Sorry. For some reason I thought you were talking about the broken corner flag. Think I must have been reading about that prior to seeing your post (It was right in front of me as well
That could've been the type of daft injury we get (peck)

I can pretty much guarantee he won’t get fired, nor should he to be fair.

Reason 1 I don’t think COH can afford it. If they could then they would have gone elsewhere.

Reason 2 his disciplinary issues aren’t exactly an unknown, like it or not it comes with the package

Talks of it being assault or deliberate are just completely daft. It was an act of petulance that have could have injured the old fella.

But that’s been and gone now. I’m not even sure Wilder can sort this mess out, it runs deep

Forget it Jake, it’s Wildertown……

For all you CW haters
McBurnie said "The C W is a special person and manager. I've a huge amount of respect and admiration for him.

"He's a top, top motivator and top man-manager. "I never played for anyone who can get so much out of you with motivation. I'm 99.9 per cent sure that most players who've played under him will agree with what I am saying.
He's had a long and pretty successful career. He's great at some bits, less at others.

Couldn’t stop the slide in 20/21
Couldn’t stop the slide at boro
Couldn’t improve the team at Watford
Couldn’t turn us around last year when performances dropped off
Hasn’t really had much of an impact with most of his squad from last season.

He was an exceptional manager, whatever happened during Covid he’s come out of it a different, more cautious manager.

Stupid, yes.
But manager's etc do stupid things in the heat of the moment. It's happened before and it'll happen again.
But there's a lot of Wilder haters and/or Guardian readers on here just waiting to have a go.
Please explain the connection between Guardian readers, of which I am one, and "just waiting to have a go", presumably at Wilder, though your post suggests at anything.

“Lefties, something something, do-gooders, something something, psychologists, something else, this football club”.

Quite a stupid thing for Wilder to do, but wouldn’t put it down to much more than him just being idiotic. He didn’t do it with the intent of hitting him. He should be controlling himself, however.

That being said, I feel very bad for the older bloke that got hit by the ball. Hope he’s alright ❤️
if hed been eating a balti pie he may have choked to death.

lucky really

Just listened to Wilders 24 min interview on Radio Sheffield and its full of excuses for his actions. As usual no holding his hands up and saying i shouldn't have done it, I regret it etc. Its just slagging the ref off for sending him off. Goes on about friends in thr game, ex pros etc getting in touch and commiserating. Says he nonchalantly put the ball back to where it came from and got a flier on it. Maybe so but no contrition whatsoever. Symptomatic of it never being his fault for anything and shows hes not learned at all from his stint out of the game

"no contrition whatsoever" ???

Did you see the incident?

He literally went straight into the stand to apologise!

Well as this thread is about Wilder I would have thought it pretty obvious that my post was aimed at those just waiting to have a go at er, Wilder.
Insofar as the Guardian readers bit is concerned I must confess that I actually bought it for many years until I realised it began to go downhill/woke following MI6 raiding its offices in 2014. Since that date it ceased to be a "fearless investigative bastion of independent journalism". I still read it online but only because it's a case of know thine enemy.
It is now run by Head Girls and read only by teachers.
So yes, fwiw I do believe that the mentality of avid Guardian readers would lead them to be amongst Wilder's fiercest critics, hence my somewhat, but not wholly tongue in cheek comment/attempt at humour.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned that the bloke
To be fair, the chap who got hit is, I’d estimate, in his 70s. He didn’t see it coming and it smacked him full in the face while he was looking at his phone, sending his specs flying down the stand. He looked dazed for some minutes afterward.

There will be an overreaction to this, for sure. But “so what” is a pretty dodgy take in its own right.

So my friends, we have deduced that it was Wilder, in the stadium, with the match ball.

And there we have it, the motive, the bloke was at the match but looking at his phone - everything that is wrong with the game. Had he been glued to the real action on the pitch he could have somersaulted Zlatan style and overhead kicked the ball back into play leaving their goalie flapping Hart style.

Not talking about the incident, I'm talking about the interview on RS, have a listen and see what u think. I like Wilder and thought it was a good appointment to bring him back but he comes with baggage which has already reared its head within 3 games, i thought he might last a bit longer.

I'm a Guardian reader. Never been a teacher though!!

Section 47, Offences Against The Person Act 1861 - the act that covers assault legislation

'
  • Intent or Recklessness: The defendant can be guilty if they either intended to cause the victim to apprehend immediate unlawful violence, or if they acted recklessly and didn't care about the effect their actions would have on the victim.
Your legal knowledge is lacking I'm afraid.

And, I don't have to read up on it. Momentary loss of control is often the cause of one individual assaulting another, intentionally or recklessly, and it is irrelevant as to where the suspected offender was born or who they follow as a football club.

He let us down, again.
Bet you're the sort of bloke who bans conkers in school

Reading threads like this makes me think about following a different sport.
How many spectators were hit by the ball under Basset and Warnock when the players would hoof it out deliberately.

I hope the club does the right thing by the fella that was hit, and that he is alright though.
Hope they see him right.

Not sure what they could offer though - no one wants free tickets at the moment, and a guided trip around the trophy room won't take long.

Interested to see what Bettis thinks of.

Clearly it’s not an issue to the board.

It wasn’t exactly an unknown when he was brought back.

But it’s all about the bottom line with COH
Is it?

They've paid out for 2 managers to be sacked already.

Hardly the act of watching the bottom line is it?

In the end nobody was injured ,fortunately, but what's slightly worrying is why did he feel that he had to do it, we'd just seen them miss a penalty it's half time, yet he goes and does that, yes, we all have moments I know, but it could have hit a child or an old lady and been far worse, maybe someone would have punched his lights out who knows, now he's got a touchline ban, great!.
I think he does it to show the supporters how passionate he is.

I'm happy enough with the badge thumping. He doesn't need to assault Plymouth players, leg it down the tunnel at Wembley or kick balls into the crowd to show me he cares.

If he calmed down a bit, he'd be better for it.

1 manager, they’ve brought the other one back
I'll bet money has changed hands though, I suspect his contract has been cancelled and compensation paid. The contract he's on now is shorter than the one he was on before isn't it?

Despite his pashun for Utd, and being 100% blade, Wilder knows what a £ looks like. He's had plenty of them off the club, and hasn't been shy in taking money from the club.

He's got a fish supper to pay for now too, after his antics on Tuesday night.
