True, but not all interviewers ask daft questions.

The Norwood one was fair enough, but it was a fair question too as I think Norwood was the nominated player for the media.

I’d say Giddings is wise enough around CW to ask questions rather than make an assumption about the team selection.

I didnt think Tufty was too difficult tonight. A silly question about Oli Norwood apart, it was a pretty steady interview - as interviews go between McCarthy and Wider. He has definitely learnt a trick or two from Dave Bassett though ..... talk about go off at a tangent and talk about what you want to talk about rather than answer more silly questions.

The Norwood question was completely fair but yet again Wilder chose to respond in a way that he wouldn't to any other interviewer. The amount of times he will say to MM "I've just told you" or "Well I've just said" is also telling.

It's childish and completely unnecessary imo and Wilder's demeanour when interviewed by MM is a world away from what it is with anyone else. As much as I admire the bloke, he does not appear to be someone who can bury a grudge.

It seems they got off on the wrong foot when Mike arrived and ever since then Wilder has no intention of putting it to bed. I could understand if Mike was just giving endless interviews of stupid questions, he wouldn't have lasted more than 2 minutes at Radio Sheffield if he did.

To be fair this interview was not as bad as the others but he still finds something to pull Mike up on.

I've worked with the media over many years and met a number of radio and tv presenters. Some have huge egos but virtually all of them are:
a) Ambitious
b) Competitive
When I first heard Mike McCarthy on Radio Sheffield he struck me as someone who wanted to make a name for himself by asking probing questions. Maybe he has set his sights on a future job with Radio 5 Live, or TV, and is trying to make his mark. Or maybe he wants to be the next 'John Motson'. Whatever the reason, he got off on the wrong foot with Wilder.
I've never met MM; maybe he needed putting in his place, or maybe it's time for CW to give him some respect.

Think he asked him some cheeky questions without first building a rapport with Wilder and now Wilder doesnt like him. I remember a question last season about the crowd getting on Lundstrums back after a bad performance really seemed to annoy him.

If you dont know someone well you dont ask them cutting questions do you? Its just rude. He was on a hiding to nothing after that.

When Mike McCarthy started last season he was really crap at his job. He wasn't asking probing questions, he was asking fucking shit questions.

Like with everyone, Wilder gives him the respect he deserves.

Think it was the Lundstram question that really did for his lack of media rapport with CW. It was clear that CW was trying to not lose his shit with him in that interview. It was also early in their professional relationship so he hadn't built up the respect needed, nor did MM know when to ask the questions and when to leave it.

CW can be a prickly character if he's not in the zone for one reason or another or something has annoyed him.

If you want to hear a decent interwiew from CW on radio Sheffield, then it is always done by Andy Giddings, who CW clearly respects and is relaxed with his answers.
