WTF are United playing at?

Is that the same Hendrie who stated he could'nt wait to sign for Leicester while on loan there ????? He soon changed his mind when they were relegated.
To the people slagging Tonge you are doing a big diservice to a good servant to Sheff Utd, ok he has had a bad time over the last few seasons but I suggest a lot of that is down to circumstances of being required to play a more defensive game under Warnock in the Premiership and then being lumbered as the rest of the team was with Robsons slow sideways football tactics. Tonge was never a hard tackling ball winning midfielder and he never will be, he was always better running at defences something he has not had licence to do for a good few years now. Makes me wonder about some fans, a large section could'nt get of his back when he was with United and they still can't now he has gone but Lee Hendrie who has put in about two good perfomances all the time he has been here is suddenly what we have been looking for in midfield since the days of McCall, if he was that good Tonge would'nt have kept him out of the first eleven.:thumbdown::thumbdown:

To be fair, Hendrie said that when out on loan and if I was a player at a club on loan and not looking to have a future at my 'Proper' club then I may say something like that to get in the good books with a prospective buyer.
But he's come back to us, knuckled down and not said a thing to the press and got his fitness back only to have a foot infection keep him from featuring more upto now this season.
Hopefully he will show how good a player he is when he is back fully fit.
Fair enough he gets wound up really easily and reacts which isn't good, but if Blackwell can keep him reigned in so this doesn't happen very often, I think we have still got a strong candidate for a starting place in Midfield alongside Speed.

I don't think people are really slagging Tonge... just pointing out that they aren't truly devastated at his leaving.

Had he not received a foot injury whilst playing against Port Vale, maybe he would have come into the team?

I don't think it was purely Robsons sideways football, Tonge has been playing like that for years. The amount of times he runs at defences or attempts a ball through per game can normally be counted on one hand with 4 fingers amputated.

Yes he didn't used to be like this, but this is how he has been for the past few years. It is sad that he became such a stagnated player, however all Blades fans I am sure will be thankful for his ervice to the team.

The criticism, or perceived criticism of Tonge was in fact generated by the thread (see the title of it!). The response to WTF are UTd playing it, was to explain exactly that, why selling Tonge at the time, for the money was good business. It wasn't ever, 'You've been totally rank, never been any good, so good riddance!'

I say good luck to the fella and I genuinely hope that a change of club helps him to regain the form he had for us a few seasons ago, because I think he was never going to get that back whilst with the Blades.

tonge played with speed and monty! so how this is making him more defensive i dont know!

Exactly, how quick people forget. End of the day he was a total shit head last year and his all the supposed incidents regarding him and other players, the fact that he went to Leicester, thought he was the messiah and wanted out of SUFC. Obviously they were relegated so that's the reason why he didn't want to go there.

I don't give a monkeys whether he plays like Ronaldo, Blades expect things from thier players and Hendrie did none of it. IMO I don't ever want him to wear a Blades shirt every again.

How many good games did he have last season, zero fuck all. I watched him game after game and he couldn't make a 5yrd pass half the time.

Substitute Hendrie for Tonge in a lot of the above and that is the opinion some people on here are trying to get across... no passion, no drive and not living up to his ability.

The thing is about Hendrie, some of us have seen him this season - working hard, good attitude... and this is while playing with the kids and reserves. Surely if he is training well he deserves to be given a shot instead of put up against the wall and shot? If his attitude is right I really don't see why he can't be given a go. What's the point in wasting a player just because some fans don't like him?

Only my personal opinion Linz.

His conduct, his attitude and the various stories about him upsetting the dressing room make me belive he is no good for UTD.

People were telling me last year he played good in this reserve game etc..but not in 1 game did he look the part.

Like I said only MY opinion.

And that's what makes forums so interesting my dear :)

I'll tell you one thing though... Hendrie's wikipedia says he copped off with Jade Goody.

Now if there is one reason to keep him out of the team.... :D

You could look at it another way though. :) I'm only playing devil's advocate, but... Last year the guy did his pre-season on his own in a park and only got a handful of games to prove himself. There was quite a lot of unrest in the ranks right from the top down - including some of the fans favourites - not just Hendrie. So when Blackie came in, he stamped his authority and made the decision to ship him out on loan.

I reckon I'd feel like I'd blown my chance at BL so the most wise thing to do would be to try and get onside with my new club's fans - hence his comments regarding his desire to stay with Leicester. Regardless of your thoughts about Hendrie however, he certainly isn't a League 1 player, so back to BL he comes, with a new-found drive to rekindle his career.

He trains throughout the summer to make sure he stays fit, puts in extra effort in pre-season friendlies and impresses Blackwell with his attitude. Why not at least give him a chance to show us what WE KNOW he is capable of? God knows we pay him enough - it'd be a bit of a waste of money, more than anything else, to bin him off without granting him that chance.

Like I say, that's not necessarily how I feel but I think there's a few points that should be considered.

EDIT: Looks like I missed the boat in this thread - damn 10 words per minute typing!!

I know exactly what you're saying there, and fully understand those reasons and points.

But IMO he's a has been, he was once decent, but I just don't think he has the right atttude to cut it at this level.

And Linz if it's true about Jade Goody then he should never be allowed out in public again!! :)
