Interesting stats table in four four two regarding XG and points for the season up to now.
Liverpool even though top by 22 points are 2nd,Blades are 9th instead of 6th.
McGoldricks XG blank in front of goal is balanced off by Henderson’s 9 minus goals in defence stats👍

Premier League Shots in opposition box per game vs % of Shots in box taken (shots in box/total shots) 1581099141997.png

If I read this right, we are among the lowest in shots per game, at about 7. But about highest in that 72% are from inside the box.

Might have missed it but there was a lot of reading and not enough pictures
"That said, Dean Henderson conceding only 23 goals from 32 xGA helps. It also implies he’s the second-most effective goalkeeper in the Premier League."
Who was number 1 and is he English.

Not quite. It actually shows we are amongst the lowest in shots in the box per game, and that a very high % of our shots are in the box.

That means that the number of shots we have in total is very low.

That's not to say we're lucky to have scored the number of goals we have, though. It just means we only shoot when we have a high chance of scoring.

It'll be interesting to see whether our two goals from range against Millwall encourage us to have a few more efforts from outside the box.

It’s interesting in the same way walking in and seeing your dad hanging out the back of your mother is interesting

Tee hee.

The thread had XG very clearly in the title so if you aren't into this, why bother reading the OP?

Cracking retort though and I had to wait 4 hours in A&E at the Side Splitting Hospital, before I could read the rest of the posts.

You only found it “interesting”? I heard you went to VAR on pornhub to check for violent conduct.

You like xG I reckon

I'll take you at face value.

I grew in interest when the Bladespod started and Jay (Blades Analytic) made a theme of it. I'd never heard of it before but started to understand how it worked as a comparative measure. In any one game, it can be argued to be a blunt crude measure, but over a decent period it really stacks up.

Even a fan who doesn't get it, can surely understand the relative Hendo and Didsy stats.

It doesn't merit being centre stage, but is a useful objective measure of where we are.

If you don't like beer, then don't drink beer, but don't chuck the toys out when others are savouring a pint.*

* crap analogy but the best I could do after several pints of the aforesaid amber nectar.

I like xG, it seems a useful tool. When half the Blades population is cussing out Danny Webber for hitting the post, I thought it was a hard chance, not sure what the xG of it was but it would go some of the way to resolving whether it was good or not.
