People believe what they want to believe, and they still will, 1/2 a million? Be interesting to see what people have to say now though, won't it.

As you say people believe what they want but you would hope that Wilder has built enough faith from us that if says it, it is so.

Never believed it was a McCabe deal because Wilder doesn't appear to be that sort of bloke. Never believed the figures bandied about because someone can pluck a figure out of thin air and stick in a paper, doesn't make it true.

In all fairness since the bloke was found not guilty what reason is there for this making column inches? Bloke who didn't do anything wrong signs for club. Wow, what a headline.

Personally I know only look at the footballing side of Evans, I lost interest in the sensationalist headlines a long time, but also, he didn't get any real issues when he was at Chesterfield.

I'm not even interested in the Finances and the deal which he signed on, but its good that Wilder makes statements like that. People will either believe it or they won't. Pig fans will take their usual jibes, but cheap shots stick in the mind. A reason why i've given it back to them big time in this last week. I don't forget the shite they gave us in 2012.

So on with the football. Wilder's comments really reflect what I've said, really believe that Ched has that ability to get goals for us and he's right about his work rate. Ched's never going to get invited into Mensa, but as an athlete, he's clearly worked hard to add a more physical side to his game. If he comes in and works hard, he will get goals.

What I like about Wilder's comments though, he states that Ched wants to be here. Not for money, not for any other reason, but to do well for the club. Again, talking up Wilder, but this is what he brings in. Whether its a player from League 2 Hartlepool or a player from perhaps more glamorous clubs (in a few years), Wilder puts everyone on the same level and seems to make people absolutely clear on what he wants. If they don't show that they want to play for the club, they won't be here.

What a change this is from the 'Robson to Adkins years'

After what he went through it was ever about money and never will be.
It is simply about trying to give his all to the thing he knows best and maybe gain back respect from those who still doubt and are not willing to give someone a second chance.

I was not keen on the signing, mainly for the fact my main memories of Evans was when he was our record signing and seemed to spend 2 seasons in the Championship looking like Jordan Rhodes does for the pigs....

But if Wilder thinks he can make it work, then I've total and utter faith in that guy. So quite happy with it

As I stated at the time. This is a win, win deal. If it comes off, great. If not, its cost us buttons in championship terms? I predict that Evans, when he gets his chance, will be the signing of the season.

Too early to say that for me....we haven't seen the rest of his signings yet;)

Good to see that you are coming around to a more reasonable position then. I saw the same as you - two rather indifferent first seasons in the Championship - but under a different style of manager and in a poor team that was in decline. I also saw what happens when a good man manager gets the best out of him in a footballing side - in his third season - and maybe I'm hallucinating but in all the years of watching Sheffield United I think Evans performances that season were up there amongst the best I've ever seen. He wasn't just good - he was outstanding to the point of being unplayable by the opposition. He simply devastated teams. OK, that was League 1 - we know. But, to me anyhow, you can't look back at his three seasons here and only judge him on the first two and ignore the third, surely? That's being very selective. You have to take the whole thing into account - and if you do that then I think any reasonable person would say..."there are some question marks - but it's worth a shot".

Very true.

I never liked Ched, thought he was on the verge of being our worse signing in recent decades BUT I also admit that for those final few months he was the best striker we've had since Brian Deane. He was so good he was making us a 1 man team, he was so much better than league 1 standard it was rediculous.

I still say that potentially Ched is easily the best striker at the club. Although as we all know potential usually means nothing however Wilder has this knack of getting the best out of his players, so will be really interesting to see if Wilder can work his magic.

Pretty much quashes the 500k rubbish then.

The fee was undisclosed and remains so.

I remember when Evans came in the first time. That fee was initially undisclosed. It was described in the first season as 3 million when people complained about the sale of the Kyles, to show we were investing, and a much smaller amount when people were pointing out that Evans hadn't scored for 20 games and was rubbish.

James beattie was our record signing ,still is

When I first heard the news that he was coming back, I wondered why the club would want to attract the inevitable unwanted attention. The timing was wrong too, although it was leaked.

But the more I think about it, the more I think it's a no-brainer really from a footballing and financial perspective.

As Cerberus says, we can't judge him under poor managers - if we did that, Coutts would have been binned a year ago. There's no guarantees but after what Ched has been through, resuming his football career will be like winning the lottery for him. Apart from the pigs, I can't see any problems from opposition fans at all. Wilder is the gift that keeps on giving.

The really positive thing in the interview is Wilder saying that he's looked Ched in the eyes, and is convinced that he wants to be part of what's going on at the Lane. He has gone out of his way to take responsibility for this signing, and given the risks involved in any signing, that is a huge personal investment that CW has made. That is impressive.

The bit that excites me is the prospect of seeing Evans feeding off passes from Fleck and Coutts - he had KMac back in the day but not much else from a creativity perspective.

My favourite bit was when Wilder said we left League One via the front door.

Apart from the pigs, I can't see any problems from opposition fans at all.
I think that's a bit naive, but fuck em. Its just BANTZ.

I'm disgusted at all the lies Chris has obviously told in that interview, how dare he tell us Ched didn't cost over a million quid, how dare he lie to us and tell us Ched isn't on £20k pw, and how dare he tell us he had everything to do with the signing!! I don't believe it, it's ridiculous to think that our manager had any say, or knows anything about a player that's going to be playing in his team!!
It's a joke I tell you, a joke!!!!

Very, VERY pleased to read this. I said originally that if Wilder is 100% on board with this then I'm happy to trust the man who's just worked a footballing miracle (CW, not Ched...yet ;) )

As I and many others have said, if CW can "Do a Coutts/Freeman" on him over summer, and get him back to his best, then he will be a real asset to the team.

In Wilder we trust. Completely and totally :)

Even after all his obvious lies!!!!???:rolleyes:

Give this lad the same number of goal scoring chances that Billy had this year and they will need to award 2 golden boots
