What do people think we should do on Friday against Leicester:

A) Take Nigel Clough’s negative approach which was so effective in the Cup but awful in the league. Keep things tight and compact against Leicester and try and get a replay at the Lane.

B) Tuftys’ gung ho all out attack which has been so successful throughout the last 18 months but does leave us exposed against fast quality teams on the counter attack (which Leicester definitely are).

I think we’ve got to have a go at the King Power but I think it probably will cost us the match. I’m gonna say 2-0 to Leicester but I do hold out some optimism!

I imagine the instructions will be, go out there and enjoy yourselves lads. Make an impact, express yourselves etc.

I don't think Clough's counter attacking will work against Leicester as we saw previously they are a team of very athletic players (not too dissimilar to watching a line up for a 100m final), so it has to be our usual game and hope our lads have their finishing boots on.

I would hit them in short sharp stints but generally keep it tight and try and keep hold of the ball as they have players who can hurt us and plenty of pace.

If he plays his 'first team' you're looking at Vardy and Mahrez. If he plays his 'reserves' then Iheanacho and Diabate. Either we if we play an open game they'll probably tear us a new one. And I've not even mentioned Demarai Gray.

The Wilder way. It's the way we know. And, to be honest, I'd sooner we lost than had to play a replay.

Demarai Gray completely ripped us to shreds in the cup earlier this season. I don't think I've seen a player more effective against us this season but he was up against our 2nd string.......

Actually not a bad question, since we won't lose any points in the League:

What is the end product of this game, what can we learn, how can we improve and it what areas? What is the main benefit of this game?

1) Try to set out to bolster the defence - as in the target is to stop goals to give the defence a run out

2) Boss the midfield - can we go head to head with Leicester and play them at their game

3) All out attack - take shots, get the ball crossed in - quick passing from midfield to run onto forward balls

Obviously the main one is NO INJURIES / NO RED CARDS

But I don't know what the changes will be and therefore what we will take into the QPR game. I will say that I think we have enough rotational players that need practice and game time prior to the big League finish, so I'm not worried about a draw either and back to the Lane.

It's a bit of a sad indictment of the times we are in when I say that I couldn't really give a fuck about how we play down there on Friday . Would I like to see us win ? Of course I would . If we lose ? Oh well .....

Now seeing Ched and particularly Brooks getting a good run out , well thats a different matter entirely .

Not really bothered about the cup. It's been a welcome break to have some cup runs in recent years but right now I'm actually enjoying the league and we're doing well in it. I expect the approach to be the same as the other cup games. We'll play half a team, resting those who need it most. The one thing I have liked about Wilder's approach is that the system doesn't tend to change much with the personnel. We have a preferred style and the reserves are expected to be ready and able to fit into that system.

We played okay vs. Leicester back at the start of the season and they turned us over 4-1. Yes, a cagey, defensive, approach to the game might have held things tighter but it still probably would've lost. I'd rather set a standard across the club of how we expect to play and see that executed throughout.

Think it will be a lot more difficult than they think.

But I just cannot see there quality that will be on show in the end.

Kick Vardy and Mahrez out of the ground and give the rest sly kidney punches when the ref is looking away

The best outcome would be to complete the game with no injuries and no suspensions.

The rest is a bonus.

By the limited options in midfield I’d be very surprised to not see Basham and Lundstram. That would be consistent to what Wilder has done in the 3rd round. In the 4th he played Fleck but he is also not available.

This in itself would make the defence less gung-ho. Wright or Heneghan replacing Basham there will curtail the attacks from RCB.

The other option is to retain our ‘A’ defence but then surely Lundstram and Carruthers would turn over the ball too much and lack the defensive awareness having Basham in there would provide.

I think effectivly having five in midfield allows us to compete. Three at the back should make Vard’s job more difficult and 2 up top at least gives us some attacking ourlet but we need to be better in possession in the final third than at Wolves and avoid turning over the ball so readily.

Do that and we can be confident of keeping them to single figures :D

There are times when a "Clough" counter attacking style might have served us well in some league games recently,
as much as like CWs "gung ho" style sometimes you have to sit back a bit, contain them and then hit them on the break, and i think that is how we should go on Friday, i also think we might see Carruthers flourish in that system with Brooks or Wilson feeding off him and each other.

To be honest it would be nice to get a win but not bothered if we go out having given it a good go and a run out for a few fringe players.

We got smashed at the Lane in the League Cup.

We didn’t do to bad going forward but looked very vulnerable at the back, seem to remember Leicester getting through us time after time. But felt the score line was a little harsh. But it seems to go back to this feeling that every shot against us goes in.

If our ultimate aim is to play teams like Leicester week in week out, I’d like to see Wilder show us how he would go about it. I know it’s the cup but there’s no real expectation. We were nowhere near Wolves a couple of weeks ago, and whilst I love our aggressive attitude, we may need a change of tack for better opposition!

Having seen the Brizzal drop off since their EFL Cup semi, I hope we go out but give a good account for the travelling fans (as there are a lot of them). I would hope Brooks and Ched get a run out also which would make the tie useful.

Thing is Clough wasn't that negative against the higher division clubs in the Cups.

That why I, and no doubt others, got so frustrated with his approach to the league in his final season.

It is a good point. I think he let them off the leash a bit in the cup with Murphy, Brayford & Baxter causing mayhem to defences (FA Cup the year before), but had a "defenders win leagues" mentality that failed for the league. But also remember that he lost Maguire for the league so the defence has not recovered until Chris Wilder and Alan Knill sorted it out with JOC, Wright & EBL.

He never made any attempt to replace Butler after his bizarre early exit, apart from the short loan of McCarthy who was patently unfit and a shadow of the player he was.

When we regularly conceded from bread and butter crosses it made him negligent imho.

Think we're giving our fearless leader a bit of the short stick here i've no doubt it will be an element of that but we won't be going into any game without being thoroughly prepared with a clear tactical plan. I think that's been evident in the games in which we've done well a clear plan and philosophy.

We kept putting it in behind their full backs against Leeds with the strikers pulling wide because their full backs always go forward. That's not a mistake. I think if you take the fan out sometimes and watch the game you'd see Wilder is tactically astute and Knill is a big part of that.

I'm presuming you were either:

Not at Villa Park
Too pissed to understand what was happening

We went there and dominated them. Having said that, they weren't a patch on what Leicester are at present.

Vardy, Mahrez and co are a conpletely different class to aston villa who have only just found some form after a season and a half in the championship

If we manage to get through, then it's one game from the semi at Wemberleeee. If you are not bothered about the cup then i don't suppose you would want a Wembly ticket if it happened.......nah, bet you wouldn't.
