Can we start talking about Saturday please, if I dwell on last night any longer I'll go insane through the frustration.

Wigan don't seem to be doing well away from home and have a few injuries.

Sharp in for Clark the only change up for discussion?
He's been playing Clarke for weeks to try and get him a goal, why would he drop him as soon as he gets one ?

Think Clarke will start again with Davy boy. Sharp ("our top scorer - he must start") will be on the bench. Same starting 11 as last night is the sensible thing to do.
Go at them with the same attitude as last night and we will not be far away.

I wouldn't drop Clarke or McG after last night, thought they were both excellent.

I'd be tempted to bring in Johnson for Stevens, just because i think he's given everything the last two games

Potentially change the wing backs on both sides. Freeman looked tired towards the end last night.

I think it might be Sharp and Clarke up top Saturday. McG needs a break as well if we want to keep him fit
Maybe Woodburn might have to come in, Duffy appeared to signal to the bench about his hamstring, most likely just cramp though. Could Fleck do the ‘Duffy’ role !?

Think Stevens has been one of our better players this season tbh. Definitely improved his final ball and is getting into the box more.

Should have tested the keeper in the second half, the one clarke fizzed across that he ran onto.

Johnson offers more than Washington and I can’t believe he hasn’t come on in the last two games after his last cameo off the bench. That’s one thing I’d utilise more.

Freeman is absolutely fucked at such an early stage of the season that’s it’s a tad worrying, especially with Baldock been out injured.

Sharp has to start for me, he’s vital in us winning games of football, especially on our home patch. I’d love to see those stats!

I don’t know how much we work on fitness in training but to me it looks like we need to work more on it if we are to carry on with this system with these players.

Just after an hour in last night, a lad behind me said "Freeman doesn't look fit enough". Everyone fell about laughing. He'd probably run a half marathon (mainly in 70 yard sprints) at that point.

I would imagine Freeman, Stevens, Basham and O'Connell are all near the top of the list of Championship players in terms of distance covered per match. They are all supremely fit.

(Although I do think he picked up a knock towards the end last night)

I agree . And even though he did miss a relative sitter in the first half he's been rock solid for some time now . Enda's definitely one that can now be accurately defined as ' championship class ' .

If that’s the case then he needs to shut crosses down quicker, get closer to his man quicker and not dive in letting the opposition past him very easily when he does get close. All these are not down to him not wanting to do it but purely down to fitness levels. With the workload our wingbacks get through they could both do with a rest every now and then, especially Freeman. Stevens looks very strong at the moment though so he’s fine to carry on.

I have no idea about the fitness of our wing backs. But the logic would be, it's the most endurance sapping position and to keep Stevens and Freeman at their best, it would be sensible to rest them at times. My only caveat, would yo be, not rest both if them at the same time, like we against Birmingham. While nothing is guaranteed, I think Sharps presence would have given us the best chance of scoring a first half goal yesterday, with all the great positions we got into and as a rsresu more likely to go on and win the game. Sharp starts for me, even if hard on Leon.

Agree with this and I think Johnson should be given more time as sub, obviously dependent on how the game is going.

Not sure but as much as I'd like to keep playing our strongest team, we have to be realistic

It’s not as simple as that.
Clarke causes more problems for central defenders than Sharp with his physicality, hold up play and flick ons.
With Sharp on the field instead of Clarke we wouldn’t have had as many corners or been in as many great positions.
Agree though that Sharp is more dangerous in front of goal and more likely to score if he gets the chance.

Baldock in, Freeman looked tired. Sharp should start but won't. Woodburn on the bench please, If he's half the player he's meant to be he must be able to offer more than Washington and only option we have to replace Duffy. Our bench is too defensive, get Lunny on there too he gives us a bit of legs and in a situation like last night is a better option to bring on than Coutts imo.

Is it completely out of the question to start Leon and Billy togther?

Mcgoldrick has been brilliant but a rest for him wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, considering how injury prone he has been at previous clubs.

Also rest Freeman for Baldock. Freeman can freshen up and Baldock needs game time.

Squad rotation is key to a successful season.

No where near as creative or as skilful on the ball.
Duffy is an ex winger, so dribbling with the ball is second nature for him.
Although got to admit his assist against Derby was very Duffyesque and showed he is capable.

However I think anyone playing the attacking midfielder role should be looking to score more goals, we rely on the strikers too much. I expected Woodburn to be that attacking midfielder capable of scoring goals.
Duffy or Fleck hardly even shoot, their low goals return is the reason that they’ve not gone for big transfer fees.

The work that Stevens and Freeman are required to put in every game is absolutely astonishing.

Exactly, and who’d have said that last season? Just like Coutts did players can come good eventually.

This will definitely be a tougher game than last night. Without trying to be too much of typical Bladey Blade cap doffer, I like Paul Cook and the way he gets his teams playing.

Clarke scored last night which was good for him but will almost certainly mean our best goal scorer will once again sit on the bench Saturday.

I think if Sharp had played last night we would have been two up at half time and game over,

Yes agreed and at times they do need replacing. I think the lack of wingers in the system we play makes it hard for us to get out when we are penned in and it is asking a lot of the full backs to bomb forward at 75+ mins. The out ball to the striker in these situations often sees them having to play it back into the middle rather than be able to look out wide.

Think I start Baldock and Johnson on Saturday. Johnson could prob do 90 but think we’d have to replace Baldock on the hour unless his end product has improved.

Difficult to know what to do really.

Wigan - not scored in their last 6 away games bar 1 OG. Lost all 6.

Hmmm, can see how this will pan out

C'mon Blades let's batter them and stay in touch with the top !
