Why can't people just accept .................

that we were beaten, by the better team on the night; the better team on paper and by some distance the better squad overall. FFS, they are all out again ..... kin Wilder, what you doing? McBurnieeeee grrrrr you are shite; wrong tactics; wrong team selection; wrong refreshments at half time (ok I made that one up).

Quite simply Chelsea are a better team than we are and on the night beat us 2-1. Simples! We go again on Wednesday. What is it these days............I can't get my hat on with some folk. Are the days gone when you walk out of the ground cursing a rub of the green here and there but admitting to your mates and generally agreeing that they were the better team and deserved the 3 points? Are we that precious that we can't just accept we are not as good as they are and they beat us fair and square?

Thank fuck I don't sit next to some of the folk on here at the games............I'd be slitting my wrists after 5 minutes.
 



The major frustration for me, is that despite them being the better team, I still felt they were beatable. But we were our own worst enemy.

All night it was the same story, but especially in the 2nd half. We worked our arses off the win back the ball, kept it for a few seconds, and then misplaced a pass or just lumped it forward and handed it back to them.

We really were so so clumsy in possession, it was unreal. That in itself felt like a step backwards, considering how well we have played in the last few matches.

But as you say, we go again midweek and there are still lots of points to play for.
 
The football side of this forum would be redundant if we all did that. Nothing wrong with healthy debate and part of the package nowadays I'm afraid.

Mate, there's debate and reality. I'm all for healthy debate, but let's at least get some context to it. Chelsea gave us a lesson in keeping the ball, moving us around, knackering us out and clinical finishing. I'm disappointed of course, but I can accept that we got a spankin on the night.

You know how at the game, amongst the vast overwhelming majority of people around you who come to enjoy the game and support the team there is the odd negative know-all that gets on your tits?

Well, all those negative know-all’s gather together here, particularly on cess pit box during the match. So it’s like having a whole block of them around you all game.

They were the better side, no question. But it wasn't a spanking. It was another one goal defeat featuring a goal we gave them via an unforced error. Not for the first time. That's what's so frustrating.

And it's doubly annoying to lose by one goal when you play those two up front.
 
Football is a game of small margins.

Chelsea have far more talented, much more expensive players and dominated the game without creating much in the way of chances.

We were second best but could easily have got a point out of the game. Imho Brighton and Burnley probably would have.

Last night's game summed up our season.

Second best but still had a great chance to score which was badly missed and then backed it up with an avoidable defensive error.

Yes Chelsea are miles better than us, and so they should be. United put in a shift and bridging the gap is tough, but they do deserve criticism due to poor decision making, sloppy passing and all too predictable, ineffective play. We know they are better than that, so it is a valid criticism. Just because it was Chelsea doesn't mean we can accept a lowering of our own standards when it comes to the basics.

I agree that we were beaten by a decent team, but they didn't really have to work for it did they?

Wilder talks about 'not going out the back door' and games like that we are going out the back door because we aren't looking to pass through them, we are going long and it just doesn't work for us.

I won't moan that we've lost to Chelsea, it is what it is. But the manner of the result is something that I'm not comfortable with.
 
Its not about accepting a defeat that forum members cant accept its the pure frustration that we can see what is wrong but its not being fixed. Doesnt matter whether you are sat in the stand or watching it on TV we are all armchair managers (bit like back seat drivers :)) but when you can see simple mistakes being made time after time you just dont understand why the actual management team cant see it or put it right. Fact is both Chelsea goals were a mistake. Correct those mistakes in a future match and we win 1-0. Remove our lucky goal and we get a point. Frustration in the fact we could have got point(s) despite playing badly against a quality team.

It also doesnt help that every defeat now is like rubbing it in your face "you are going down". We've got this till May.

Its quite frankly a disaster and we all know we should not be in this position.

I'm staying positive for the FA Cup.
 
People worship football. They allow it to dictate far too deep into their lives and emotions. Grown men hitting super elation mode when we win, then we lose, and it's back down to the dark pits of hell.

Find a balance.

Wouldn't question for a second whether Chelsea are better than us, and I don't throw my toys out the pram over losing. The frustration is that even though we were second best we still would've walked away with a point were it not for our standard comedy moment. If you watch the teams just outside the drop zone, they really aren't far ahead of us in terms of play. They're miles ahead in terms of the catastrophic stupidity we pull out in every match. That's why they hold onto enough results to be a long way ahead. I'm not wound up because we don't have the quality that Chelsea do, it's because we keep shooting ourselves in the foot.
 
Too many games (10 in 35 days), too weak a squad (add up the injuries and the players who never play) and playing against a team who could comfortably rest players and still field an XI that should beat us. It was always a mountain to climb last night so soon after the emotional high of the West Brom game.

I don't think the attitude was bad, or the want to attack (I do think that was an issue earlier in the season). I just think it was too many games for a few of the players

Chelsea are a better team yes, but we don’t help ourselves by making basic errors, it’s still 11v11 at the end of the day.
 
I do and have accepted all season that we're up against it and that a relegation battle was on the cards from the beginning, I'm just not one who thinks you need to bang on about a disaster that hasn't happened yet. Of course it is still disappointing to see it happen.
I agree there are posters who go way over the top with their criticisms of Wilder and some of the players and although they'll often frame it with caveats of knowing the opponents are better or our team was bought on the cheap, I can't help but think their expectations are far too high. As a supporter I think it's my job to be positive rather than negative if I can, but I see a lot who seem to almost enjoy ripping into the team, the manager, each and every mistake.
Nevertheless I don't expect people not to say anything when they watch a game filled with errors and yet another loss. For me the frustration is the way we give the ball away with poor, simple passes. I don't accept that can't be better. Some players are performing far too poorly, no matter who the opposition.
Still, I didn't expect anything out of Chelsea and the target is to win most of the other games. (Which I still think we can do)

But that's why it is what it is.

It's that passion and emotion that makes it the global obsession.

I find how people get overly upset at Shoutbox during the game a bit strange at times tbh. It doesn't mean I agree with some of the comments but I just accept that some can get carried away with frustration in the moment.

I've often had a different view of aspects of a game the day after when my emotions are on a more even keel.

I see comments about bipolar fans and such like but isn't that just football the world over. Some can stay balanced in their views and don't get overly passionate, some seem to want to exude uber positive Bladey Bladeness, and others get carried away in the moment, sometimes to their detriment.

All I'll say is that so many people in the game, even those who think we don't have enough quality, are agreeing we're missing our fans more than anyone in the PL.

That will do for me.
 
Lots of valid comments on here. Of course I share the frustration with giving them the second goal; with getting crowded out, isolated up front and generally giving the ball away far too cheaply. Thing is guys, that's football. it happens to the best. Anybody see the Liverpool / Man City game yesterday?

These days the top teams not only out football you, they generally out run you, out close you down and out battle you. A few years ago the lesser side could often make up for their lack of skill by out fighting, running and battling the more skillful teams. You watch, nowadays most of the top teams will also out run the lesser opponent and win the personal battles.

That is basically what happened last night. Chelsea totally controlled the game and dominated possession to the point where when we did get the ball we were often out numbered, isolated on the ball or just generally didn't have options. They had options almost every time they had the ball. This type of play often leads to the lesser side getting knackered - which we were - and having to play rushed passes or just lump it up front as an out ball.

I agree, a rub of the green and we could have easily got a point out of that - and of course, that is where I'm disappointed too. But the law of averages says, when the most skillful team play like that and close you down, and go muscle to muscle with you etc, then they will win more often than not.

I'm still very optimistic overall. That side and that manager is a very very good Championship side and probably a bottom 6 prem side. We are not in the position we are in because of games like last night, we should have at least 9 more points on the board from some of the previous games where we were more evenly matched with our opponents..... the WBA away, Brighton, Fulham, Villa, Leeds games immediately spring to mind.

Looking forward to going to Lincoln and hopefully Accrington next season - we'll be reight! :)
 
I think that it's fair to be critical, expect more from players and question Wilder's decisions. It's a discussion forum after all.

What I've never been able to get my nut around is the way some people deal in absolutes all the bloody time.
  • McBurnie is shit and never going to be good enough.
  • Norwood's legs have gone and he should be shipped out.
  • Brewster will never score goals for us.
  • Ramsdale is never going to improve and just isn't a good keeper
etc etc etc

It's the same crowd who will have said Basham wasn't good enough for us in League One, the same who said Wilder should be sacked after 5 games of his tenure, the same who said a few games ago that last season was a fluke for Fleck in this division.

How's about accepting that players have form, that certain circumstances can affect their performances beyond their control, that Wilder can make occasional bad decisions but it doesn't mean there's anyone out there better placed to be our manager.

It baffles me that we had loads of posts and shoutbox shite last night desperate for us to start next season without McBurnie and Brewster, despite the fact that they've both scored goals at the level before and have oodles of potential. There's no pragmatism at all. Just tantrums.

It is annoying you are right .You know before kick off we will not score.BASICLY NO BILLY NO GOALS..
