First choice out of what options? How do you know what was available to us? The only person who looks like they were/is still in the frame is Karl Robinson.

I'm not against having Clough, I think he will give us some stability at the very least. I've seen all the drama queens slating him already and calling it a bad appointment. We've had worse managers in recent times.

The only justification anyone can give for him being a poor manager is that he hasn't won anything "what's on his cv?" "what's he achieved?".....please kindly reel off the list of L1 managers that have a long list of achievements.....? Anyone?

If Clough was a bad manager their league position wouldn't have improved slightly with a shrinking budget and in a league that is now so fiercely competitive that you need a war chest to finish in the top half. He will be fine, so shurrup.

I haven't "given up" on the Blades but I'm disgusted by their decision to hire Marlon King and they won't receive a penny from me while he's at the Lane.

Given the prevailing circumstances, and for what it is worth, yes he would be my first choice. I can't think of any realistic, current alternative that I would prefer and I think he will do a very good job over the Prince's timescale, assuming he isn't hounded out after his first defeat.

When Nigel Clough went to Derby the club was a shambles and he has maintained the club's Championship status with a significantly reducing budget. He has brought a number of decent quality players through from the Academy into the Championship (not League 1) and I wish he had come to the Lane instead of Derby when he left Burton. Given our current status I think we should think ourselves lucky that he is available and prepared to take the job, which I think could be a great opportunity for him.

Ok he wouldn't win X Factor but quite frankly I couldn't care less, it's a complete irrelevance.

I've interpreted the question to be 'out of the realistic targets would Clough be your first choice'

My answer to that is No, I don't think he is a bad manager, I just don't think he has the attributes that this team needs right now, of course I've not followed Derby with a great degree of interest over his tenure there, but the reports from fans(both theirs and ours) and a few people I know within the game is that he is a bit of a stick in the mud.

I really believe that we need someone a bit more dynamic, a breath of fresh air to blow out the staleness Weir brought into the squad, and I'm not sure Clough is sufficiently different to Weir to bring that.

I'm no tactical genius, but I believe that to be successful in this division you need a high tempo of play, that doesn't mean hoofing into the opposition box, it means moving the ball around quickly and maintaining high energy levels, everything thing Weir didn't do, and I don't believe Clough will do either

Still if he gets it, I hope he makes me eat humble pie

I'm not sure, as others say it depends who is a realistic target for us.
I am less concerned over a "perceived style" than some senior posters on here, however:
What does slightly concern me is how the players would respond to him: e.g.
We've seen an improvement in attitude/ commitment under Morgs over what everyone (surely) witnessed with DW2.
NC doesn't seem to be an inspiring/motivational kind of leader. This is a bit of a guess I know, but it does come through in some of the Derby fans comments that I've seen.
I personally would be worried that he may be too similar to DW2 in terms of:
-Leadership/motivation.
-Tactical awareness.
-Stubbornness to adapt and change formations.
-Latterly Style (there I've said it).
A return to an obsession with a perceived style over substance and the importance of getting the most out of each player and how they function together as a cohesive unit.......

It's interesting that, after the dross of Weir, Wilson is so fondly remembered. I remember most home matches where the first half would pass without a single shot on goal and I definitely remember the complete capitulation at Wembley.

Back to the present, no I am totally underwhelmed by the prospect of Clough - especially if (as mentioned on here) he will cast Morgs aside and bring his entire backroom staff with him. Apart from the massive disruption, inevitable 'settling in' period and huge compo if it all goes tits up, I feel Morgs deserves more respect and should get a place based on his knowledge of the inner workings of the club.

Tonight/tomorrow we will probably hear that it is Clough. Me? I hoping NC's head will be turned by the Middlesbrough job and we get Holloway when Palace sack him.
