As the cameras panned in on our bench the commentator mentioned what a strong squad we have and it,s not the first i have heard this.
In reality we have Peck,Gus Cal Ohare and Riedewald who you could say would get in most sides in the Championship plus ,if fit,Arblaster and maybe Coops.
The rest is made up of promising players like Brookes and Seriki who are no more than that. Then we have the ageing Ings and mee plus the tripe brought in by Selles.
A lot of work to be done in January because this squad aint what people say it is.

Our squad is good but the problem is the balance. We have 11 decent starters but they dont fit a suitable system.

(Best 11 starters fully fit)

Cooper

Seriki Tanganga Mee McCallum

Arblaster Peck Davies

O'Hare Hamer

Campbell

We have a terribly bloated squad which significantly lacks any identity.

The panic buys at the end of the trf window are coming home to roost.

Any manager with half a brain knows we need to shift 6-10 players this window and bring in at least 3-4 of good quality and in the positions needed.

Players that need to go regardless of if they arrived recently or not:

Ogbene - cancel loan
Barry - cancel loan
Mcguiness - loan
Tom Davies - release
Cannon - loan
Chong - loan
One - loan
Mattos - loan
Hamer - fee (while we can still get something like decent)
Ings - release

10 players which shows how shockingly poor our last two windows have been …

Then rebuild from there

This is a massive window for wilder bigger than any he’s previously faced … loads out and quite a few in are required … signings that change the identity of the squad

We have a pretty deep squad with flaws that we don't really have a in house answer for right now.

If we had a fully fit squad our bence would be one of the strongest in the league in terms of quality all round.

If we can sort out the loans that have completely flopped we will be even stronger. Nobody has been thinking about Barry much at all for example when in most sides that loan would be at the very least on the bench

Without going all innuendo a few inches the other way and Ings is onside for the goals against both Wednesday and Pompey, although he should have scored in the first half against Norwich, he wasn't at fault as to to why that game was drawn and managed to get on the score sheet. He is a proven goal scorer when fit and with him only having until the summer on contract it would be a bit daft to pay it up early, worst case scenario it brings some experience to the dressing room and some how he is still only 33. If we could get him anywhere near the lethality of his time at Southampton, it would be the best free signing of all time. With Cannon you would be rotating him for Ings, they are channel running strikers, Bamford playing deep to put them through. The rest bar Hamer (talented but agreed if fee is right move on) are difficult to work out what we have there

Bit harsh on Chong. Looked decent to me in the few appearances we've seen him.

We have a squad ful of squad players, with very few ‘would walk into any team’ lads

Last year Gus Cooper Vini early season poss burrows would have

Don’t think any of ours now start in any of the top 3 sides, closest Peck & Bamford ?

Cal been best player so far but gets dropped for hit & Miss Gus

Quality not quantity needed in jan

Could have just ended that post here. Lots of players but struggle to really work out what best team we put out collectively.

Gus and Cal being a highlight of this.

Championship player of the season was missing and the team as a whole looked better for it.

I wouldn't be against sticking to 442 that we played a few weeks back and reinforcing to suit.
