Not sure if I have the technical skills to make this work, but.....

.....compare and contrast this with our very own silky voiced and tonsorially tidy York correspondent. I would hardly know where to begin with what's wrong with the porky publicity person and his pronouncement.

Yeah but the 'MASSIVE' took 3K to QPR on a Friday night 🤣

Very few are going to have the vocal skills that are as smooth as galaxy chocolate, like our Hal 😁

I think you've got to just say "good on him" don't you?

We don't know anything about him or his background do we? He seems to pump out a bit of content so...

The reason we went down was due to poor signings up front (mainly brewster) resulting in us having strikers with no goal threat whatsoever, anything else crowds, injuries, covid etc is just complete bollocks

Stick the Che Adams and maupay in the squad instead of mcburnie and brewster and that team stops up easily

Hopefully we can bounce back, ignore the 2 years and we can just jokingly change the title of this to "Did Sheffield United go down?"

Hal covers the key points. I'd also like to mention our old bedfellow - momentum. As much as momentum was a talked about factor in our surge up the league, I'd say reverse momentum and our inability to arrest the issues behind this was a factor.

We finished the 19/20 season rather poorly to be honest and didn't score enough goals, relying too heavily on defence and the Cup Final nature of visiting these long forgotten big grounds. You are bound to lose this last point after a season. Novelty wears off.

The warning signs were already there. We did not heed them.

1. We needed more goals as these were starting to be hard to come by. I'd argue that not looking at the shape was an issue on this front even prior to injuries. Pushing back up to 3-4-1-2 should have been something to look at to address this initially before we even looked at other forward options. In addition it was becoming apparent that Lundstram had been a handy short term stop gap but a longer term approach was needed, his contract situation merely reaffirmed this. So we didn't acknowledge this and didn't arrest this issue. Note the term 'someone Like' but going for someone like Buendia would have been the right move. It reminded me of when Warnock made do with Tonge in midfield when it was patently obvious 1.5m on Koumas would have been money well spent. We made do. And in football if you stand still, you go backwards.

2. Once we looked to address deficiency in the squad we chose the wrong option. Look how few players Burnley usually sign. No point getting impatient and trying to do too much. A couple of starters, upgrades was the way to go. We went for more depth of Championship quality once more. We also should have known when to step away. Brewster at 23m was a huge gamble. There must have been other options in that range. One of them being keep your money and or spend elsewhere. By elsewhere this could have been elsewhere in the team. Didzy aside in the first season back, we weren't so profligate; we weren't creating chances. It was chance creation rather than execution where we were coming up short. We didn't arrest this issue competently. We also used just one loan for example and we're frequently short of midfield options yet still had a plethora of strikers and 5 left wing back possibilities (Stevens, Osborn, Lowe, Bryan, Robinson)

3. The impact of the injury to Jack O'Connell was never competently acknowledged or addressed. Far and above a striker, back up left wing backs, wingers pretending to be strikers etc, we should have got a replacement in. No point moaning at the board when you've spent all your lolly. It should have been top priority IF the same system was to be adopted. End of season form flagged that up. Options were there. We were never linked with Jake Cooper for instance. Very similar stature to Jack and also ventures forward a lot. This wasn't prioritised anywhere near enough and the potential options, as alluded to by the Prince, were far too narrow.

4. Worth a second point on the same topic. Once a system heavily reliant on Jack was going to be without him, thoughts should have turned to an alternative to at least be more expansive going forwards. For example, I remember suggesting at the time we look at 4-3-1-2 (hardly a radical shift) and even Heckingbottom tried a 5-2-2-1 formation by the end. To go so long flogging a dead horse did Chris no justice at all. He played 4-2-3-1 at Northampton. He hasn't been wedded to 3-5-2 his whole career but he somehow seemed in a state of paralysis when it came to setting up differently. Note setting up, not changing things when already in the shit during a game.

5. No fans didn't help a club like us but we did nothing significant to arrest the negative momentum. Rotating the same players in the same formation presented few new challenges to the opposition bad would have done very little to reinvigorate an already struggling team. Take Burke as one example - how often was he tried as an out and out winger? How often did we set up with Didzy in the hole? Conversely how many times did he go with McBurnie and Sharp despite the fact it was very clear these two together were wholly ineffective, both statistically and aesthetically.

Injuries took their tole as well but the clichéd lack of plan B was a huge disappointment. Plan B was more of Plan A. For Plan C, see Plan B.

I hope we have learned the valuable lessons this season has given us.
