Why isn't Chapman starting!?.

Give him a go instead of Done for me. Much as I think Matt Done works hard, his end product (IMHO) is negligible and has been more apparent in the last two games when we've needed someone to break the opposition down, create something out of nothing either for himself or others and put a chance away when it comes. For me, Done does none of this. I thought he had a poor game last night and wasn't much better last Saturday. As a result, I think Billy Sharp's effectiveness was affected as he was pretty anonymous last night and when he did get the ball it was usually out on the left wing. He needs to be in the box where he operates at his best and I feel that Done's ineffectiveness affected Sharps contribution.

Good man. Bonus points if you beat Deadbat to the Saturday report. :)
No chance
Last home v Peterborough which we won.
Concerning that the last away was Millwall when we went on this unbeaten run.
I hope our presence on Saturday is not an omen.

We'll miss what Done brings to the team, but we need better quality up top. He's going through a spell at the moment where he just can't score. Maybe a few games in the under 23's will help him back to his best? Chapman for me at Charlton

I think that front flip on his debut goal did it for him. That's got to be up there with private number plates and draping your jumper over your shoulders for pissing the gaffer off.

Why isn't Chapman starting?

Same reason as why Clarke isn't.

And he'll probably start on Saturday too. I get the argument that at home when teams sit back, someone with more guile, Chapman for instance, may be a better option to open them up but against the better teams that play more open football and try to build from the back, we need his pressing and energy.

Exactly, if it ain't broke........

Also, you could argue that Chapman has more potential impact coming off the bench against tired defenders than Scougal or Duffy potentially would if he was in the starting XI ahead of those two.

Or maybe being told to play in the stiffs after he's worked his tits off for us, done exactly what the gaffer's told him to do, come back quickly after a broken jaw, because he's going through a dry spell might piss him off a bit.

Should we not point out where we could improve out of fear of "sounding like Wednesday"?

I've got to agree, he deserves a start, he looks really promising. I think we should consider a 4-5-1 at Charlton with Chapman and Done playing as winger/strikers with Sharp as the point man and Clarke on the bench if a change is needed.

-------------Moore
EEL Wright O'Connell Lafferty
---------Fleck---Coutts
--Done---Scougall---Chapman
-------------Sharp

We saw enough of Done playing wide last season thank you very much. A complete passenger.

Leon is first in the queue. There is no longer a case for Runaround Done.

Allowing your views to be conditioned by the Pigs is part of the Bladey DNA. It's one of dozens of reasons why I'm a "Blade, not Bladey"

I think Chapman and Clarke will continue to get chances and there is an argument for one getting the nod over Done. I don't think Saturday is the time though.

The last 2 games haven't suited Done, Basham, EEL, Scougall etc. as the tempo hasn't been high on account of it being attack v defence and trying to probe to find a way through. Those players are all better (IMO) when the opposition wants to play too and there are bodies being committed and gaps to exploit. The last 2 games have needed players like Coutts, Fleck, Lavery, Chapman, Duffy (if he'd been fit) etc. to try to unpick the locks.

Oh right, and I thought he had been injured!?!?
Serves me right for reading everything Wilder says! I am silly.

Whether Runaround Done is pissed off doesn't figure high on my selection criteria, nor will it with Tufty.

The thought that we can't play the pressing game without him is ludicrous. It's Tuftyball, you either do it or you don't play.

The uncomfortable truth I'm afraid is.... brace yourselves .... he's not very good. That's it. Done and dusted.

I thought Lavery had some pace and looked tricky as well, when he came on

Grappler

I thought he was trying just a bit too hard with the multi stepovers. Understandable he ise eager to impress after a slower start than we all expected, but he needs to prove he can deliver too.

Getting back to the OP I think Chapman does deserve a start. A lot will depend on Duffy's fitness though.

On Matt Done as someone else has said the last 2 games haven't suited his game. Saturday should be different as Charlton will have to come out. I'm hoping that they are currently happier playing away from home because of the ownership situation at the Valley

That's your opinion. It's no more relevant than mine. It's what CW thinks that counts. Whether Done is pissed off does matter because CW has built a strong team spirit and pissing off players for no good reason doesn't help to foster that.

You're right that he's technically not what we need in the long term and I'm not going to be so condescending as to point out what Done has contributed to our unbeaten run as you've got eyes and you can see for yourself.

I thought Chapman was ace when he finally came on tonight, he really took it to Bury, and with his passion, he looks like a real Blade!!!
Just seems like he has that extra gear that the team need, and fuck me he's nippy!

Because we have a winning formula and there is no need to change!

No need to improve? The winning formula will be enhanced by better players. There are people, astonishingly, who can run around a lot, try hard and play football as well.

Chapman deserves a run of starts on performance alone, but as ably pointed out earlier in this thread, he's not needed in the 1st XI from a tactical point of view. As Done's form continues to drop, you'd think he would get benched for a while, and Chapman would be one of the names on the shortlist to replace him, but I think it's clear that Lord Tufty is preparing to give Done's place to Clarke, who's cameos since returning from injury have been quite impressive. His playing style also fits the 3-5-2 that we're playing currently far better than Done.

I think dropping Done at this stage is completely fair. He has had ample guilt-edged chances to bury an important goal in the last few matches and hasn't took them. When you've put away 7 goals in the last 3 league games and one of your forwards hasn't got his name to any, well that just sums it up. He's got a good bit of pace and finds himself in the right place for a cross more than Sharp, (who is often more creative and runs at players) but it's not bore much fruit in this system, as it relies on our forwards and attacking mids to do some work with the ball.

Back to Chapman, he's looking better each game, has quite a bit of unlocked potential and I think if he's gonna be in our first XI, it'll be in the hole, however our lad Scougs might have something to say about that.

What is "his game"? We used to have this with Montgomery. I concede he works hard and tries hard. What other qualities does he have? At this point, those who thought Monty was anything better than a committed but limited trier, would respond by saying "tries hard, runs around a lot" in a dozen different ways.

Perhaps we could do the same with Runaround? Give me a minute, though, to get my surgical corset to avoid my sides splitting.

I wouldn't have said this after four games, but right now if Duffy's fit; he plays. No question.

Agreed, he's been one of our best players all season, but while he's sidelined it's Scougs all the way for me.

I think we should leave it be.
Having players of Chapman, Clark and lavery to come on and attack a team what's blowing out of its arse is a lethal asset.
