Jesus Christ - the structure was to surrender ALL possession, ALL possibility of scoring and hope for the best.

Show me a team that gets a result having 20% of the possession. We’d have the ball for 18 minutes to Southampton’s 72. We don’t score at the best of times.


It’s not even like keeping it compact is working. We’re not keeping ANY clean sheets. if that’s our plan we are beaten before we even kick off.

Been thinking about this, and some of the material posted on well renowned and well informed sources such as Wilder's Army Not For Snowflakes, and it appears the knives are well and truly out for Wilder, to the extent that some clearly would love to see us get hammered just so they can put forward their own agenda of hammering Wilder and the players.

I really feel for Wilder and the players at this moment in time. He hasn't become a bad manager overnight and these haven't become bad players overnight either.

We are struggling more than most without the fans in. We have struggled missing key players through injury and Henderson having gone back to Manchester United

Our biggest summer signing is a talented young player with bags of ability and potential but needs time to grow and develop, which we haven't got.

I can't even remember an injury effecting us as badly as we are missing JOC. He was the fulcrum and heartbeat of the team, executed his role to perfection and didn't look out of place in the PL. He is very, very hard to replace.

After everything Wilder has done for us since 2016, we deserve to back him, allow him to make his own decisions and arrest the slide, and if we go down, we go down with him as we will come back up with him.

My sentiments exactly. I could go no further.

This was always my main concern as I am not calling for his replacement as I see no point in it. Nobody can get this team out of this position.

However, he has to show some adaptation beyond his own stubbornness but instead it looks like he's now trapped in a Berlin Bunker of his own devising, possibly being reassured by a diminshing number of assorted, obsequious loyalists.

There appears no end to this hell. Nothing lasts forever though.
 
He sounds desperate for answers and he hasn't got any to improve the form. He knows why we're playing bad but doesn't know how to change it. Sure mistakes give up goals but how come when the opposition makes mistakes we don't punish them with goals. BACK TO BASICS CHRIS....LEARN TO PASS, FIND SPACE AND SHOOT ON TARGET. RUN YOUR F'IN ARSES OFF.
 
So he's had the owners vote of confidence eh! He will be gone by Christmas.

O'Connell may have been very difficult to replace, but that's no reason not even to seriously attempt to do so.

O'Connell was ruled out for the season the day before the transfer window slammed shut. I'm sure CW would have appreciated the hindsight of what would happen, and if he had known he would have strengthened in that position
 
Poor old Chris looks like he’s just eaten something nasty.
I’m starting to feel sorry for him and I never thought that would happen.
All I want for Christmas is to see a smile back on Chris Wilder’s face.

I’ve said before - honestly I don’t care if we go down. Was a possibility anyway given the league and our injuries.

It’s not binary though. There must be some middle ground between finishing 9th and a 1/3 of a season gone and having accumulated 1 point.

I’m not asking for superman, but I don’t think hoping to actually make an attempt to stay up is suddenly impossible. The players have proved they are better than this for heavens sake. We don’t look like even getting a point anymore.


Every other side in premier league history is capable of picking up points - why is it beyond us all of a sudden?

winning that game never looked likely when we can’t touch the ball. I don’t recognise the side that attacked the division last year. No one is playing about a 5 out of 10.
 
I did like the coda of blaming 3 players who weren't on the pitch today for conceding that goal against Wolves. I mean, we were comprehensively outplayed by Wolves, mistakes or no mistakes. Wolves took their foot off the gas. They would have scored more if they'd wanted to. It's as though the plan is to get a 0-0 draw every game but this plan is thwarted by mistakes. Similar with the comment about the first 35 minutes. Apparently, the aim is to play like that for 90 minutes. What a scary thought.
 
I used to love Wilder's interviews when we lost games. You knew you were going to get a robust response, honest assessment etc. I am not saying he is being dishonest after Southampton but to think we were 'solid' for the first half an hour is a load of rubbish. It was only a matter of time before they scored. That's not being solid.

Yes, confidence is a major issue, but quicker play/thinking (which CW alluded to in the same interview) also comes from having ability and quality. Wider did not sign anyone with PL ability or quality in the window.

He genuinely sounds a little bit blinkered to things right now. Sad to see/hear.

He is bullshitting the fans and its borderline the sort of crap we got from previous managers.

We will know he has fully gone once he starts talking about geese.
