There's no argument about how successful Wilder has been upto his final 6/7 months as Manager. He brought the club back to life in a way that re-engaged Fans and played beautiful football along the way.
On reflection, a Manager like Wilder was always going to be found wanting when it comes to managing a club in the Premier League with a miserly budget and a narrow 'British' recruitment policy. I genuinely believe had COVID not happened we may have been OK this season. But everything went against us with the loss of momentum, poor recruitment & injuries.
Best we can hope for next season as we face a different United management structure is an influx of foreign players that 'get' what it takes to be a United player - a bit like Shaun Murphy, Vas Borbokis, Marcelo all did.
I'd also like to see the Academy development work resume and hopefully a mixture of local talent get a chance to shine - a bit like Walker, Naughton, Maguire, Lowton all did.
I think if a new regime could source global talent and nurture academy players into a side that can play to the template of football that Wilder left behind, there's no reason we can't be optimistic.
