Early judgement is that he’s done a good job in the market with what he had available.

The test for me comes when we pick up key injuries and suspensions.

He stumbled upon Souttar and Anel as a pair due to JLT getting injured and we’ve looked ridiculously solid as a result. If JLT was available I think he’d have persisted a while longer.

He’s also managed to rest a few and use peripheral players whilst getting 6 points from the last 2 games.

We’re still very light when it comes to goals from forwards but I don’t think this was Wilder’s fault.

There’ll always be the view that we’re up there because of the budget relative to others but the rebuild job has been a good one.

This is from me, who vocally didn’t want him back because I thought it was a parochial decision and not a football one.

The Chris Wilder we reappointed last year, was a Chris Wilder who had learned from some of his mistakes in management and got better for it.

While we could have appointmented other good managers at the time, I'm not sure any other realistic manager we could have got, would have been able to get last year's squad back on their feet.

Look what happened with appointing Slav after our last relegation, most of our players from that team were still down on their knees when Hecky came in and picked them up.

Stumbled on 😂😂😂 Funny how that phrase is used when he does something good.

I thought the same mate. It’s not like Wilder was cleaning his loft, found Souttar under a pile of old jazz mags and asked if he fancied playing centre half. He got him in on loan as a centre half to play - center half.
He didn’t stumble across him at all.

I do get the reluctance from many to give Wilder praise and there is certainly a long long way to go, but what he has achieved so far this season given all the background nonsense, is pretty impressive.

I was very dubious about him coming back but he talks sense, (yes it’s a little bit ‘oh look at me I stood on the terraces and I understand the ‘punters’ at times) he knew what needed to be done and he has done it - so far.

Knew we'd come good this season, he just gets it and we're lucky to have him.

A few haters are looking silly now 🙂
I said at the end of last season that he was out of his depth. Now we’re about a fourth into the season, I will gladly say I was wrong. How he deals with potential major injuries will determine if this season is ultimately successful, but he’s been impressive so far.

Gerrim renewed!

I'm of the view to quote the great philosopher Winston Wolf - "let's not start sucking each others dicks quite yet"

Like you, i wasn't enhamoured with the appointment as I wasn't convinced he'd learnt enough self-awareness and emotional intelligence since he was last here.

The jury is still out for me until like you say we've hit a bad patch and/or we play some of the top teams.

It's looking good so far and he seems to have put together a decent looking side, but until we hit adversity we won't have a full picture of what this side and manager are truly about!

I was talking to a Boro fan at a works event the other day and he said “is Wilder still a prick who thinks the whole purpose of the club is to feed his ego?”.

I don’t think they liked him!

Indications are he's evolved from that episode, but I still have reservations what will happen when things stop going our way...

Until then I'm going to not get carried away....

I have been delighted with the change in management style we've seen from Wilder since the start of the season.

In the past, he has been (fairly) criticised for his use of substitutions. 'Old' Wilder had few weaknesses, but he was stubborn with his choices, reluctant to rotate his squad, and didn't tend to proactively sub on fresh players before the momentum of games had a chance to shift against us. These past few games have been the opposite of that, with us now tending to use 4 or 5 of our subs well before the end of the game. Today, I thought the freshness of the subs visibly helped us see out the game superbly without sitting back.

I'm sure many of our fans, myself included, were apprehensive when CW returned because we saw in him a manager who may have found his distinct style and would struggle to change with the times. To me, this significant shift in the use of subs is a brilliant sign that Wilder, Alan Knill, and the rest of the support staff still have the capacity to learn and adapt as the game evolves.
