Hope you’re joking; way to early to say. We couldn’t have had better fixture tonight after Friday.

It did the trick tonight though because the players actually turned up ! Regardless of Saturday Wilders rant had a huge effect of us getting 3pts tonight

I was going to start a thread but I'll post my thoughts in here...

Quick turn around from Friday to Tuesday, with an abject performance that he wasn't willing to let become form.
What's the ways he can handle it?
Buy the group beers? Done it, and they didn't deserve it.
Defend the group to take the heat off? Done it and again, they didn't deserve it.
Get back to training to become technically better? Not doable with the time constraints.

He did exactly what he had to do to create the largest impact in the amount of time given - give out a proper bollocking.
A calculated risk as confidence could have dropped, but he'd obviously weighed up the teams character and knows they can handle it.

Sir Chris Wilder - manager, genius, god.

Nail on head pal. Wilder doesn't buy shrinking violets, so giving them all a dressing down in public was almost always going to get the response he wanted.

Also, good that he got a bit of a sidewinder in at the boardroom at the same time.

During our years in L1, we had teams/players that continuously put in mediocre, poor performances. I certainly wondered whether those teams were capable of any better. This team, the majority anyway, have put in some spanking performances over 18 months, so we know they can do better than Hull; that performance was so out of character, I don't think it warranted the outbursts, including CW's, that it got. I'm not sure the Reading performance had much to do with CW's rant. For me, it had more to do with this being a group of honest, hard working players just playing the way we all know they can play. That aside Wilder deserves credit for putting this group together in the first place.

Er, sorry for being pedantic but....

That 'W' in CW is..er, an upside down 'M'... o_O

Reading are in dreadful form but were good enough to draw with Derby at the weekend, we were maybe not at our best but still got a fairly comfortable win. If you want to be ultra critical you could say we very nearly let them back in it gifting them a goal and a spot kick, an on form United would have probably put 5 or 6 past that shower.

It certainly did do the trick.

If we won 6-1 like we should have done everybody would be saying what an incredible impact his rant had.
I think what Chris said in public was wrong myself. I love the man but I think He was out of order and these things should be said in the privacy of the dressing room not humiliating players in public. There’s enough fickle fans watching United without giving these sort ammunition. That’s the way I see it anyway!!

As long as he said the same or worse to them in the dressing room I've got no problem with it.

It was a calculated risk he could afford to take - he's not about to lose the players' respect.

If they didn't respect him it would've been ill advised but last night showed that they do respect him.

Think that CW (and the rest of us) saw Friday's performance coming for a while - we have been off it for a bit (even though our short term league results are ok) and they had probably already had the 'behind closed doors' bollockings.

This was something else, something away from the norm which worked a treat and to me is an excellent piece of team management no matter how it looks from the outside.

CW still has concerns about the ownership struggle but it bodes well with how the 'Owners' see Chris and his management credentials. They have a real 'keeper' on their hands - so keep him happy FFS

Those poor footballers getting a public bollocking, I really do feel sorry for them after putting in a totally fucking inept performance. Its the least they deserved.
Tell me you are joking !!!
Did you go and pay your hard earned cash have tiime off work to go and see what they served up at Hull ? How do you know they didnt get a bollocking ?
Im pretty sure they would have done

Did the trick

So when we lose its the players fault and they deserve a bollocking for not turning up but when we win 4 days later it is the genius of the manager?

Surely Wilder was in charge before the Hull loss just as he was in charge before the Reading victory?

Wilder has been promoted last 2 seasons and that is not by chance, but come on give the players some credit.

Does he now know the direction of the club by the way?

Think you are missing the point its not when we lose that is the problem its when we put in a non performance like what we did against Hull that is mostly the players fault. Wilder gave them instructions and its clear the players either couldnt or wouldnt follow them last Friday when they clearly are able to follow instructions as we wouldnt be in and around the play offs. They needed a kick up the ass and they duly got one, they have set a standard this season you can expect a dip now and again but that perfomance was off the scale and that to Wilder is unacceptable thats why Wilder had his rant. The players do deserve a lot of credit for where we are but a reminder from the manager when standards slip is and should not be a problem for the players
