I think we are going to notice the difference in not having Clarke who constantly chases their defenders down and defends from the front. I am not sure Brooks will have the same effect.

Omar Bogle , Mendez-Laing or any of the others who've been mentioned on here but gone elsewhere.

Missed out again, eh? How dare Tufty and his experienced coaches not recruit people 'mentioned on here'. They must be fantastic because other clubs have signed them and other clubs always get it right.

Only a few days left to sign Every Fucker, as I "mentioned on here" some time ago.

Think on, Tufty. No missing out, now.

Sorry. Our 'think' tank has decided he's got to play. He's the £150m and not a penny less Golden Boy who (whisper it) despite his obvious potential hasn't actually achieved a great deal just yet.

Now he's first name on the computer-generated team-sheet so he can play really well, the evil chairman can sell him at a gross undervalue (anything less than a world record fee) and we can do what we do best: self-entitled, self-indulgent vitriolic drivel. Then we'll all be happy and carefree.

where's Matt Done when you need him?

Chris Wilder revealed David Brooks is on the verge of making his first Championship start for Sheffield United after describing the youngster as the "biggest positive" of their Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City.

On a night where Wilder attributed United's 4-1 defeat to "naivety", he admitted the youngster had thrust himself into contention for a prominent role when Derby County visit Bramall Lane this weekend.

Brooks, aged 20, caused City's defence all manner of problems during the second round match, prompting Wilder to admit there was no point in downplaying his ability amid reports of Premier League interest. "I'm not going to mug people off and pretend he isn't a talent because he quite clearly is," the United manager said. "I thought he was the biggest story for us out there, he twisted their full-back all over the place and deserved a goal for his efforts.

"We've known all about David for a long time now. We spotted him in the academy and had him working with us all through last year. He was unfortunate not to play more then but there was never any doubt about what he had in his locker. None whatsoever."

Asked whether Brooks had done enough to force himself into the team which hosts Gary Rowett's side on Saturday, Wilder responded: "We've got to manage him properly and he's put in a lot of work out there. But, yes, he is clearly in our thoughts."

United, who Wilder admitted could make "one or two new signings" before the game against County, posed City plenty of questions until Islam Slimani scored a quick-fire brace following Demarai Gray's opener.

Caolan Lavery reduced the deficit during the closing stages before Ahmed Musa added City's fourth. "I'm not going to pat my players on the back for losing a game," Wilder said. "Because we don't like doing that. I thought we were well in it until some naivety cost us. We've got to learn from that"

A mixture of tactical genius and music hall comedy on here tonight...

Sharp is lost playing as a lone striker. Understand that, then plan accordingly.

Sharp has looked lost playing up front as a two. However when we get around the opposition box, that's when he comes alive and can make a difference, up until that point he's a waste of time.

Nightmare scenario for me is Ched and Sharp. Neither move, press the centre halves and generally stroll around the pitch unless the ball is within 5 yards of them.

The new signing CW has lined up hopefully

Tbh, on current showing none of them look ready to partner BS

Brooks is not a striker for me

No Clarke

Lavery and Ched not fit/ready/good enough currently

I don't think Brooks is a striker but I think it allows for the team to evolve and be better when we lose the ball, which Wilder alluded to last night.

It's a tough decision, but of the strikers available, I think only Lavery will chase defenders down and work hard, but his end product is generally poor, a bit like having a Border Collie on the pitch.

Sharp can't really play the lone striker role, so maybe pushing Duffy and Brooks up behind him is the best/only option?

I think we are strong all over the pitch, but with the exception of Sharps movement and finishing, we have absolutely nobody who will cause problems to defences in the Championship. It is our biggest area of weakness and I would guess addressing the problem is going to be easier said, than done :(

I dont want Brooks playing with his back to goal, I don't want to see him too wide or dropping too deep to pick up the ball either.
He's our most dangerous player at the moment, put him in the most dangerous areas.

Careful.

When I suggested we need to ship 3 of our strikers out (Hanson Lavery and Clarke) and bring in 2 (significant) upgrades to replace, the experts had this down as weakening the squad !!!!!

McNulty & Done have left, looks like Hanson is likely to leave. Evans isn't ready, Clarke is suspended. Feel we are just a touch light in forwards.

Most definitely.

Quality over quantity ???

Sharp aside, we are light. Ched may come through, he might not. Option off the bench as it stands.

The others, IMHO, won't hack it, and leave us lacking quality.

Wilders faith in Clarke (and the Sharp / Clarke combo) is misguided. IMHO.

We need 2 new strikers. At least 2 must make way and move on.

Can I just check that the winner of this poll actually gets to start on Saturday? Or is this like one of those 'public consultation' things where the views of the consulted public are listened to and then ignored?

Fair point that. But on the evidence so far we haven't got anyone to partner him.

Maybe get EEL on loan!

I'd like to think Brooks has done enough in the cameos to partner Billy, his movement and creativity is there as is his fitness.

In this scenario wilder could play both Duffy and Brooks in behind Billy, something which could work away from home, but he might want something different at home

Lavery must be ahead of Ched fitness wise but perhaps needs more games and cameos to get confidence up.

However, perhaps the experience of Evans will win Wilder over even if the fitness isn't there

I don't like the option of Sharp on his own with 2 AM's as he will be isolated. He's a poacher and goal scorer and isn't suited to leading the line. Evans and Lavery are hardly inspiring but better than 1 up top.

How about giving Lafferty a crack? Seems to me to have the best shot of anyone in the squad! Just a thought as he's not doing owt at the mo.

So…. Who would you like to see play alongside Sharp at the weekend?

I’d just about go with Lavery from what we have. Although Brooks impressed more against Leicester, I think Lavery gives us a better shape, pressing from the front etc. and is a more natural fit for the role alongside Sharp. But if it’s not working, we always have Brooks and Evans waiting on the bench.

and why not.. ? :D

Not Brooks as he's gone.

Lavary for me as Cheds still some way off .

I'm fed up of these players who come here, steal a wage, add nothing to the team, then get their contracts terminated by mutual consent and leave the club.

Can we sacrifice them during a half time satanic ritual rather than just let them 'make way and move on'?

I was advocating that for SemiPro for many years...
