Forget tactics. Forget formations, xG, form, momentum.. forget all of it.

These playoffs won't be decided by who has the best stats or prettiest passing triangles.

It'll be decided by something far more raw... DESIRE.

This is about which set of players WANT IT MORE, who's prepared to run through walls, to go again after 90 mins with cramp in both legs, to throw themselves into blocks that leave bruises, because for some of our lads... this is EVERYTHING.

Look at some of our players.. Burrows, Cooper, Campbell, O'Hare etc, none of them have played in the Prem, this isn't just a set of matches.. it's a doorway. It's the kind of moment that can define careers from cracking the big time or ending up an EFL journeyman.

So the question isn't who's favorites but who's willing to leave everything on the pitch, who NEEDS it more, for these players, this club.. it has to be us.

It's about future, it's about pride, it's about legacy.

WANT IT MORE! That is all.

I agree and embrace the sentiment, but we’ve finished 14, 21 and 22 points above these lot even with our 3 game underpants-shitting session. We should be dispatching the lot of them. We won ELEVEN games more than Bristol this season. People can argue that the play offs “keep the season alive”, but no way should they be in with any sort of chance of going up over us.

Grab it by the bollocks, go in positive and take it to the lot of them. Fuck the past, fuck superstition, fuck Palace, Wolves, Burnley, Udders; we haven't been perfect, but we’ve been far better than any of the other three, we’ve already beaten them all and we have match winners in the squad. Attack attack attack.

I hate play offs as much as anyone, but if we’re ever gonna do it….

You're right, in that it seems bizarre that a team who finished 22 points below us has the same opportunity of being promoted.

However if we go into both legs thinking that it's our devine to go through, then we will get turned over.

Time for heroes to step forward and write their names into Blades history.Too many times in play offs all we had was a work ethic, some heart and not much else.
These games require players/player to take the game by the scruff and sprinkle it with some magic moments that win the game,to stand out from the ordinary and become extra ordinary,it's not too much to ask for, just for 3 games, rise to the occasion somebody and win promotion, single handed if necessary.

Wilder needs to stick this on the dressing room wall

Just accept it as it is. who knows next time it happens to us we might be the team in 6th and thankful for the opportunity

Hecky had Bristol under the cosh on their own pitch for a large part of the game, expect he will be giving Chris the lowdown on their set up some time today.
Coventry struggled to put away a very ordinary Middlesbrough side yesterday, and it could have gone either way for long periods.

coventry are the danger team for me theyve got momentum and i expect them to dispatch sunderland and we should have enough to see off brizzle united v coventry final for me

Tactics and the players to play within those tactics will make a huge difference.

Of course its a given that the desire has to be strong, but controlled in the right way.

I just want us to be professional, play the game and not the occasion. On paper, we're good enough, so no need to get involved in the emotion. Burnley's approach against us a couple of weeks ago is a decent template to follow.

I don't agree with the play offs set out like the are. I feel it's much fairer to do the relegation/promotion play off style v bottom PL clubs...

However!!!

Look how far ahead the top 3 are this season, and last season too. If Play offs weren't here, teams from Sunderland down to about 15th/16th will have had nothing to play for since about February.
Removing the play offs would remove the competitive edge of the league.

Yesterday we had 5 teams fighting for the final 2 play off spots, on the last day.

If the play offs remain, they need a bit of a rejig to give advantage to the higher placed teams.
Extend it to 7 places with 3rd place fast tracked to the final or something.

If you want to go REALLY drastic. Give a goal head start for every 5 or 10 points gap 😂
At 22 PTS higher, let United go to Bristol with a 2 goal headstart due to points accrued

Got to disagree for once. I think this will come down to the team with the calm heads, right tactics and selections/substitutions. The desire should be a given but not to the point it chucks a game plan out of the window.

We’ve had a season of grinding out results and that approach worked initially but let us down eventually with a poor finish of LLLWLWD with Wilder going on about our pashun in that seven game period.

As I’ve said all season we need to be more professional, tactical and skilful in our approach. Yes, blood and guts plays a part but it shouldn’t be the be all and end all, modern day football has changed and requires more tactical nouse as well as the desire to win.

I think it’s serial league wher if 3rd is 14 points clear of 4th play offs are cancelled and 3rd goes up

Yeah you can chuck points totals into that bin as well.

Still lost to Plymouth note recently than us.

Truth is there is no Play Off team whizzing in from afar this year.

Sub 70 points is rank as well for 5th and 6th. It would have got you 8th last season.

Yes we don’t carry any advantage per we, but the fact we’ve won so many more matches and accumulated so many more points show that we are the superior team.

We just have to play some way to our potential and prove that.

Desire should be a given with what’s at stake. But we absolutely don’t want that boiling over into “pashun”, we need clear heads and professionalism. It’s no place for hotheads. The quality of our players compared to all the other teams should take care of the rest.

Keep the play offs as they make the season so much more exciting for loads of teams and fans right up to the end...

BUT what about this rejig:

6th plays 5th at 5th's ground
Winner of this plays at 4th's ground
Then play 3rd at a neutral venue (different venue for each division to make it more interesting)

Keeps the season alive but is more meritocratic.

The only slight problem with that is the team that finishes 3rd would have about 2 weeks without a game.
