Wilder on match officials

I'm wracking my brains and trying to think of any occassion where Wilder has slated or moaned about a referee post match throughout his tenure with the Blades.

Listening to his post match interview today I thought he handled the situation magnificently. He asked some questions without coming across as bitter or annoyed and didn't blame them for the final result.

Can anyone think of an example?

He did well to distract the interviewer away from the question regarding VAR. But he did say similar yesterday pre-match press stuff.

Personally, if I was asked about it, I'd smile and walk off.

He wanted to but Manor lads knicked it at half time.

There were a couple when he said he'd grade the refs poorly. Also remember the "How's that not a f***ing foul?" at home to Millwall last season.

I am sure Wilder vents about officials in private after the match. I don't think he fancies getting the sort of fines Warnock got for slagging them off on TV.

It’s a great attribute if he does. Think this brings even more respect for him.

Regards Chris and referees I always think back to the Leeds game at Elland Road 2 years ago.

Their defender sprinted towards Baldock and did an over excessive sliding tackle on Baldock.
He won the ball first but took Baldock out, at first it looked really dangerous and a possible leg breaker, fortunately Baldock was OK and didn’t suffer an injury.

The commentators thought the challenge was reckless and deserved a red card, it looked really bad in slow motion as Baldock went flying.
Sky asked for Wilders opinion after the match regards on the bad challenge.

Wilder said something like “it’s a Yorkshire derby, so you expect tough and hard challenges from both sides”. He said ”some refs might have sent him off but personally I think t’s a mans game and I don’t like to see players sent off for those type of strong committed challenges”

Wilder’s whole philosophy to management is to encourage players to focus only on their own game. There is no distraction or relying on excuses. The Warnock methodology was the opposite.

Wilder is truly Clough-like. The greatest compliment.

Managers who are whining and complaining about refs are using them as scapegoats to defelct from their teams and their own deficiencies.
Wilder has no need to go after officials, he knows his team and him don’t need excuses, if they are poor sometimes he’s honest enough to admit it. If he gets it wrong he takes it in the chin.

I personally always thought it works against you going after refs and linos, Warnock used to do my swede in with it

I remember him criticising the ref for not giving us a couple of pens at home to Walsall a few years back. He slags the team off much more often than the refs though

It’s because Wilder is a winner, it’s as simple as that.

Sean Connery’s scene from The Rock springs to mind, losers whine and make excuses, while winners go home and fuck the prom queen......

Don't think Wilder needs to criticize the Officials, if he was constantly moaning about the officials it would work against him and the club. TV is doing that esp with VAR, if it continues like this it won't be long before the authorities decide to sort it out, either scrap it or change to something like they do in cricket, each side has one VAR decision to called for by the captain to the REF, wether it goes in your favour or not thats it...it's done for the rest of the game for that team

We are probably the most honest ethics wise club around . Wilder calls it as it is.
If we are poor he says so. He says he'd drop players who dive. His rational at todays VAR blunder was exemplory .
He's respected by the players for telling it straight as with hendos only get mistake so far. The team reflects that honest earn your respect attitude and its a huge part of why we are doing so well.
