Pretty sure I've heard that he is on a pro deal of some kind and has just been recently injured and that is the reason for his absence towards the end of the season.

He rejected a new deal. He's older than the other lads, fair chance he wants to know if he'll get a game
 
His agent will be on his ear whispering about how he will be the next Messi and that he should move on for the big bucks (which coincidentally would mean Mr Agent getting a slice of the transfer pie).

Provided that the offer by Utd wasn't a piss take (we don't know the fiber details) the lad should back himself to break through this year into the first team of SUFC and be a consistent championship player. His shout though and I have no issue at all if the club decide to play hard ball and give others preference over this lad if he's had his head turned.
