Will we give it a go ?

Wilder justified quite a few transfers based on that premise. Some were successful, others not so much. Freeman, Lowe, Bogle, McBurnie, Burke etc. He even bought a winger when we didn’t play wingers, but I’ve forgotten his name.
Hi Stegosaurus here,

Hardly any of Wilder's signings were successful in the Prem.
Freeman -- I actually rated, but Wilder barely played him
Callum Robinson - not suited for our team
Ravel Morrison - Waste of a contract
Lys Mousset -- the poorest, laziest excuse for a foortballer I have ever seen
Osborn - an average Championship player
McBurnie -- worth nowhere near what we played
Verrips -- wasn't his nickname Cinderella or something insulting because he was afraid of the ball?
Rodwell - waste of a contract
Robinson (Jack) - shit
Berge -- a decent player, not worth what we paid.
League 1 Wes -- League 1 standard
Ramsdale -- He was shit for us, but we made a tidy profit on him so .... result.
Lowe - shit
Bogle - showed glimpses of being decent
Burke - lol
Brewster -- Klop had Wilder's kegs down with that one.

I'd say the squad is better equiped this time around compared to the relegation, fitness permitting.

Players of the ilk of Burke, Bryan etc wouldn't have gotten into this season's squad never mind next season's.

We finished that season with some very sorry line-ups.

We were also without Berge and had to rely (we didn't but management chose to) on Lundstram phoning it in each week without any repercussions.

We also had very little in the way of players who could run with the ball.

Players like Robinson have improved through experience so even if he is not a starter, the drop off should not be so great if the odd first pick is unavailable.

It will largely be determined by how the obvious gaps are filled.

At minimum the midfield needs to at least reach levels of effectiveness as it did with Berge, Doyle and McAtee.

Defensively we need Norrington-Davies back so we are not reliant on Lowe, who, despite back to back promotions, was clearly being targeted as a weakness by opposition teams.

I'd rather we don't overcommit though and end up with future payments we simply cannot service which seems to be what happened this time around.

We have a lot of young players simmering beneath the surface. It would be an added bonus if one or two like say Osula and Arblaster bad break out seasons to lay foundations for the future.

I think some of those players were bought on a different basis, at different times? I disagree with your assessment of quite a few players too.
Opinions eh! Even you are allowed one. ;)

dear god , pass the tablets

compare our defeatist diatribe to what owls outlook , theyve got to beat Barnsley yet but they are convinced they are 12 months in the prem

we are there and some can't wait to start moaning again
I give up its a tidal wave of depressing doom and gloom mongers in here

look , we could spend 150 m and go down
we could spend not a penny and stay up

no one knows , but have the decency to have a bit of pride in getting automatically promoted with 91 points wirh what your now calling inadequates
we beat spurs and did better v man city than real madrid did

we arent useless
with full houses we are more likely to be like our first season back ,,,which will do me
can we get 39/ 42 points , of course we can

I think you are reading the room wrong.

Almost everyone in here recognises how much of a godsend getting back into the prem is.

However everyone also realises that the long term future financially is more important than gambling our money trying to give it a go.

we have no idea whos taking over yet , might actually get someone with real money , but it seems most are expecting someone with only a tenner more than princey, some cant even be optimistic about anything

the room is way too negative
personally dont give a shit about the boardroom shenanigans

we got runners up with what we had , despite a swaithe of long term injuries and not allowed to bring in reinforcements many insisted we needed

but as it turned out we were better than we thought

not that it seems many blades think so

we have good young players and a good smattering of experienced internationals
but some talk like we Barnstoneworth Umited not the mighty blades

Again i don't think it's "urgh fucking shit Blades they're going to go down 100%"

It's more a "If we go down then c'est la vie, as long as our finances are sorted "

our finances should be sorted ok , we have no massive spending plans at most our wage bill looks like being 50 to 60m tops , we will be getting 30k gates income and all the corporate that we only got for 15 games in 2 seasons that we missed out on last time and vastly increased shop sales and sponsorship

thats what hurt us , we didnt get anywhere near what we planned for

but unless theres another pandemic the futures bright

lets target staying up on its own not accept its likely we go down
how many thought brighton would qualify for europe, they spent 50m on players last season

the west brom norwich yo yo plan didnt work this season Burnley had kept a good squad together

I'm sure if Chelsea bought one of our defenders for 56 million, we'd be able to spend 50 million on players as well!

just saying if you can do europe on 50m surely you can stay up with say 20m

Brighton have made money in the transfer market this season. If we're spending 20 million, rather than receiving 30 million like they did, then the Champions League is nailed on

like the logic , plus we only lost 0-3 to city which makes us a bit better than real madrid

Every team in the Premiership right now is better than us. I wouldn’t fancy ours chances against any of them especially away.

I do however believe we’ll be smart in the market like we were this season, Hecky has a persuasive way of convincing players to join us. We need to use the free & loan market to our benefit
The Mighty Spurs weren't 😊👍
