Why no trophy for finishing second?

the League Championship Trophy used to be awarded to the best football team in England - they proved that by playing 2 games against all their rivals (the best 20 odd teams in the land).

now it isn't, the Championship Winners are demonstrably not the best team in the land anymore. It is a misnomer by current usage of the word Champion. It's already a booby prize but the trend is to make things easier to win ... like exams at school, entrance to universities, and grades of degree once you get there.

There shouldn't be a trophy for second place, IMO the trophy illustrated should go to either Liverpool or Manchester City when they prove which one is the better.

Hard(er) but fair(er) or at least more accurate.

The odd thing is that teams get a trophy for winning the play offs but you don’t get one for winning promotion in 2nd place. Finishing 2nd is a better achievement than winning the play offs, hence it being a bit odd.

Individual medals for the players as a momento acknowledging promotion is fine, but a trophy should only be awarded to the winner of the division.

Think I'd rather have this fine old trophy. Awarded to the league winners for decades up to 1993, the list of names engraved on it are the history of English football, might be ours on Sunday.

A spectacular old trophy, the real Champions of England trophy. Unlike the shyte Premier League thing that they tried to model on the old European Cup
