I think GRUMPY means:

1. If he got us promoted twice, we would be in the Prem.
2. You might well, in those circumstances, then hold a relegation from the Premiership against him.

My fees are reasonable :)

Aha, thanks for the clarification fellas.

OK, the first one to vote for Morgan.

Nota bene;

if another manager is appointed, that will be the end of a relationship with SUFC for a man who has done little wrong and generally behaved with the utmost dignity vis a vis our club. That will be that, Morgan no longer a Blade.

IMHO it is the players who let Wilson down and the owners in not letting him have any decent players. In voting for others apart from Morgan you will be judging him too soon, he didn't really choose ANY of the players in his team did he?

That means you are acting like the Club's owners, you do realise that don't you?

So why do you think Morgan isn't a good manager, hair colour?

Nobody else in that list has had a fraction of the success he had.

Apart from Warnock of course who has had about twice as much promotion success as Johnson and seven times more than the next most successful candidates.

Whilst not quite squaring with 'Morgs no longer a Blade' (unless you're a fan it happens to 'em all!), a bit of sense spoken here by Vorpal imho.
Debates and posts on other threads bear out my reasoning (gut feeling and all that plus he aint done nothing wrong to warrant the stick he's received from some quarters).

I would hope that Morgan might be persuaded to go back to managing the reserves.

I don't think he's a good/bad manager, I don't think we'll ever really know because he certainly can't be judged on what he took over from. If he's being interviewed he should be judged on what he's achieved prior to this past 5 games IMO.

More I look at it, more I'm leaning to either Dean Smith at Walsall or Steve Davis at Crewe. Though I'd also be happy enough with McCall.

That, I'm afraid, is just the sort of sentimental, parochial nonsense that should play no part whatsoever in the selection of a manager.

What about this:

If Morgan is appointed, that will be the end of a relationship with SUFC for a man who has supported the Blades for 50 years, done little wrong and generally behaved with the utmost dignity vis a vis our club. That will be that, Pinchy no longer a Blade.

And that applies to others as well. We are Blades by birth and inclination, not because the club play our wages. That, with respect, is far more important than not upsetting Chris Morgan.

I would echo what Pinchy said, and add that on your argument you might as well appoint me as manager as, ift those are the criteria, my CV is better than Morgans's

1. I have a longer relationship with SUFC than Morgan (40 years as opposed to his 10)
2. I have done little wrong vis-avis the club and always behaved towards it with the utmost decency as opposed to Morgan who is the most sent off player in the club's history and has attracted much unwelcome publicity to it - cf the Hume and von Persie incidents.
3. As I have no record of managerial failure (unlike Morgan) it would be judging me too soon to say I would be a rubbish manager

Good point - I'd missed him in that list.

My point holds - we put too much importance on recent form, and opinion, and not nearly enough on objcetive evidence.

Excellent point - other than the Van Persie bit. Unless, like me, you are upset that van Persie got up?

Shudder to think what bath times would be like under Dazzer

So we have the Magnificent Seven lined up for the interview process. Who they are we can only speculate, We can only pray that at at the very least some of them meet the criteria of what the fans want. I would like someone who is energetic and who believes in a strong fitness regime and work ethic but above all has an eye for a good player with ability to control the ball as well as being able to pass it to his team mates. The new manager should be able to inspire his players, performance manage them on the field of play and some of them out of the club if they are not up to scratch. I would also like to see him set performance targets for the team, such as the number of points each month and at the end of the season. All those with the potential to score goals should have a season target indelibly printed on their brain. This just might encourage them to shoot more, nothing ventured, nothing gained. He should also be strong enough to stand up to the Board and Kevin McCabe to ensure that we do not lose our young players for nothing and that we do not repeat the dark days of past January Transfer Windows.

However you look at it, it's a bloody mess. I dont think Wilson did so badly and if any consideration had been given at the time he was asked to 'stand down' to who might replace him in the event we were not promoted then surely he would not have gone. Because now we are in the worst of all worlds looking for a new manager and apparently trawling the depths. Are any of the magnificent 7 better than Wilson? Really?

I'd like to see Pemberton with Morgan as number 2.
He took the kids to a semifinal with Manchester, now his challenge has to be to bring them through into the first team.

Keith Edwards its about time he put his money where his mouth is rather than being bitter about not getting the job before Warnock.

You my friend are living in a dream world
I agree with most of your sentiments but it aint going to happen

4. And you know jack shit about football (A definite criteria for any Blades manager):)

Who is the one person who voted for Morgan?

Is it you McCabe?

It's not a dream world. It happens in the real world just not at Sheffield Utd. One can live in hope!

For anyone that's interested, Skybet has KR at 1/1 this morning with Morgs at 4/1 and McCall at 9/2. Not sure what we are waiting for, probably KM trying to save money by leaving it til the day before the season starts to appoint a new manager!
