I was listening to Radio 5 Drive programme this evening and they had an email from someone who described himself as a 'Massive Newcastle fan', who wanted Leicester to beat them tonight as he wants Leicester to win the title.

My immediate thoughts were that he isn't a real supporter if he wants his team to lose, so another team can win the title.

Can you think of any circumstances in which you would want the Blades to lose a game?
Not sure I can.

Only when Weir was in charge towards the end. I didn't want us to loose, but I wasn't too bothered of the outcomes as he was walking a tight rope.

If us losing had no real negative effect on us but either sent the pigs down or stopped them going up - then I'd take it.

Does the so called Newcastle fan realise that if they do lose to Leicester it increases the chance of them getting relegated whilst improving their rivals Sunderland's chances of staying up?

I remember going to a Chelsea game in 1998 when Bolton had to win to stay up and the Chelsea fans were wanting Bolton to win at Everton's expense. Bolton were attacking constantly and Chelsea fans were booing their own team as they kept possession. Then Jody Morris scored and it was a muted celebration.

edit found the video. The commentator is fantastic!

I have never wanted us to loose, but if the situation was that pigs went down or not up then maybe.

So if they needed us to get something in the last game of the season in an otherwise meaningless game with Wolves, for them to go up...you'd want us to win??? I'd want us to put the youth team in, all turn up at the lane in Wolves shirts and lose 15-0!

I thought that the pigs would get a mention. But they are nothing to me. I don't care what they do.

Like others I can only imagine a situation where we had nowt on it and it got The pigs relegated or stopped them going up.

No.

Strange how Manchester United found it in their deepest souls to equalise with West Ham last night, because a (only available) trophy and the ignominy of another silverwareless season beckons.

Cunts.

Lets not forget our last Prem season when teams were putting weakened teams out and it hindered us, lets be careful what we wish for as these sorts of things have an habit of biting you right on the arse cheeks as we well know. :)

If it meant Adkins getting sacked, then yes. The only other scenario, like a few others have said would be if it either stopped the pigs being promoted, or helped them get relegated.

When Blackburn won the League at Anfield, a number of Liverpool fans were cheering on Rovers to prevent Manchester United winning another title. The last match of this season is Leicester v Chelsea, if Tottenham or Arsenal are still in with a shout of the title, many Chelsea fans will be cheering Leicester on.

Indeed if it meant nothing to our season but meant the pigs were relegated or didn't get promoted. Think of the bigger picture.

Circa 2001, some of our fans applauded Walsall's goal at BDBL as we were in mid-table but Walsall were in or near the relegation zone alongside Barnsley and Wendy. At half-time, Gary Sinclair thanked the Walsall fans for applauding our youth team. A bloke near me said "Well we cheered their goal so the least they can do is applaud our kids"

Yeah, pretty much the same as others, if it's the last game of the season with us having nothing to play for but the result could fuck the other lot over

I'd love us to make losing a game to screw them over so obvious as well. The more obvious the better. And then everyone just shrug and say "We tried our best but today we just weren't good enough.

Man City tried their best to lose a game against Wendy several decades ago (No money changed hands and there were no betting scandals obviously) because our ever so honourable neighbours wouldn't have been involved in anything like that at the time

But, try as Man City did to lose they still beat them

That was April 2002. People were willing Barnsley to go down, and United played their part by spending the whole of the second half pinging long balls towards 5 foot 7 Lewis Killeen.

I was livid because (a) I'd travelled from London to see that disgrace of a performance and if I'd have known they'd do that I wouldn't have bothered and (b) people have short memories. Walsall put us in the 4th Division - why should we help them?
