I like the perversity, in view of Couttsy, Brooksy, Hodgy, etc., of getting a player called Duffy and calling him 'Duffs'.

A few different ones from different eras come to mind. Fatty Foulkes is self explanatory, if a little blunt. 'Nudger' Needham, one of our all-time greats, is a good one, though I am not sure how he got the name. 'Doc' Pace was distinctive, and came from his role in the army. 'Budgie' Burridge was one who never shut up (nowadays he would surely be tweeting all the time). I'm off now...
