Wilder has too much respect for officials

I remember listening to the Peter Crouch podcast with Mike Dean as a guest and he said Chris Wilder was the most respectful manager.

No other manager is as respectful as Chris but we still seem to get shafted week in week out.

I think his approach is better than ranting like Warnock did, that just turned officials against us and never got a result overturned. It may be that Wilder won’t get to put his points across till the season is over but it may mean we get a better rub of the green in the long term.

I'd rather he was this way, we know we're always going to be up against it, the officials are biased against us, whether thats intentional or not is not the point, its probably natural as they don't know us. It does mean that every little thing will get punished and we can also consider ourselves unlucky with bad decisions. If a bad or harsh decision is going to go against a side, it will most likely be us.

But it just means that we have to be better at so much more - staying onside, not diving in, not getting involved, making sure of our chances when they fall.

We can't blame the officials for today or against Newcastle, we just have to be better at our craft

I thought the same, after the game I was thinking "I wish Wilder would just say something like 'we've not quite managed to overcome Arsenal and the refs ineptitude'" but he'd just get a fine, and it builds a reputation of us being bitter.

Brian Clough was the same. He hated players surrounding referees and haranguing them - and in turn referees loved coming to the City Ground, where they were treated with respect by the staff.

I can understand your point but at the same time don't agree. Kicking off at officials won't turn them against you as they're supposed to remain impartial. They're refereeing a game of football. A foul is a foul regardless of whether Warnock calls the ref a tosser.

Wilder needs to bring these decisions to task more often. He needs to ask for the Hawkeye pictures (or someone does) and make veiled digs. He needs to scream from the touchline when there is a questionable foul. Be in the fourth officials ear. He's mentioned us being too nice regards fouls and not looking for them so for me, play them at their own game.

And this isn't a criticism of the manager either.

Believe me, Chris is not slow to criticise the officials at pitch side. I usually sit in the SS behind him and have regularly seen and heard him giving the officials a gobful.

It's admirable, unfortunately it doesn't seem to do us any favours, and by that I don't mean preferential treatment, I mean just fair and balanced officiating.

Whilst I don't want him to turn into a ranting lunatic, or see our team become diving shithouses, the time of being too nice might be at an end.
