Unbelievably January is just two months away, and Chris will inevitably want to get some players in.
After the disaster of this summer window I dont expect us to have much to spend, but whos worth going after?
Ivanovic at Millwall is the dream striker target for me
And Louza at Watford.
Centre Back needs to ideally be left footed, wouldn't put it past CW trying to bring Jack Robinson back.....

He ain't gonna bring back Robinson.

There will be quite a bit of ins and outs I reckon.

Whilever the recruitment board consists of Wilder, Hoyland and Bettis I wouldn’t hold out any hope of massively improving the team in Jan. they managed to complete derail our season last time.

We’ll move a few out early doors, spend the whole window fucking about and then signed a couple that can’t get games for anyone else just before the window shuts.

I reckon 3 loans sent back, and 3 loans brought in, highly doubt lots of money will be spent unless Gus goes.
Maybe Tom Cannon to stoke..

Unfortunately a rerun of a Cooper, Campbell, Burrows, Shacks, McCallum, Moore, JRS, Souttar, Gilchrist esque window - massively improving our team/squad on the relative cheap is unlikely as we bet the farm on a ton of crap in the summer. It's also much harder to recruit fit, quality players in January. Even if you get good ability for the level they're unlikely to be up to speed (BBD, Holding,). If you get a good loan and they do well they're unlikely to be your player next season anyway. It's hard to be enthused.

What should be the criteria?:

Quality permanent players that are playing regularly with the quality to improve us that fit into a post parachute payment financial reality.

Realism/reality:

Our squad is that bad/unfit/injury prone that despite not being in a position to threaten even the play off places we'll likely sign a higher 'proven' calibre on loan to try and give a squad bereft of quality a short term infusion to stave of relegation. This will damage our longer term prospects as the money will effectively be redirected from longer term solutions. If we were even in a safe position we could make better strategic decisions e.g not spending until the (usually) better summer transfer window arises.

I think a lot of it will be decided on where we are in the table.

That, and when you look at the players who are expected to leave, you ask the question of whether they have already been replaced.

Bindon: replaced by Ben Mee

Barry: replaced by Brooks with Hamer to return from injury

Riedewald signs a new contract, from what I've seen so far he definitely should be here longer than January.

The board will want a fine balance of wanting to cash-in while avoiding relegation.

Quite a few out I think with maybe one in I can’t see yet more major investment

Need two forwards one with pace to stretch teams, the other a big basted to provide physical presence.

A right back

An attacking midfielder who can score 4 or 5 goals to the end of the season

End the loans of Godfrey, Bindon and Barry

If we are lower mid table, not safe from relegation, but slowly moving in the right direction. Which is where I expect us to be in Jan. I would not splash money on expensive loans, in some vain hope of catching a good wind for the play offs and some vain hope we could then win the play offs. Get some solid players who give us squad options where we are lacking and just focus on improving the players we have for the rest of the season.

It will be loans out loans in any fees based on sales only

Bettis said in his Radio Sheffield interview it would be very much based around the loan market.
Does Bettis not believe in permanent transfers? Swear we just love loaning players. Its embarrassing. Last year we had more than the permitted loanees in the matchday squad. We paid at least £1m in a loan fee for Rak -Sakyi, and didnt Millwall pay £1m for Femi Azeez. God knows how expensive the loan fees in last january were.
Selles himself said it in pre season that they're only focused on loans and free agents, yet the first free agent signed was Danny Ings. Close to the deadline!! Its crap business. Let alone crap footballing business.

Why we dont scour the lower leagues for a small initial transfer fee in the aim to potentially sell for a higher fee in the future. Let alone free agents (See Harry Darling). And this nonsense that there's better value in the market later in the window is just rubbish, teams can over inflate their prices at that time as they know we're desperate...
The board have really stuffed us!!

Rant over.

I think an issue would be long term cash flow, if we spend a lot of cash on signings and contracts then end up in League one next season we could find our selves in financial difficulties

There’s no place for financial common sense on here. Please desist immediately.

A tight back who can defend…..and a Souttar.

Unless we've achieved a meteoric rise up the league then nobody with any ambition will be coming to The Lane in January

Bearing in mind wilder knew he was in a position of power as they went grovelling to him, I would expect he demanded control of signings as a pre requisite for returning.

As such it will be culture carriers, elbows and gives 100%’ers Al the way - cheeky bid for mcburnie?😂

If skint, player swap deals might be the way forward. I also think that Louza would be a good signing as he’s a bit different to what we have. It’s whether they would let him go.

Also I think they ought to test the water for Josh Sargent.

I’d also say we have a huge problem with offering long term contracts to the wrong players. We were lumbered with Brewster and have done the same with Cannon. We got lucky with Moore, offering a 32 year old a 3 year contract was nuts, we just got rid at the first opportunity.
