Wilders pre Barnsley interview

Doesn't sound too bubbly does he. I just hope it is a combination of crap officiating, Stearman's injury and lack of transfer movement, rather than just the latter.

Saturday does suddenly feel like a pressure game, more so perhaps than if that lino hadn't had a complete brain fart. Not saying we wouldn't be going into this all guns blazing regardless, but knowing we had at least 4 points from our first 4 would be seen as a half decent start. Funny how 1 point can make such a difference.

Does this also mean that the selling clubs ( Southend/Blackburn) ? Have maybe got us by the bollox now. Or will CW still stick to his guns regarding bids.

Sounds like Wilder is getting as pissed off with McCabe as most of the fans. Pissing about with silly bids way below the asking price was always a bonkers approach and is already costing us points.
Wasn't it CW who said he knows the value of a player and he wont pay over the odds in fee or wages, I'm not a McCabe fan but I think it's more down to Chris Wilders moral stance/ stubbornness than KM.

We must have been watching a different game then. Even with my most blade tinted glasses on, i can't say they didn't out play us in patches
They had long(er) spells of possession, yes. They sprayed it about nicely, yes. Did it get them anywhere? No. I'm convinced we were happy to let gingers dictate due to the area of the park he operated. He and they never really got anywhere and most certainly didn't outplay us.

Boro and Cardiff a totally different matter, though.

In which direction?

My guess..

Two in (one of them a loan)

Three out Brayford, Hanson, Brooks.

At least 3 in, probably 4 - CB, CM, striker, possibly attacking midfielder/winger.

At least 2 out - Brayford, Hanson, possibly Lavery on loan. Hopefully not Brooks.

"Wheeling and dealing"...

Sounds like he needs to offload a few players before he can buy.

He doesn't sound as down as some people make out, good to hear he has complained to the FA about some of the shocking decisions in the first few matches.

Must be frustrating that we are no further forward on incomings.

Barnsley game is a better marker. Think we did fine against Brenford and Boro (could have gone either way really) but battered against Cardiff despite our 1 chance from 6 yards out which was unfortunately missed.

We need a couple of left field signings as to my eye Leonard and Lenihan aren't the answer to what we really need...ie a big f off centre half and a forward with pace and power. Norwich are about to sign Raggett and Cardiff have signed Nigel, they are the type of players we need

Which is fair enough - wonder what the blockers are?

I'd have given up on the Southend and Blackburn players and moved on?
His language was interesting there, transfers moving "as quickly as we've wanted to do it". "We've" inferring it's a collective approach it also ties up with his comments earlier in the season in that he won't over pay.
Frustration at deals not getting over the line but I didn't pick up on any of that being at the board not throwing more money at it.

No , we were all watching exactly the same game . You claim we should/could have lost . I claim we were deserved winners . Opinions are all thats different . Fortunately for the Blades , my opinion is shared by most .

Turns out my opinion that a draw would have been the correct result is correct.

My impression, rightly or wrongly, is that we've been playing long game with Leonard and Lenihan.

If that's the case just hope they either cave, or we're willing to up the offers. Otherwise we'll need some good back up plans up our sleeve.

I do wish we'd cut this unlucky, hard done to bollocks into touch though. It's like McCabe and his West Ham shit, it's just pathetic now and just gives excuse to poor performance now when it's irrelevant.
It happens, it's doesn't have to be fair and there isn't rhyme or reason to it so stop feeling so sorry for yourselves.
This isn't a mentality we should look to foster, and we weren't crying about decisions last season.
S.U.M.O.

No your wrong ....ha! Its all about opinions, We were clearly outplayed by Brentford in large parts of the game, if you think we are heading for lower mid table with this team then ur kidding urself, relegation scrap as we are.
outplayed.. whatever.. this isn't ice skating.. there are no artistic merit points.. it's about getting the ball in the net more times than your opponent

One assumes he's only looking for players who walk into our starting XI. We've got more than enough squad depth. We're lacking in real quality.

This. Absolutely this. Which makes matters much harder as there'll be what we want to spend vs what the other club wants to get, given that we're in the last week, they won't be able to replace, they'll know our position. That makes for particularly difficult negotiations so I won't be completely surprised if we don't get anything over the line and look to picking up a few from PL squads instead.

We'll know their position too - stuck with a player who doesn't want to be there. It's going to be a case of who blinks first. It will be very disappointing if we can't get some deals done in the next two weeks.

We can't the loan window shuts same time as transfer window.

id add that we also got outplayed by Brentford for majority of game. And although we could scored a couple more we could also have lost 3-1

I don’t think “outplayed for the majority of the game” is a fair assessment at all. I’d say it was a close game that swung back and forth where both teams had spells on top. We scored one of our chances and had a goal wrongfully disallowed. They missed a couple of good chances.

We’re light at centre half in terms of depth. With Stearman out injured, if Brayford does go as planned and we lose another one to injury, who comes in? Lafferty out of position? Young Bomber?

Must have been at another match to me, Blackman pulled off 4 great saves and their player headed over when it was easier to score.

4?

1 in the first half he tipped over. (good save but would have been a bit disappointed if he’d been beaten by it).

1 from range when they headed the rebound over (good save but would have been a bit disappointed if he’d been beaten by it)

1 from the one-on-one late on (excellent save he had no right to make).

When was the other one?

In contrast, we had a goal wrongfully disallowed and hit the post twice.

It allowed us to get JOC, Clarke, Moore, Lafferty etc. cheaper last season than if we’d gone straight in with big bids. But there comes a point where if it doesn’t work, you might have to increase or change targets. I suppose we’ll see what comes. My concern isn’t that we haven’t landed the likes of Leonard or Holmes. It’s more that we don’t seem to be in the market (and I understand why- it’s too expensive) for a striker who is likely to excel at this level. Whilst it’s understandable, I think that’s the biggest barrier between a bottom half scrap and a team that can challenge in the top half.

Stevens, Lafferty; JOC, Thomas etc. Do we really need any more left field signings? I’d say we need them up front and at CB.

See what I did there?
