According to Radio Sheffield this morning, Lee Williamson suffered complications during his latest surgery on his back and ended up on life-support for a couple of days.

That was apparently three weeks ago and he's out of hospital now but it's testament to the lad's poor luck.

Get well soon Willo!

Just had the SUFC text! The text said that the complications could have proved fatal!

Does anyone know what the surgery was for? Was it his back?

Glad he's out of the woods now and hopefully he'll make a full and proper recovery to be putting the ball in the back of the net again like he did against the 3rd Division Oinkers

Brings a bit of perspective. Get well soon Lee.

Perhaps this adds to why Blackie, Birch et al were very very quiet a couple of weeks ago as well

That's terrible! Glad he's recovered though.

There's an OS story here: Lee avoids tragedy

Kevin Blackwell has revealed that midfielder Lee Williamson almost fell victim to tragedy earlier this summer.

The midfielder, signed from Watford a year ago, suffered a setback during surgery that could have proved fatal.

Blackwell said: "Lee has had a terrible summer so far. He had a bulging disc in his back, the same as he had just after he came which resulted in him struggling to regain fitness.

"It was a problem to him late on last season and at times he was playing in pain because we were short of bodies, so we decided to whip him out, move quickly and get the job done.

"But when he had the operation in London, complications set in which led to him being on a life-support machine for three days.

"It came out of the blue, infection set in and he is lucky to be alive, but his wife, Gemma, has been a tower of strength and we have kept in touch with her.

"He is now recovering and we will have to wait for the specialists' assessment to see if those complications will affect his recovery."

We are sure that all Blades fans will join the Club in wishing Lee a full and speedy recovery.

Best wishes to Lee and his family

That's very bad.

Good luck to the lad and hope all is well and gets back asap.

Get well soon.

Shocking news, delighted to hear it was 3 weeks ago and this isn't ongoing and whilst his health is more important than anything, it will be another kick in the teeth for him, blackwell and the fans that he won't be fit for the start of the season.

I'm so glad he's on the road to recovery.
Best wishes to Willo and all his family.

As a fellow sufferer of this condition my thoughts and best wishes go to Willo and all his family and friends.
Good luck Lee and a speedy recovery.

A relative of mine has this problem and has had 2 of these operations. Unfortunately for Williamson (and, by extension, United), as I understand it this is something that's likely to keep recurring, because the problem isn't just with a particular disc but with the spine generally, and the discs degenerate one at a time.
