Would you ever want the Blades to lose?

I'm probably in the minority but if when we play Chesterfield at their place next month, we have nothing to play for (as I suspect we won't) other than the difference between finishing 11th or 12th - I wouldn't mind them beating us if it helps them stay up. I've got a soft spot for Chessy and when I was a young lad and not allowed to travel to away games, I used to get the bus to Chessy and watch them.

I went to this match and stood with the city supporters. We all got the impression he told the pigs goalie where he was going to put the pen (pointed to the side he was going to put it I seem to remember) and the keeper dived the wrong way. :):)

If we can do anything to stuff wednesday up that doesn't harm us I am for it.

Grummitt dived the wrong way but how did he save the penalty then? Was there enough time for him to get up again and change direction to stop the ball that was rolling slowly?

That was April 2002. People were willing Barnsley to go down, and United played their part by spending the whole of the second half pinging long balls towards 5 foot 7 Lewis Killeen.

I was livid because (a) I'd travelled from London to see that disgrace of a performance and if I'd have known they'd do that I wouldn't have bothered and (b) people have short memories. Walsall put us in the 4th Division - why should we help them?

I think we managed to do that all by ourselves by giving away a needless penalty, then failing to score from one two minutes later. Not to mention playing some dreadful football for the majority of the season!

No, you're getting mixed up with the Walsall goalie's antics for Don Given's penalty. Oh, how we were willing the ball to cross the line before the goalie got back from having a shit...

Isn't this thread aimed at all those real fans that don't ever want anything to do with the corrupt namby pamby cheating overpaid premiership teams?
Let's hear from those who would want SUFC to lose the championship playoff final!
:-)

I was listening to Radio 5 Drive programme this evening and they had an email from someone who described himself as a 'Massive Newcastle fan', who wanted Leicester to beat them tonight as he wants Leicester to win the title.

My immediate thoughts were that he isn't a real supporter if he wants his team to lose, so another team can win the title.

Can you think of any circumstances in which you would want the Blades to lose a game?
Not sure I can.

Absolutely. If it were the last game of the season and our opponents by winning either got the Pigs relegated or stopped them getting promotion, why not?

Oh yep sorry, that's what scan reading does to you. :)

Kinell Barney - I was all set for the protracted argument.

I'd got all my drinks and snacks lined up, locked the door, taken the phone off the hook, sat the commode so bodily functions didn't get in the way. Feel a bit daft now.

I would never want the Blades to lose in any circumstance so that it may result in a certain outcome for another club's detriment or benefit.

The Pigs for example, yes we hate them but some fans that have an obsession against them to the extent of wanting them to fail in any way is stupid in my opinion.

E.g. if both were in the Premier League and us losing meant that lot going down on the last day of the season then I'd at least prefer it not to occur, it's fantastic for the City to have both clubs among the elite. But that's not just it, who wouldn't like Steel City derbies every season because I'd certainly want them!

Like others I can only imagine a situation where we had nowt on it and it got The pigs relegated or stopped them going up.
Walsall at home in 2002, a win fir Walsall, including Guuuuuuussssss on loan from us!! The win for Walsall meant they stayed up, Dingles relegated. Celebration for all in the stadium.

Me, for starters. Absolutely hate them.

Wierdo.

UTB

Yes Mike Doyle took the penalty and rolled it straight to Peter Grummitt
I was on the kop that night with my girlfriend and have to say that for once Silent Blade is wrong. The ball didn't roll in, it trickled in. The most blatant effort not to score in the history of football. Win win night for me, pigs lost and a consolation shag later.
.

Why do you hate them?

At the end of the day some SC derbies we'll win, some we'll draw and some we will lose as with most other clubs we face, that is football.

United actually have the better record after 127 meetings with 45 victories, 40 draws and 42 Piggy victories plus we've scored more than them.

I hope that makes you feel at least a little better about them!

I'd be quite happy for us to be in the Premier League, them to be in the Northern Counties East League and never have a derby ever again.

I'd even rather not have them, than win them. In fact, i wish the other lot would just stop existing completely. The years when they were stuck in midtable division 3 and we pretty much forget they even existed, were the best years ever.

Port vale, the kozluk one.

Heath had to go.

oh, and not a suprise to some but every match the useless drunken twat robson was in charge.

I wasnt there that night. I had read about it in Flashing Blade who has got it wrong, not me! ;)

I'm well aware of United's better record in derbies - they have led the league series since 1951 I think.

I don't like them at all. The hassle of moved kick offs, having to often change normal match day routine because pubs are either restricted in their opening times or have arsehole bouncers on the door. The gutwrenching feeling that occurs when Parson Cross Rovers score against us. Then, all the bollocks afterwards - diversions down side streets because SYP can't run a bath or police effectively, all the posturing by both sets, what a load of crap.

Love your team first. Hate your rivals second.

But what do you do when you haven't got a team you can love?

You hate your rivals.

That was when they went down in 1970. City even missed a penalty on purpose. Fortunately, Ian Bowyer wasn't in on the fix and scored the winner after coming on as substitute - it finished 2-1 to City.

To make it even more fun, the game was played in torrential rain so all the Pig fans on the roofless kop got drenched.
My type of thinking , once it damages everything belonging to that cunt of a club .
