Even if we do sign him where would he fit in? With 3 midfielders almost certain of starting, Monty, Quinn & Harper, though most would argue that Williamson should also be in the middle and Ward on the right, with Cresswell, Evans, Camara and Hendo up front I really see him as just another winger that sits on the bench while we cry out for pace and width.

Isn't Yates a wine lodge? Piss warm Chardonnay, and her mates too? Do you mean Mark Yeates?

Perhaps Wardy is on is way out.
If he isn't, Blackie needs to find a way to kiss and make up with him because there's no sense playing Williamson on the right wing.

Ward is recovering from an injury or a slight strain isn't he?

I really hope/think that Blackwell wouldn't sign a player for money in this window baring in mind how little funds he has, if he wasn't going to use him or have him on France/Reid duty.

Yeates is only 25 but judging by his wikipedia page he either had a hard paper round or is doing an Obafami.

Agree. I was looking forward to seeing Williamson yesterday after all of the reports and was disappointed. It is very frustrating that managers, and Blackie is a master at it, play players out of position just so that they can play them.

To be fair to Williamson, he is wasted out on the wing. I can understand why Blackwell might want to play Harper and Monty away from home but at home - when the onus is on us - I feel we need to play Harper or Monty with Williamson. In the two real occasions we have seen Willo in central midfield at the Lane, he has looked very decent.

Nooooo! Harper must play - he's starting to look like the player who was always part of Reading's many and varied wins over us. Williamson must play as well for the reasons you state.

As such, if we want Monty as a defensive screen (and that's fine by me), then it has to be a 4-3-3 to accommodate the lot of 'em. This can easily become a 4-5-1 when we lose the ball because Ward has the energy to drop back. Given the lack of a left winger, I think this is the formation to go with.

Our best performances of the last 12 months (vs PNE in the playoff semi) used exactly that system. And I'm sure you'd agree that Willo and Harper are far better players than Howard and Quinn, who played in those games.

You're right about the PNE performance being the best of the last twelve months as a 433 but the issue with that is that Blackwell doesn't fancy it at home. If I was him, I wouldn't either. If we win, it's all 433 and great stuff from the fans. If we don't win, it's all defensive 451 and crap from the fans. So he plays safe with 442 ... Which means 2 of Harper, Monty and Willo.

Personally, much as I do like Monty, I'd give it a few games with Harper and Williamson in the centre to see. It looked OK against Palace and Monty could easily be added to that away from home into a 433/451 that was successful last season.

I think harper and willo should he the first choice midfield every week, but especially at homewhen we should be the team pressing forward. They both offer so much more creativity than monty.

Although I can't stand monty I don't think kb would leave him out away from home, but at least it is better than him playing every game.

I think the idea yesterday was that 'boro are quite strong in central mid-field and we knew they'd come and put an extra body in there and be tight. Playing the 4 we did with them being a tighter themselves meant we could counter their strength and extra numbers whilst keeping 2 up front. It also encouraged Walker and taylor to overlap and provide the width

And here's me thinking Blackwell picked players to try win a game.

Agree Williamson on the right didn't work yesterday but such a move highlights we could do with a Yeates, taking Blackwell at his word Wardy isn't 100% so when not starting we have little to no options, pun semi-intended there. This he'll prove a handy signing, looked good whenever i have witnessed him and can play either side, credit where its due Blackie think he's played this transfer window pretty well so far. So far.

Yeates is having a medical tomorrow! Woooooo!

I suppose this means someone is leaving!

I wonder if we're using the funds generated from the Cotterill sale & wages to cover Yeates? I would imagine the price and wage would be similiar.

Ward Willo Harper Yeates

tut no room for Monty or Quinn :)

I think you're right ;)

The word is from someone who rarely gets things wrong is:

Things are moving, in and outs!

We'll see!

Yep. Ive mentioned in the rumour mill. I have it on good authority that the following are going to be agreed shortly;

Mark Yeates - Permanent
Marcel Seip - To be made permanent
Gary McSheffrey - On loan until the end of the season

Matt Kilgallon - Financing all of the above with a £1.75M move to Everton.

You heard it here....wel not first but you know what I mean....

Team would look nice like this;

GK: Bunn
RB: Walker/Geary
CB: Morgan
CB: Seip/Fortune
LB: Naysmith/Stewart/Taylor
RM: Yeates/Ward
CM: Williamson/Montgomery
CM: Harper/Quinn
LM: McSheffrey
ST: Henderson/Cresswell
ST: Evans/Camara

Please note I have only included members of the squad currently in and around the starting XI!

So is he a decent player? At the start of this season the TV pundits were ejaculating at how well he'd fitted in to the Boro team, but I don't know much about him.

 Yes I remember that, they couldn't get more excited about him if they tried could they?

To be honest I haven't seen a lot of him but ive heard good things and watched him quite closely in the first game. He made some intelligent runs. Physically quite strong for a winger and has reasonable pace. If we can get McSheffrey as well we will have some great competition in the wide positions. Having said that, if they both come in I think that effectively finishes Glen Little and Kyel Reid.
