad to get you out of the fertiliser and young players will lose every game (see South Barnsley).

Would like to Jevan Beattie get some time, when he's fit and ready. Seemed to be doing consistently well for the U21s.

Luke Faxon impressed me and I'm surprised he hasn't had any game time or a loan.
