Blackie 1st part of the jigsaw.........but lots of work needed this summer.
The clearout has to happen and the squad needs some additional QUALITY.
Great day out ...........i'm sure the Blades there today will agree

'The' clearout?

Who would you let go, are you talking wholesale changes to the entire squad and building around one or two players, or you talking about keeping a core of the team and work around that? Who would you like to bring in? Any reserve/academy players worth blooding into the squad for next season?

Keep.... BT, Killa, Sharpe, Paddy.

Get Rid...Horsfield, Lucketti, Gillespie, Seck, Speed, Ehiogu, Hendrie, Bennet, Naysmith, Montgomery, Gerrard.

The rest... ???

To be honest, I think I would go with most of that list, the main exception being Speed. If the reports are correct and he goes to a player/coach role his experience must be useful on the training ground, especially if some raw talent is blooded in. Both reserve keepers? I'm sure Bennett can still do us a job in this division, what ever happened to the Trinidad keeper we were looking at?

I'd keep Keef, Naysmith, Speed, Monty and Bennett out of the "get rid" list to be honest. All are good players who are either in the 1st team or good back ups.

Tha Championship has been shit this season................. next season i don't think so........... and if Mccabe don't back Blackie and bring some QUALITY in the Blades will struggle again.

Too much 'deadwood' at BDTBL not enough QUALITY and that was shown today.

Can't say anything as I couldn't make it to the game. However, I thought the fact Southampton were playing for their Championship survival is one of the main reasons for the result today, n'est pas?

Wonder if any offers will be made for the loan players we have taken on, again will it be worth it or will they become 'Deadwood'?

Got deadwood? try viagra :D:D:D

And we've had three league defeats in the time Blackie's been here. A topsy-turvy one today, a reverse at Preston when going hell for leather, and a craven display v Charlton which was too bad for words.

I do think there are players who are surplus to requirements, and many you mention are probably on my list too, but I'd hang fire and see what the new regime could find about them to help us. King Kev II has got a bit of a tune out of this fiddle, no matter how Sornob ruined it. Alan Quinn? Leigh Bromby? Still decent players who could have helped us, but their departures and the reasons for them are quite well known.

Allegedly.

Sornob's disastrous reign is the single reason why we weren't in the play-offs, at least, and I defy anyone to tell me otherwise.

You may be reight.............but don't let that be an excuse not to clearout the 'deadwood' and bring in QUALITY remember every season that passes will make it harder for the Blades to achieve, Blackie has done wonders since his arrival the players are motivated but QUALITY needs to be added to the squad if not even with Blackie's motivation of the players a mid table finish next season is 'on the cards'. Just my opinion of course.

Look at West Brom - quality in every position, but by no means quality in depth. If we could address the lack of quality in depth, bringing in new players and 'blooding in' young players we then have cover in different areas.

I would like to see us keep Bennet, Monty and Naysmith from your list Beighton but others like Keef just dont cut it for me. Speed is a must-have, his experience and ability helps and also clearly has an affect on the other players. To me it appears that when he plays well, Tongue and Squinny also play better. An experienced head gives them somebody to learn from and if we let him go it will be a massive mistake.

I would like to see another quality midfielder come in as well as signing Cotteril permenantly (anything up to 1.5 million). I do see a need for another CB to contend with Morgs and offer back-up which has been missing of late. If we can hold on to Stead, Hulse, Beattie, Webber and Sharp we will be lucky. I do think we would be lucky (can imagine Warnock sniffing around Webber) but if 1 had to go would probably be Hulse - if only to save his own career

I cant agree with this list at all.

Speed-Fantastic, brings that cool head to our team, and has already got his contract in place and agreed coaching duties.

Lucketti-going Im sure, we would have sold him to Southampton this week

Gillespie-had a poor season, could be a contender to go.
Seck?
Ehiogu-Got a contract for next season I am sure he will be here as cover.
Hendire-complete waste of money, got to go.
Bennett-Probably staying
Naysmith-Staying, did you not notice how improved he has been under Blackwell
Monty-definitly a key player nextr time around and I am certain willl be here
Gerrard Dont know, I guess not

But then again what do I know?

Dingledog my list ain't 'written in stone' when i get time i'll have another look through....my main point is without QUALITY payers arriving at BDTBL in the summer the Blades will miss out next season. Blackies motovation alone won't get the Blades promoted McCabe has to back him with ££££'s.

The Championship won't be so easy next season.

For me, we need to get rid of:

Shelton - Everyone knows my thoughts of this guy
Webber - Quality player for me, but he just can't get fit
Hendrie - Heart wasn't in it, been very poor
Tonge - If yesterday's reports of Blackburn's bid were true I'll take him myself
Gillespie - Not up to it anymore unfortunately
Lucketti - Decent but we need younger and better
Horsfield - Doesn't need justifying
Ehiogu - Same as Lucketti
Seck - Same as Horsfield

Maybe's:

Hulse - Might surprise a few, but all depends on his pre-season for me. Was rushed back and just hasn't been the same.

Law - Seems ok, but with how poor our midfield has been this season, surely he would have had a chance if he was up to it?

Must bring in:

Cotterill - Revelation on the right and helped Beattie majorly with his crossing.

Halls - Arguably been better than Geary lately, seems a solid defender and doesn't really do anything wrong.

We also need 2 central midfielders, a left winger. A couple of centre halves, and a pacey striker. With that, I think we'd be on our way but I'm sure some will disagree.

Get rid of

Horsfield
Lucketti
Seck
Hendrie
Montgomery
Gerrard
Keef
Ehiogu

All can be replaced with better players.

Get rid of bennett?? haha, what are you on? hes been ace in goal when hes had to come in. Safe hands and can be relied on.

Who would you get rid of ?
Do you agree a clearout is needed ?
Lets hear it........................

certainly not both reserve keepers when bennett is a great back up.

shelton
webber
The Horse
Lucketti
Seck
Hendrie
Keef
UGO

then bring in a quality center mid or 2 and a center half to partner killa

Well whatever things need doing sooner rather than later.
Retaining BT,Killa,Sharpe and Paddy at all costs, the rest for me can go, all of them can be replaced with better players.

SUFC should release a press statement announcing key players will not be leaving BDTBL.......... on the contrary QUALITY players will be added to the squad.

how much money do you think we have.

As far as I'm aware both Blackwell and McCabe have already said improvement in playing staff will take place.

Although i'm sure this will not be good enough for some.

;)

I'm not sure what you mean ?
If you mean how much money has McCabe made available to Blackie to strengthen the squad i've no idea.

I am concerned that if the squad isn't strengthened in the summer the Blades will struggle next season........ lack of real investment in QUALITY players would be a shame.........time will tell but i've got a bad feeling about it.

Would you agree with me that the squad needs to be strengthened ? and that the Championship will be a much tougher league next season ?

We'll know soon.......................a disgrace if it don't happen though.

I don't think anyone would say anything otherwise including the manager and chairman.

:)

Forgive me for perhaps coming across negative its not intended.......... but i've been here before wi the Blades.

We'll see cum start of next season.

You've just said keep 4 players but the rest can go. Yes, we will get money for those players but not many of them will bring much. So how do expect to get quality players? You can't just get them all at once.

Not disputing that mate, but what I am saying is that had we had a competent manager for the first two-thirds of the season, several players who are possibly seen as surplus to requirements now wouldn't be seen as such.

There are two players who left who I still think were more than good enough for us.

To go back to your list Beighton Blade, as you kindly gave one, I'll give my thoughts too.

Horsfield - Couldn't agree more.

Lucketti - One last season as cover maybe, but could well be one to get rid of. Probably vying with Ehiogu as to which one goes, if indeed it is only one.

Gillespie - I know I keep banging on about this,, but I still think he has a role to play, so long as we play him for what he is. An out and out winger. Sornob played him inside and narrowed the team to such an extent that we couldn't exploit his talent. The one time he did? We butchered Ipswich 3-1 (one disallowed, and he scored). Worth another yer, wages permitting.

Seck - Depending on the terms of his long term loan (and if we could loan him out again), maybe one to keep as a squad player. If he hasn't improved since we got him, then aye, get rid.

Speed - Has been an important part of steadying the midfield. In fact, he probably created it as we barely had one beforehand. Worth keeping for his experience, or as player/coach, assuming he wants his badges.

Ehiogu - Has played well in his few appearances, but it's between him and Lucky for the push.

Hendrie - Go. Now. Please. I won't ask nicely again.

Bennett & Gerrard - We need cover as we don't have Jags for emergencies during match play*, and Blackie's not going to re-register like he did the other year :D. I don't think we need three experienced keepers though. How's Jamie Annerson been doing on loan?

Naysmith - Wasn't convinced when he turned up, and was dreadful under Sornob, but has improved (or more likely been played properly) under King Kev II. I just wonder if he's on Premiership wages though, and may be part of the wages cull.

Montgomery - Still vital in this division for me, when his foot is right. I just wish he could pass a ball, but he'd have to learn to pass water first. Blood, guts and thunder, and possibly the beating heart of the midfield when he's back. We need to have the brain to go alongside him though. Every side needs a stopper, and he's ours.

*I don't think I could live through another farce like Roger Nilsen being in the net v Norwich one Sunday afternoon about 12 years ago. I thought someone had slipped me LSD.
