There was a lad behind us at Scunny (...who was doing my bloody head in... sounded like a camp Dale Winton and felt he needed to share the commentary. Just no...) who was berating Hendrie before he'd even touched the ball, despite some good showings pre-season.

Then there was Monty, "what's he going to do?" Erm... cross for our new signing to score perhaps?

It seems that regardless of what some players do, some fans just can't see past their hatred of them. Hatred might be a strong word, but the venom spewed towards some players when the chips are down is disgusting.

Arguably Monty and Leigertwood shared the honours for 2006/07. Hendrie probably got last years before moving on.

Who will this year's hate figure be?

Don't tell me some people will actually be grown up enough to... gasp... judge someone on the way they play that particular game and not decide before hand that they hate them?!

;)

Henderson should get some good abuse, by the idiots who think that he and Morgan have some kind of mutual hatred.

I think they share a mutual something... but I think it might be a bed rather than hatred looking at some of the comments :D They need to get a room already.

Forgot about Beattie as well... he got more than his fair share of slagging - which is more bewildering than most!

i think it will be keef this year, becuase at the moment we havent got an all out right winger, so if it stays like this, keef will be this right winger, and the scapegoat

Montgomery i reckon.

I can just imagine the howls of hatred at every missplaced pass

A camp version of Dale Winton; can anyone be more camp then the tango’d checkout champion?

I reckon the players that you have already mentioned (Hendrie and Monty) are likely to once again face the fans vitriol if they are given a sustained run in the side. Lee Hendrie’s alleged ‘big time Charlie’ complex rubs people up the wrong way, especially if he fails to deliver the goods on the pitch. Many are predicting a renaissance from the impish midfielder but I cannot see him fitting in with the new work ethic and I foresee another bench-warming pay-check player on the books for the foreseeable future.

Monty is at his best when he is chasing the ball; the lad is not very good with the ball at his feet and this is something that one has to come to terms with. Many fans cannot seem to do this and so he has faced some harsh criticism despite his long service and a couple of very good seasons. He will not turn into a ball playing midfielder and so if he is in the team next season he will continue to get his fare share of criticism. Luckily for us the lad seems pretty thick skinned and I would suggest pointing any doubters in the direction of the “opta” performance stats for a more reasoned appreciation of his contribution.

So far, they are both proving you wrong! :D, hope it continues...

Having seen Hendrie numourous times this pre-season, he looks hungry again, has been putting in plenty of effort and seems very vocal/friendly with his team mates. Could be a false dawn... but fingers crossed.

As for Monty... Well he scored from outside the box at Sheffield FC and made Hendersons goal on Saturday. Looks his usual hardworking self, but getting forward a bit more. Hopefully if he can stay properly fit (he played through some right stuff last year and wasn't very pleased with certain decisions from the medical staff!) we'll see him in form.

I hope that both players enjoy a successful season but they are hardly proving me wrong when the season hasn’t even started yet. I saw Hendrie against Stocky Park Steels and we thought the game passed him by completely, granted that is the only pre-season game I have been to.

I have no doubt that if Monty were playing against Sheffield FC every week he may well manage to break into double figures for the season.

For the record, I like Monty and fully appreciate what he brings to the team. But if you think he will become a midfield play maker this season I think you may well be suffering from acute pre-season optimism (not a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination).

I always do suffer from this affliction.

This year it may be that I've not seen any games yet due to holidays.

I'm too tired to go to Mansfield.

I may see how I feel for the rest though and get my possible "false optimism" going!

:D

Perhaps it was a bad choice of words. I meant, they are both showing no signs of the symptoms you described so far, which is a positive.

I don't think he'll become a playmaker, but so far, he's excelled more than Tonge in this area. When he broke onto the scene, he was good going forward and managed to regularly beat men on the wing.... If he just shows a glimmer of this again along with his usual reliable attributes, i'll be happy :)

I do have the usual misguided pre-season optimism, but not to the extent it sounded like :D

I’m very happy to hear that Monty has been turning in some good performances; as you say he was hampered by injury last season which was doubly frustrating following a fantastic season in the prem.

Nothing wrong with optimism foxy; I’d rather have someone with your outlook sat behind me then the negative muppets I usually get stuck with. Lets hope that our collective optimism is proved well founded as the season draws ever nearer (can’t wait!)

This seasons scapegoat will be ME First season ticket ive had so if ll goes wrong you can blame me as i will have jinxed everything

I reckon it will be Kevin McCabe! What say you BB??

Well i was predicting McCabe would invest in QUALITY players this time round, quality not quantity were the words from BDTBL.
My theory was based on the aquisition of 70% plus shareholding accumulated by McCabe and family/companies and the fact that the Blades have been touted in the market place for new investors for quite some time.McCabe is no fool and is well aware his investment would produce a bigger gain with the Blades in the Premiership. That along with this season will be the last of the parachute money convinced me. Alas my theory looks dead in the water.

The Blades can't even sign a wigwam can't be ! not that i rate Cotterill anyway.

So to answer yes blame McCabe.

Shame I couldn't put money on the outcomes of this one...

All too predictable.
