Would anyone else prefer Europa League football to Champions League?

(Really hope some pig fans see this thread title btw)

Its perfectly acceptable to consider this (as fans, not for the club or the players to not try as hard if we're on the verge of finishing top 4 or anything daft like that.) We're 2 points off 4th place, already played man city and liverpool away and mores the point, we're simply one of the best 7 teams in the country.

English teams in europe are generally much further up the pecking order than they were in the mid 90s, every Premier League club has a bigger income than pretty much every club outside the 20 biggest clubs in europe, although few of them have a top class manager of course.

Another 2 good transfer windows and this club would be in with a chance of getting to the later stages of the europa league and possibly win it. Make no mistake, the team we have right now would comfortably get through the EL group stage and Wolves are absolutely good enough to win it this season. I see no reason why we can't have an even better team than them, Man Utd and Arsenal this time next season.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth re: Champions league but realistically we'd be out at the group stage. Obviously if we did get to CL, drawn with one of the big names, finish 3rd and drop into the round of 32 in the EL then that'd be absolutely smashing cus we'd get our big nights against the giants and then go into a european competition that we'd have a chance of winning.

I'll be delighted if we get any kind of european football, we're already in dreamland, but this manager could absolutely win the europa league and I want to see the club I love finally get the silverware it deserves.

I know that things can change very quickly and certainly don't forget examples like Swansea in the 80s finishing 3rd in the top flight then going down the next season, Ipswich in the late nineties finishing 5th then going down etc. But I believe in the club and the manager and whatsmore, if the glory days don't happen with Chris Wilder, then when? Why not think big?

The team will carry on focussing on the next match, but as a fan, as far as I'm concerned our time has come.

Eyes on the prize.

In my line of work I have Thursday nights off and Sunday as my day off.

So the Europa League would have some advantages for me!

No. But I will greedily accept any European football at the Lane. Whatever the competition it is still a huge achievement for the club.

CL would just be insane though and has to the the aim now. Cmon Blades, it's on.

either - would love to see/hear the words of Garth, Danny and a few others.

I know it's really boring for some - but as CW keeps saying - we're just collecting points and we'll see where it takes us.

I'm more than happy if we qualified for the Europa league. Its a proper European trophy with some proper teams in.
European football.... Just repeat it to yourself.
Think of the teams you could meet.
From where we were 5 years ago to where we are now, with this thread even being posted.
Fucking hell, Its never been better.

Got to go for CL. Its beyond comprehension if we do it, the type of player we would attract, and the position the club would be in to be able to build and grow would put us literally a decade ahead of where we were 2 years ago

Get champions league have an away day at barca and finish 3rd in the group then win the europa simple

're Champions League - realistically we'd be out at the group stage'.

Were we being realistic when we thought we'd never escape the 'pub league'?

Were we being realistic when our neighbours said we'd never survive in the Championship and we longed for several years of consolidation?

Were we being realistic when every pundit had us down for Premier league relegation certainties and we just wanted to finish 4th from bottom?

Let's stop this putting ourselves down and have some real trust and belief in what Chris Wilder is doing.

If we make the Champions League then we're not there just to make up the numbers.

We'll rip the CL a new un when we get there soon.

It's most of our 'Football Manager' sessions from the past coming to reality....spoiler alert, it almost gets boring how many trophies, and how much success the Blades have 😉😁 nicer problems

The fact that Wilder, his coaching staff and our players are particularly humble and don’t get carried away is the basis for the success that allows some of our fans to be a bit wild with their aspirations.

Don't we win everything for a thousand years or is that an urban myth?
And now a song, 'Bladesmen, Bladesmen uber alles'

Although it wouldn’t be difficult would love to progress further than the Pigs rather pathetic effort in Europe

😁 that's the one, I quit after 20 years, left Basham in as player manager 😁

If I get to pick then it's Champions League. It'd mean we'd finished higher in the league, it'd mean we wouldn't have to hear the crap about how Europa isn't really very good, and it would make us hugely attractive to players in the Summer.

Football wise I take your point. Financially though CL would catapult us into a different stratosphere over night and there’s a chance we’d drag the whole city with us if the council were wise enough to get their heads out there arse (wishful thinking). Europa League would be nice for a season, but the next year it would be back to the grind. CL would improve the stature of the club.
