Why do you support Sheffield United?

It's my old dad, my uncles and older brothers fault, took me in 1962 at 5 years old and I did the crowd surfing ( before it was a thing ) to the front of John Street standing with my old dad's warning " don't you move you little twat until I find you after the whistle "
To my shame I had a daliance with the dark side when I was 15 because all my mates at school were pigs , but my older brother gave me instruction about what would happen if I kept going 😵‍💫🤣🤣

The kit, Currie and Woodward, the city, ever loyal through ups and Downs. Its the Downs us supporters should get behind the team however bad results or play. Get behind when winning is the easy part. Realistic we'll never be back to winning the 1st division, but hope is a strange ting, in dreams dreams come through. Being a blade 24/7 could also be a healthissue.

I was a little oik from Eckington who got into football late because everyone else in the house DESPISED football. My best mate at the time was a Wednesdayite and wanted me to support them, but after going to a game it didn't feel right, so I followed Liverpool because I thought Michael Owen was exciting... not something people often accuse Owen of being these days!

Then I went to the league cup semi at Bramall Lane and suddenly it did feel right - and I've supported United ever since.

So in summary, I feel more comfortable with my fellow glum pessimists, than a gang of deludamol-chugging tossers!

According to some on Twitter, I don’t support Sheffield United 🤷‍♂️

Well you sound convincing to me…..telling your stories about SU away matches all over the place.
By the way….missing you off Sheffield United Way….enjoyed your witty dry sense of humour.

Brought up in Sheffield and had to make a decision who to support around 1975 time.

So my choice was do I support Sheff Utd or Sheff Wed?
Family slightly more Wednesday than United but 1 uncle took me to the Lane and 1 uncle took me to Hillsboro.

Free choice…no pressure but quite an easy decision really.
In 1975 United were playing in front of 25K with Tony Currie and Alan Woodward as the star players.
Whereas Wednesday in 1975 were playing in front of 13K with David Sunley, Mick Prendergast and Brian Hornsby as their star players.

At school most of the kids supported United because around that time Wednesday were truly crap.

When Liverpool won the European Cup in 77…..always had an admiration towards them and always liked Steve Heighway.
So when we played Liverpool in the league cup in 78 I supported United but also really liked Liverpool.

We won 1-0 with a Gary Hamson goal abs I’ve been to most home matches since the 77-78 season.

Sometimes miss our fans from the 80’s, our numbers were low but we had some right nutcases and eccentrics.
Think the adversity of struggling in the lower leagues makes fans more loyal, angry and passionate.

I suppose recent and current events are a good test of loyalty. I said my bit earlier re why i'm a supporter.
Have to say I'm getting more and more disillusioned with football as time goes by - mainly because of the ridiculous amounts of money sloshing around.
I think I read on here that some of our younger players are on around 18k/week. Bonkers.
I much preferred football when teams were made up of mainly local/homegrown players with the occasional signing to improve the team.
Now whole teams are bought over a year or so. It's being ruined
