Wilder's Reaction

To be fair to Wilder, anyone who'd spent 90 minutes next to Bristol's disgrace of a backroom staff would be SEETHING WITH RAGE and unlikely to be calm and considered when interviewed.

I'd quite like us to beat them in the play-offs...

Seriously? You like the way we play. I have been out of the country and this is my first game since Nov 5th. The way we are now playing is pitiful compared to when we had Coutts. We cout out the middle and play long. We have no direction and any passing play seems to be more like Adkins styleee than Wilder. Moore is punting it long. No wonder he made the bizarre substitutions, there was no need for a midfield. More like this and there is no reason for Brooks to stay.

??? So you don't like the way we have been playing over the last 21 games, you really think we played badly tonight and don't think it's an improvement on recent seasons. Never mind.

I understand what you are saying, but to be fair it's a bit like the cricket team complaining about the Aussie sledging. We wouldn't be complaining if we'd won.:)

Are you being serious?

'Pitiful'?
'Adkins style'?

What a bizarre post. Did you miss the whole of the 1st half where we played them off the park and hit the woodwork 4 times?

Hate to say it but Chris has let himself down with his comments about the ref. I'm disappointed in him probably for the first time.

He's entitled to be disappointed with the ref, if that's his view. He hardly does it regularly does he? I've still yet to be disappointed with Wilder. 10/10 for me. Mistakes are always going to be made by managers, players, officials etc. We're not getting the rub of the green right now and that's a huge factor for me in any sport.

I totally agree. He has done nothing wrong, imo. just protecting his players.

So he d
I can understand Chris not seeing the high foot clearly, but the Christmas shopping comment was a touch on the childish side. No need for that.
so he didn’t nearly take Jacks head off then?

The scary thing is we keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome and then saying we did everything. Leon has been the only player who looks capable of hitting a decent shot on target for many matches, others hitting the bar and post or over the bar ultimately counts for little. Other sides are not so wasteful against us and the percentage of their efforts on target is high, ours is low. They don't waste it in the final third so much or come away looking for hard luck stories.

Well Leon is the best in the division. Not as if he’s lucky

Harsh. We are so much better than any game under Adkins, even post Coutts, it’s not even funny.

I actually thought the red was decent. He could possibly have given a free kick for a high foot in the build up to the winner, but other than the last 5 minutes where he missed a couple of obvious fouls, I thought he was alright.

Today was one of those days. We played well and we would win that 9/10. We didn’t, but I’m not disappointed - it was a good performance.

I was certain I saw one of their payers go in foot off floor studs up a few minutes after the sending off too? Was I seeing things? As no one else has mentioned it. That and the elbow to the face as they broke away. Very poor refereeing last night

How can anyone who actually paid attention to the game last night say that the ref had a good game? I thought the Fleck challenge could have been yellow or red so no real complaint there but he made numerous other strange / incorrect calls during the 90 mins.

How much time wasting did he allow from their keeper from minute 1? He never even looked in the direction of their keeper whilst he was taking 30 seconds for every kick - not even 1 verbal warning and it went on for 90 mins. How many times did he not allow enough advantage after a foul before pulling it back when we were in good positions? How many blatant fouls did he ignore directly in front of him from their giant centre back? The palm off to the face that was ignored? The numerous flying elbows that were ignored? Genuinely thought he spent more time looking the other way than at the ball. Can understand Chris' frustration at him especially as the high foot on their lead up to the winner was so blatant.

Thought Bristol City were very agricultural but defensive effective. Can see them not loosing many games this year but will struggle to score. Their number 14 was one of the worst players that I've seen at the Lane.

Cant work out if Wilder has hurt you in some way ,you just have no idea about football ,you are a grunter or an attention seeker ,but that has to go down as one of the worst posts Ive ever seen on this forum.

I think to an extent he has a point. We gave away possession cheaply last night a lot of the time. Moore did hit a lot of long balls, particularly first half, and every time we didn't get the second ball because there was no one near the knock down. City had almost as much possession as us first half and a lot of that was our fault.

When we did get hold of possession, we didn't capitalise on it enough. The misses weren't unlucky, they were sloppy, (not Duffy's in the second half). Then, yet again, we concede late in the first half by letting someone have a free shot.

Saying all that, we got back into the game and would probably have won it if it wasn't for Fleck's rush of blood to the head. But if we'd made more of our possession in the middle of the first half and not conceded a goal, we'd have been ahead with something to hang onto.

And CW putting Carruthers on was just ridiculous. I get that we couldn't just sit and defend for thirty minutes and I've got no problem with the other two subs and the way we continued to provide a threat so they couldn't commit too many forwards and I thought it was working well but with a man down and a few minutes left we just chucked a point away. I wouldn't have minded at all going for it if we'd had eleven men but it's just too big a gamble when you're down to ten.

It wasn't a shit performance and I can't agree it was Adkins like, there was no lack of effort, commitment or motivation and at times we passed it around well and kept them contained most of the time but there's a lot to be worked on.

Apart from everything else, it's good to know that when Chris does eventually move on, in about 15 years time, his successor's waiting in the wings ready to take over

Just watched the game back and Wilder makes some fair comments. Should have been a free kick before their 2nd for a high boot in O'connells face.

22 should have been booked 5 minutes earlier than he was.

We were still the better team with 10 men and were dreadfully unlucky with the goal as a 50/50 lands right on their lads foot.

Don't really understand what he means about early Christmas shopping - that he's going to be dropped for a poor performance?

Just not going our way at the moment but my take on the last 4 games is this

Fulham - we got them on a night when they looked very good and we gave them 2 goals. defeat was a fair result.
Birmingham - by far the better side but we were punished for giving them space on the edge of the box. should have won.
Millwall - an off day for all concerned but again I felt we were punished very well for 2 mistakes on their first 2 goals fair result
Bristol - we were the better side and would have won it 8/10 times.

TBH I thought this habit of us getting punished for our mistakes when we push forward would be the theme of the season and that we'd have to tone it down a bit in this league. Overall it hasn't really happened except the last 3 or 4 games and if I were Wilder I'd stick with this approach for a bit yet

My team for the next game would be

Moore - (only because he's currently got the shirt)
Baldock - CCV - Wright - JOC - Stevens
Basham - Lundstram
Duffy
Sharp - Clark

An alternative, based on 4-2-3-1 would be

Moore
Baldock - Stearman - JOC - Stevens
Basham - Lundstram
Brooks - Duffy - Carruthers
Clarke

Roll on January for a bit of a shake up

Sorry but i think the ref was poor and missed several incidents. What about Duffy first half on the right, when he would have been into the box on the angle and was dragged back ? No yellow card and didn't even give the foul, the linesman flagged it.

Don't know why people are getting at Chris for moaning about the ref. In all the time he has been here I can't think of another time he has done that. He never moaned after the horrific tackle at Leeds or when Brooksy was kicked around at QPR. He has criticised other players for throwing themselves to the ground but not the ref
I suspect this may have been a build up of poor decisions but he is hardly porky Carlos

Laser guided goals against us are the norm, or is it that we've been in L1 that long they all look like goal of the month. Apart from Leon we need others like Fleck to take the opportunities and have a go as well as working our well organised plays.
