Quite simply Chelsea are a better team than we are and on the night beat us 2-1. Simples! We go again on Wednesday. What is it these days............I can't get my hat on with some folk. Are we that precious that we can't just accept we are not as good as they are and they beat us fair and square?

The lack of context is astonishing. It's as if anything less than winning every game is unacceptable to them, the opposition are just walk overs and not beating them means we couldn't be bothered or the manager is useless and needs sacking immediately.

I think that it's fair to be critical, expect more from players and question Wilder's decisions. It's a discussion forum after all.

What I've never been able to get my nut around is the way some people deal in absolutes all the bloody time.

• McBurnie is shit and never going to be good enough.
• Norwood's legs have gone and he should be shipped out.
• Brewster will never score goals for us.
• Ramsdale is never going to improve and just isn't a good keeper

It's the same crowd who will have said Basham wasn't good enough for us in League One, the same who said Wilder should be sacked after 5 games of his tenure, the same who said a few games ago that last season was a fluke for Fleck in this division.

How's about accepting that players have form, that certain circumstances can affect their performances beyond their control, that Wilder can make occasional bad decisions but it doesn't mean there's anyone out there better placed to be our manager.

It baffles me that we had loads of posts and shoutbox shite last night desperate for us to start next season without McBurnie and Brewster, despite the fact that they've both scored goals at the level before and have oodles of potential. There's no pragmatism at all. Just tantrums.

I think in the Shoutbox, during the game, it’s fair enough. That’s what it’s there for and we all say daft things in the heat of the moment. I’m less impressed by those who start threads whilst the match is on. Watch the game FFS, we’re not going to have every game on TV next season.
I do think there are a lot of posters who want to ‘punish’ Wilder for making them sad when we lose. We waited ten years after sacking Warnock before we found a manager who could actually manage our club, I don’t want us to rush into that again.

Then there's another bunch who automatically form opinions based on their emotions. Really? They had a lot of ball and were up against a very hard working and disciplined team (mins the mistakes for the goals). They had to stay focused and take all their chances in order to win. So I would say that they actually did have to work for it. On another day the result could have been better.

What people don’t seem to realise is that teams don’t always want/need to steamroller us, they know that a goal lead is normally enough and they can see the game out easily when they get a goal up.

Some people should find another hobby in their lives instead of beinga football fan. Fishing or taking the missus to Meadowhall maybe. If you are doing something in your spare time that causes you to get abusive to another human being then that pastime just isn't worth it

Going online and calling someone a cunt or wanting them to die/suffer serious physical injury seems to have replaced going to a game and shouting “gerrimoffwilderhesshit”.

Tuchell and havartz both said after the game it was a tough game for them , the difference is they can keep the ball while we give it away a lot of the time ... but I guess that is why they spend 40,50,60 million for them !

he wasnt good either though was he i know 20m isnt a lot for a striker in the premier league and know the service isnt great but he doesnt influence a game at all definetly not at this level might be different in the championship which imo is his level but wouldnt bother me if he was sold

The major frustration for me, is that despite them being the better team, I still felt they were beatable. But we were our own worst enemy.

All night it was the same story, but especially in the 2nd half. We worked our arses off the win back the ball, kept it for a few seconds, and then misplaced a pass or just lumped it forward and handed it back to them.

We really were so so clumsy in possession, it was unreal. That in itself felt like a step backwards, considering how well we have played in the last few matches.

But as you say, we go again midweek and there are still lots of points to play for.

Agree with you there. I was watching the game and thinking Chelsea are really poor, but were worse in the night. We really could beat them had we played like we did 2nd half against WBA
We really did have something to build on with that performance.
I was just hoping we could avoid defeat and it would have kept the positivity alive.

I watch us play this season, and I swear at times we don’t believe we can break down defences/create opportunities/score goals. Maybe it‘s just the natural consequence of getting beaten week after week after week, but the fighting spirit has gone. We go side to side, from front to back, we dither around instead of crossing it - while the heads haven’t visibly dropped, I think the belief has largely gone. They’re proud blokes playing for a proud manager, and so we’re not getting thrashed, but I think deep down they know the season’s gone and they’ve not been up to it.

Chelsea were better than us last season as well, but we took four points off them and scored five goals against them.

Many teams are better than others, but the others win points against them with tactics, hard work and using the ball properly when you get it.

It just seemed like a fairly even game that centred on a couple of bad back passes, a couple of very close penalty shouts, one moment of poor defending from us and some solid defending and saves from them. They weren’t a million miles better than us, and we’re still missing a fair number of key players. I don’t think they ‘could have gone up a gear and scored more if they’d really wanted but chose not to’. A single goal lead is always vulnerable to a last-minute set piece or scrambled equaliser: if they could have scored again, they would have. Losing is disappointing; we need to improve; but we’ve been improving since the start of January, and I agree with most on here saying a bit of perspective is helpful.
