How many players and in which positions do we need and how many we’ll get , discus
I think we need 2/3 up front.
1 in midfield preferably out wide
1 center halve
1 left back / wing back

Goalkeeper
Centre back - who can play CB or LCB
Left wing back
Wide midfielder - who can play wing back
Attacking midfielder - who can play wide, central and maybe up front
Striker - with physical presence
Striker

So 7 ideally. Including some pace.

We need a minimum of five but it would need to be five good enough to improve the squad not prospects or cover men like last January though.

The problem is that’s going to cost.

Goalkeeper
New defender for the centre of the back three.Must be able to read the game well and be good in the air.
Left Wing back to compete with Stevens
Somebody who can play wide in a front three, and up front in a front two.Must be quick!
Somebody who can play up front on there own or as part of a front two.A championship Drogba basically. If that player's unobtainable, at the very least a target man.
That's five players. If you go for a more specialists wide player and and an out and out pacy striker we'd need six or seven in my view.

A big dominant aggressive, mouth piece centre half captain, would be at the very top of my wish list. For me we've gone soft again, gifting too many easy goals, while capitulating late on in games, we're also never looking like scoring from corners again (a big dominant centre half would help in this direction). A pacy striker would also be up there for me, as would a tricky winger, I know Wilder doesn't play them from the start but someone like that would be good from the bench as a plan B (CW did tend to have this type of player as a sub option in the Champion season). I think we could also do with an anchor/mouth piece in midfield, who'll be aggressive and get a foot in, Leonard might be able to do this role and it's perhaps not the type of player Wilder would usually play as he'll probably go Coutts-Fleck-Duffy but I thought it was part of the problem in the second half of last season, with conceding soft goals and also the worldies (when the ball's dropping on the edge of our box that's were I'd expect a good defensive midfield player to be closing down, too many oppo players in that situation were getting all the time in the world to line up there shots).

You missed off 1 GOAL KEEPER.

My wish list-

Blackman
Jack Robinson
Egan or Batth
Luke Freeman
Oliver Norwood
Tammy Abraham loan.
An other striker maybe Hugill loan.

Automatic challengers.

Option 1 - We actually have some money

1 X GK
1 X LWB
2 X CB
1 X AM
2 X CF

Option 2 - We haven't

1 x LWB
1 X CB
2 x CF

We do need a goalkeeper but can we afford one as well as everywhere else we need players, getting a GK would mean sacrificing quality in our other signings, we could sign a full new squad with our money if we went to L2, what we need is a few quality players to make a difference. Maybe get Blackman on loan again if possible, and sign him next season when we're in the prem!

But I think:
2 strikers (a strong one and one with pace)
1 CB
1 left wingback

That would be 4 players, spending the majority on strikers, if we end up selling brooks then get another attacking midfielder.

I think we have enough in midfield especially with coutts coming back.

Good list but realistically Abraham will go out on loan to a PL club.

Kyle Bartley anyone? Read Swansea want to sell and Leeds are back in for him. I’d have him back here in a heartbeat, was quality for Leeds during his season there.

How much money would we need to buy that many players that are quality enough to make a big difference though? I would go with your option 2 + a GK if we can afford

If we can use the loan market well, then it might be doable. I'd rather waste £1 million on a quality loanee for a season than buy someone who is cheap and not really an improvement. At least we're not saddled with them.

I'd be looking to loan:

1 x GK
1 x CB
1 a CF

It depends on who we can sign permanently. For instance, if we can't bring someone better than Stevens in permanently, then loaning a young premiership LWB would be a good solution. We can field 5 loan players at any time. We need to be careful to balance that with bringing in players who will improve us for seasons to come.

We should be signing players who will get better and who have a resale value. We should not be signing older players and then giving them contracts which take them to the end of their career, if we can avoid it.

First choice GK

First choice LWB to compete with Stevens

First choice CB to compete with Stearman

LCB incase JoC gets injured

2 strikers one with pace one who’s a target.

Could always throw in an attacking midfielder

Quality not quantity. Four ideally.

Centre back
Left wing back
Forward x 2

Spend a bit extra on fewer and get the quality we need. If there is anything left for an additional goalkeeper even better. If not, go with Moore and the young lad.

I would agree with loaning a GK (Hopefully Blackman) but I think relying too much on loanees (is that a word) would be a mistake since when they left us next season it could change the whole dynamic of how the squad fits together, we then would be looking for signings to replace players we never had.

+1 to that, with the exception of players like Donaldson who was dirt cheap, if we get someone 30 odd and sell them on to L1 it could work out like a more economical loan, as long as we don't give them a 12 year contract and massive wages, its worthless buying a player for what they used to be.

All in all though I would say definitely go for quality over quantity, our squad is already good and you could say many of them are unproven L1 players, but I would say that after last season everyone in that first team is now a proven championship player, all we need is a bit of quality and were sorted.

Anyone who wasn’t impressed with Blackman needs to give their head a wobble. Still improving and was such a calm presence at the back. I would bet he had a high success rate atclaiming crosses from set plays which is a very desirable trait!

Get him back as a must.

Then a centre half, plus at least two strikers. At least one who has electric pace and power.
If we got those and kept what we had last season then we will challenge.

At least 2 new strikers under the age of 30. Everything else is a backseat priority, although Blackman back would be good

1xgk
1xcb
1xlb
1x winger with genuine pace.
2x striker under 30

Goalkeeper NEW SIGNING, Moore, Eastwood

Left Back Wing Back NEW SIGNING, Stevens
Right Wing Back Baldock, Freeman

Right Centre Back Basham, Leonard
Left Centre Back O'Connell, Lafferty
Centre back NEW SIGNING, Stearman, Wright

Central Midfield, Coutts, Fleck, Evans, Lundstram

Advanced/Player makers Duffy, Brooks, Holmes

Strikers
NEW SIGNING, Clarke, Sharp, Evans

This gives us a squad of 25 which is very trim. adding only 4 means this "improved budget" goes further.

Id look at Rhian Brewster at Liverpool as a loan signing, Liverpool will be very keen to move him out this summer for a year, and he certainly has the potential to be this season Tammy Abraham.

We need another keeper but not Loris karius!!!. I think Liverpool might be getting rid?.
Hopefully we can get Blackman back at bdtbl along with a couple of strikers!.

Was going to post just the same but got to feel for him, not deliberate but what a dreadful couple of mistakes.

In my opinion a GK should be first on the list.
We need strikers, we need a CB, we need a LWB, but if there's nobody in the net, were fucked.
Far to many goals from outside the box have been conceded over the last season.

Blackman first priority. Ideally permanent if he fits within CW's budget, but if not then another full season loan would be fine.

A LWB would be good, as well as some quality cover in central defence.

Up front is where we really need to spend the money. I love Billy and Leon dearly, but in my ideal world we'll kick off in August with a completely new forward line, ideally one big, strong target man type player, and a young, hungry, pacy smaller type to go alongside him.

1 keeper ideally Blackman

1 left wing back

1 attacking midfielder/ wide midfielder

2 strikers good enough to seriously challenge Sharp and Clarke

Another centre half miggm also be useful but I'm not convinced that any of the current 3 deserve to be dropped

I'm hoping for a great summer holiday and the fixture planners doing a bit better than last year in organising the game for my in season holidays.
