Le bris was actually a fairly unknown quantity before Sunderland. Had one good season and one shit in ligue 1 and was sacked after getting relegated with Lorient. You could argue even selles had a similar pedigree to him (particularly in English football) before joining us. Sunderland also sold Jack Clarke to Ipswich in the summer before 24/25. They have rich owners who have spent in the premier league yes but they didn’t buy promotion.

But Le Bris wouldn't have done the job he's done with them, with us, because - and I know I'm repeating myself here - of the ownership situation.

And I know they sold Clarke - virtually all clubs sell their better players. It's who you replace them with that counts.

In my original reply to Moody, I would have been better to make the point that we don't have Sunderland's owners, rather than focussing on the budget, because, although the budget's important, I think the nous in knowing how to run a football club is every bit as important as the budget, if not more so. At the moment, Sunderland have both and we have neither, and fans whining on here, "I want to be like Sunderland" ain't gonna change that.

He's proved over the last few years that he's a crap coach, a terrible tactician, and he's completely certain to throw the players under the bus to cover up his own negative, turgid playing style and boring game plan. He's also filled the club with his useless, wage-stealing stooges, like fucking Hoyland, who have made him nearly unsackable.
Of course we are all grateful for the job he did when he first came in. They were great years but they are gone, and all we are left with is this pathetic shell of a manager and his out-dated ideas and massive ' its not my fault' ego.
Still.......we might stay up this season and the 'cult of Wilder will rejoice.

I don’t think I’ve been as bored at a match than watching that turgid shit today. There’s oil tankers presently in the Straights of Hormuz that have moved quicker recently than Peck and Rothwell. Have we ever had midfielders as slow as those two? We’re crying out for a change of direction, it’s painful. If a non United fan asked me what our style of play was I honestly couldn’t tell them. No wonder Brookes wanted to piss off. He saw the writing on the wall alright. Overreaction after one game? I don’t think so. My god, this is going to be one hard, boring, tedious season.

Didn’t watch the match as on holiday but it sounds a typical start of the season match.

We need to get to the end of the window and see where the squad is at before we truly know what we are dealing with.

However, we are effectively in turmoil behind the scenes - owners in court for non-payment of £35m to the Prince, loss of parachute payments, £22m net owed on transfers etc.

For me, as things currently stand we need to lower expectations to hope for a solid but un-spectacular season.

Not an inspiring message ahead of the new season but I fear one bad move from the owners could see us relegated, it’s happened to plenty of teams once parachute payments have gone.

I agree Wilder isn’t what he used to be and I don’t like it when his ego shows itself, but in the situation we are in he’s solid enough to do the job I think we need this season.

Irrational hatred? I don’t hate Wilder, I’m happy for what he’s achieved at this club and the memories he’s given us as a fanbase. However, I don’t think he should’ve been given his third (THIRD) chance at our great club following the Sunderland game. He’s proven his ineffectiveness as a modern day manager and I feel fans like you still think he’s the manager of 2016, when he’s not. The game has passed him by. Hes on a downward curve and has been for a while. These are all completely rational reasons why I want him out. He’s incapable now and he’s being kept on because of his blade status. It’s sad.

The owners won’t sack him but it doesn’t stop fans being entitled to call for his sacking. That’s how football works. This is our club.

He should have never been given the opportunity to come back in the first place after costing us automatic promotion the season before. He’s spent as a manager. It’s a shame the owners got his replacement so wrong with Selles as their intention of replacing this old dinosaur with a progressive young manager and modernising the club was completely the right call.

Style of play yesterday was "Av it"
I agree don't think I have ever been so board at a match as yesterday infact i was about too doze off until someone woke me up wanting to get past to their seat.

We didn't create much last season and now we have lost Brooks and Hamer's contribution in that department it was only going too get worse, but I'm sure when Wilder gets his two Centre half's in the chances will flow.
I have seen alot on here saying that was a middle table display, some even lower half display. Unfortunately if you don't score goals you get relegated and to score goals you need to create chances. We created naff all yesterday Bamford and Cannon were feeding off long hoofs up field neither of them are that kind of Forward. The one bright spark was Oné who when he came on was prepared to run at them instead of looking to pass it backwards, sideways or just kicking it aimlessly Forward.
Unfortunately he's now injured which is probably a blessing in disguise for our tactical genius of a manager who now won't have to make the decision to keep him on the bench for the next game.

Some on here want the same! We cannot afford champagne, but on the whole I thought what was offered instead was better than expected. There were obvious issues, but not conceding was a massive bonus.

I think there are about 14 teams who will not be in contention for the top 2, or the bottom 5, but could end up anywhere between 6th and 19th. We are one of those 14, and where we end up is anyone’s guess, and at this time that is all it is a guess.

We will have rounds of endless wallowing on here about how the Premier League millions were wasted but it would be nice at some point if people could start living in the here and now.

I expected knees to be jerking for anything other than a comfortable win (especially with the late kick off extra pub time yesterday) but even then I’m a bit surprised with the vitriol. I keep seeing people who suggest there were some positives to take from yesterday being shouted down with “you think that’s a great performance?” or “are you happy watching that all season?”

No obviously not, but I’ve been around long enough to know that opening day doesn’t define a 46 game season. It’s also a fairly sure bet we’ll have some more signings in come deadline day.

I really don’t like this approach of waiting til the last moment in the window to sign players and more or less writing off August but it is what it is.

I’m most fields of employment if you are hamstrung by a lack of resources from your employer they are usually the one to cop the blame. A few want to have their cake and eat it by labelling the owners as skint and clueless but expecting Wilder to carry the can for the whole thing.

In terms of yesterday it didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know. More creativity desperately needed. I’d also like to see the Cannon project canned for good and another centre forward bringing in.

Good to see Cooper back at it and the much malaigned Tanganga had a great game. Nice to see we are less of a pushover defensively now.

Also was quite nice to be back at the lane on a Saturday, having a few pints before and taking up my new season ticket seats with my daughter. Atmosphere wasn’t bad but was always going to be a ln uphill battle with the fayre served up on the pitch.

Was yesterday really the tipping point to suggest the bloke should lose his job?

10 games in and we’re on 3 points then you can understand the unrest.

But a point yesterday, when we know he’s had to deal with losing the two most creative players shouldn’t be perceived as some final straw.

If ‘you’re’ not a fan (that’s directed at anyone, not you specifically to be clear) then by all means when the window closes and the team hasn’t picked up any meaningful results in the first dozen games then start your campaign for change.

But come on. 2 clean sheets, safe passage in the league cup and 2 weeks to upgrade the squad when finances (not the manager) dictate the attack will be strengthened by loans only at that we will need to act late to secure the optimal options.

The job he has now is far more difficult when he was first here. He’s managing shrinking resources rather than increasing ones. Talk of managerial change is total nonsense after one league game and two without defeat of conceding.

Difficult to see how we'll win a few on yesterday's evidence. Birmingham were average and we had one chance in the whole game and other than that barely a shot on target.
Donovan for Brooks looks a massive downgrade and our only dynamic player was the right back in flashes in the first half.
Lose the two games in Wales and Bolton already looks a massive game for Wilder.
Selling our two best attacking players without replacements is having a very predictable outcome for all the fixation on acquiring a centre half. McGuinness was one of the best players yesterday despite Wilder bad mouthing him and having Souttar or Anel in the team instead would make little difference to the dog's dinner further up the pitch.
In fact, Anel is a weaker player than McGuinness and would need someone like Souttar alongside side him for protection and we aren't getting both of them.
All in all we've created a huge mess despite knowing for months what the financial situation was and doing nothing in terms of smart recruitment.

He’s been given what he wanted. Last season he got Rothwell and Phillips though God knows why. He asked for and got Bamford and Jairo which possibly saved us from relegation. We still have them. Season before he asked for Cannon and he still has him. If rumours are true they were willing to get him Souttar.

The electric hedge clipper that was Brooks has been shifted out to be sacrificed for the toe nail clipper that is Phillips.

From what used to be an exciting team he’s changed us into a one dimensional borefest.
