Can you think of a worse ever miss by a Blade than Brandy's today? (Taylor missed an easy sitter too). I think it was a worse miss than Ian Bryson's in the 2-1 defeat at Chesterfield in March 1989. Not only Brandy placed the ball wrong, he had plenty of time and space to trap the ball and place the ball gently into the net

I swear Steve Foley ballooned one over the bar that had already crossed the line in front of the kop.

:-D

That Deane effort against Brighton in the titanic 5-4 win was pretty special.

Remember that too. I think it was just before Bryson's penalty to make it 4-4. Deane flicked a long ball over the keeper and volleyed the ball over the empty net at the Kop End

ashley ward for Blackburn in front of the kop

Steve Faulkner playing for United res against Derby County res in the 1970's.

United were attacking the kop end when the ball came out of the penalty area through a crowd of players to Faulkner who was about 30-35 yards out. He hit it first time and it went like a rocket straight towards goal - although I can't remember if it was a toe-ender or a roll-down-leg. The Derby keeper was rooted to the spot as it pinged the top of the crossbar and flew into an empty kop, accompanied by the groans and jeers of all around in the John Street Terrace. In the end we only won the game 2-0 and, as it was goal average in those days instead of difference, it meant that if the big hairy lummox had put that in and then gone on to score another 5 goals during the remainder of his games in the reserves, we would have leap-frogged Newcastle to finish that season in 6th place in the Central League instead of a lowly 7th.

As an impressionable youngster, that miss and those statistics were ingrained on my mind for many a year and I think it's that reason why I've always blamed the frizzy haired buffoon for United's subsequent demise on the world football stage. Thanks Steve....

Be careful Jon Bon, his sprog will be on here and call us names again for suggesting her daddy wasn't the new Pele.

Simon Stainrods v Luton , skins keeper turns ball into empty net ,wheels away to celabrate his hatrick oh dear ball is stuck in mud on goal line , Givens miss from penalty spot also .

Brsndy's miss - jeez just saw it on iPlayer. Unfucking-believable, especially followed by the stupid lunge which cost us the fast lad for three straught games. Indisciplined little tit

I always thought Jagielka should have scored after David Seaman made THAT save, the ball fell to Jagielka only for him to blast it over.

Simonsen
Givens

If you are thinking of the most costly sitters

Thats harsh on Simonsen IMO.

Bear in mind that Huddersfield missed their first 3 pens. Had Lowton or Taylor scored theirs (or indeed Williamson), Porter would have been able to put us up with his, as it was he could only bring us level.

Porters vs County want the best mind, was it.

It wasn't a great penalty (under statement!), but Givens didn't miss. It was saved.

Tonge's miss against Arsenal early on in the FA Cup tie replay in early 2005 was pretty good.

Paul Williams in the play offs against Bristol City. I can't remember the full details but the fact that it still resonates so many years later suggests it was a good 'un. From what I remember, he missed from about a yard but I can't remember if he put it wide, over, the keeper saved it or he missed the ball altogether:confused:

Webber against Wigan? Ok it hit the post but he should have been following it in.
