Starting a series of threads to celebrate promotion.

This one is dedicated to some of our famous goalkeepers... for all the wrong reasons.

Simon Moore misses out for being actually decent.

Simmo was infuriating and cost us promotion.

Simmo for the way he ran off the pitch at Orient after another clanger, complete lack of bottle.

Long by a country mile. Haunts my nightmares.

Can't vote on this, Simmo made the best save I have ever seen at Newcastle away when we lost 2-1.

Simmo was a disaster but at times at least looked like a keeper. Long looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights most of the time. Both dreadful though.

Never got the hate for Howard I thought he was decent, not in the same class as Moore but I saw a lot worse in League one.

To be fair, Simon Moore might've also featured on this list, if he'd had to play behind some of the midfields and back fours we've turned out in the last five years

Didn't Long break some sort of clean sheet record while playing for us in league 1? I'm sure I've seen it mentioned on here before

Not sure. If he did it will have been down to the defence.

You can't just say that to be fair.

I think Long has gone downhill but it's due to wrecked confidence. He's not an awful keeper.

Don't think Long was anywhere near as bad as Simmo. Long is a good shotstopper for me, just doesn't command his area AND suffered a ridiculously inept defence. That poor defence also made it difficult for Long TO command his area.

I dont mind these, but dont take them seriously there partly light hearted anyway

But i cant vote in this because all 3 had games were i wanted to ripped there head off but there was also many games where they saved us big time

All opinions mate, I never rated him even when more fans were praising him. Decent shot stopper but his lack of communication was outrageous.

I counted at least 11 keeping errors he made when we got relegated.

So detailing the subsequent promotion was some effort!

I agree completely with that and Long was unlucky that he generally played behind worst defenders. One of his problems was his youth and lack of verbal command of the muppets in front of him. Then when the inevitable goal was conceded, 'legend' Collins would have a pop at him.

I really thought Howard was the one and he started very well but suffered a niggling injury (thigh/back?) that really affected him. The later Howard was a liability as pointed out above, especially with long shots. Maybe undiagnosed short sightedness?

Moore is not perfect but has the confidence to get over the odd error. He is always bawling at the defence and was a massive part of our early season turnaround and in September/October, was probably a more important player than Fleck, Coutts or Billy.

The only reason he wasn't closer to being POTS, is he had bugger all to do in the last few months.
