Academy duo Sam Graham and Tyler Smith have signed professional contracts with the Blades.

The youngsters who have both enjoyed excellent campaigns in United's development age groups have put pen-to-paper on two-year deals.

16-year-old defender Graham has committed his future to the club until 2020, with his professional deal coming into effect once he has completed his scholarship.

Meanwhile, Smith's contract will turn pro on the 1st July 2017, after completing two seasons as a scholar with the club.

Academy Manager Travis Binnion remarked: "Sam and Tyler have both enjoyed excellent campaigns for both the U23s and U18s and this is the reward for their efforts."

That's three Academy players, all of whom are Sheffield born and United fans, that have now committed their long-term futures to the club during the course of this season, after Regan Slater signed until 2020 in December.

Chris Wilder in them specs looks a bit like...no...he couldn't be...could he?

Without anyone knowing the lads contract details, who'll be the first to say we should have inserted a clause that says (insert subject of argument here)?

What about:

-They aren't allowed to have agents
-They can't talk to other players about what they earn and especially not if called up for international duty
-They aren't allowed to leave to better themselves
-If they do leave, it is their responsibility to ensure that the transfer fee is 're-invested' and not wasted on a Desso or other infrastructure

I think that would make one or two on here content.

Can play football on a cow field ?

Even academy players can have agents, though granted its unlikely unless they are fringe first team.
It's more likely they will have guidance from the PFA.

It's a long slog, and genuinely hard graft for the apprentice lads. Well done to them for getting that first pro deal....even if it is probably below minimum wage.

Sam n Tyler.... Wasn't he that geezer in life on Mars? Are we all going to wake up and Currie and Woodward are back playing for the red n white wizards with Hockey owning the midfield again? Is CW actully a God who can also control time dimensions? The more I see the more I think he might be.

Sell em!, quicker the better....

Played 7-a-side with Tyler Smith when he was just 16. The young lad terrorised full grown men. Unbelievable Jeff!

Well done to both Bomber and Tyler. Thoroughly well deserved.

Those two added to Semple, Gilmoor, Hallam and Slater make an excellent young bunch of young professionals.
What I like is that the decisions on these lads is all down CW, Knill and Mitchell.
This is the long term project that CW talks about.
Each one of those boys have been at the club since 8 years old. It is really good to see....

Right lads [because I know you'll be reading this] target 300 first team appearances for the Blades instead of taking the first better/bigger contract offered to sit in some twats reserve team.

You'll still make a good living if you make 300 for the Blades and will be more than one persons hero.

Play a couple of seasons then leave with our best wishes lads if you've got an offer at a higher level. It's a fickle business and a short career, so if serious clover comes your way and you've play enough football to know your business, take it.

Agree, great the senior bosses well involved plus Binnion surely. Isn't that McCabe company man still involved as well - the contract deal maker.

And still only in your early 20's, if you have to leave be ready to step up. Just maybe it might not be such a big step up by then.

If someone offered to increase your wage by 4 or 5 times would you take it?

Sometimes they don't have a choice in the matter if somebody makes an offer that is too good to refuse then regardless of what the lads want if it gets accepted then they are going no ifs no buts just look at young Rammers initially he said no only for the club to advise him tI go!!!

Of course your both right but the system at the moment has all the power with the players.

How many of this years squad are ex academy?

Anyone decent [apart from Sharp and we've had to buy him back twice] are playing for others.

I really have a problem with the academy and don't think its worth the effort. Personally I'd put the money into first team signings instead.
