Who must we hold on to

I get where you're coming from, but there is no one else in our squad who can perform the same role at this moment in time (Sander hopefully will do in the future but he's not there yet). Norwood is very important to us defensively as well - he's often the one staying furthest back and helping out Egan when JOC and/or Bash have gone forward. He's been poor by his standards after the restart, but so have others. The difference is that Ollie doesn't go hiding and still tries to make the forward pass as oppose to the easy option. Many would do well to remember where we were before Norwood came in - Lee Evans/old Lunny/Ryan Leonard and going nowhere fast. It's an important position in our system and you only need to look how we faded after the Coutts injury in our first season back in the Champ for proof of this.
If we can sign an improvement then fair enough but I can't see where we'd get one without spending an extortionate amount.
Very fair points but we also want to push on and improve!

On a sliding scale, JOC is the one I would keep hold of above all others, then Egan, then Fleck.

One thing I think people are forgetting is that given how much we rely on being a superbly disciplined and streamlined unit, we shouldn't really be jettisoning anyone until their replacement is fully integrated and up to speed within the squad, and can therefore step in seamlessly. The Premier League is brutal and we can't afford games with too many trying to adapt.

I agree with this. With only a very short turnaround before next season, it doesn't leave much time to integrate new signings and tweak our system. We'd be wise to hold on to our starting 11 and try to phase in any new signings. Our success has been built on a solid foundation and great defensive record so it would seem sensible not to overhaul this. Attackers is less of an issue if we can improve on what we've got.

It's vital that we hang on to the entire back 5 and midfield (probably with the exception of Lundstram/Berge), not only because they are all very good players but because they understand the system so well. It will be very very hard for someone to come in and slot in to any of those positions straight away, without the chance to get up to speed as an understudy. Berge is the perfect example of that.

Th strikers and fringe players probably wouldn't be missed nearly as much, as none of them have really set the world alight. Although a striker with Mousset's attributes won't come cheap.

JOC and Basham are irreplaceable. They play the hardest roles covering the most ground and are pretty much the backbone. Egan’s easily replaced as he’s just a central defender, but I’d rather keep him. Couldn’t give a shit about Norwood going, he’s playing awfully at the minute and it’s no surprise he’s been offloaded by his previous clubs when promoted.

McBurnie should absolutely be on the ‘we must keep’ list.

Don’t know why so many are so willing for us to lose him.
Yes the lad could be superstar, but all the tracking back he does, puts him seriously out of position when we put ball into the box. I’d swap him for a lazy, goal hanger like Keith Edwards.

Mousset on his day is our best attacker and isn't far off it taking into consideration all the games he's played.

Talk to the anti-McBurnie folk long enough and it tends to boil down to “why does he have to dress like a jeb-end?” and “why doesn’t he talk proper?”
I'm not anti-McBurnie so not really qualified to put a counter argument but for me it's because he looks nowhere near as accomplished a player for us as he did for Swansea, yes it's a league up but there is little comparison to the guy who regularly struck the ball cleanly and headed with power and direction from 2 seasons ago.

We coulc have the best strikers in the world ,but if we dont create chances no chuff will score.A pacy striker and a creative midfielder would be on my shopping list . Certainly keep hold off the back 5 ,and like someone mentioned o'Connell is paramount in everything good we do,and creates that balance in the side

So his personality is not for them, and fair doos on that (nobody is everyone’s cup of tea), but for me he’s done a cracking job on desperately limited service this season & as long as his bucket-hatted, Scarface-watching antics don’t cause anyone any harm then I will continue to roar him on to get double figures next season.
Agree.

Has nowt to do with his first touch.

Nothing whatsoever.

All about the Wak clobber and the “innit bro” 😉.

We have to try and get a tune out of the Moose. I don’t see how we replicate what he offers without spending big. He’s a big gamble though.
He’s had a season here. He’s proved that he has ability but cannot be relied upon to produce it. It was a similar story at Bournemouth That’s enough evidence for me. That was his chance. Move on

I can see Egan going , wilder always let's someone go to free up funds for the greater good and I can see it being egan , hed get a very good price for him and hes the easiest of the back 3 to replace , I wouldn't be worried if he did as wilder is constantly turning water in to wine

Lunny more because his contract dramas have pissed me off.

Can you expand on this? Wilder has still been playing Lunny, that alone would suggest the “drama” is just Chinese whispers.

Lunny’s form may have dropped (imo) but getting rid would mean another body to fill.

I think he has the potential to develop into a cracking box-to-box midfielder and personally think he is an asset to the squad.

Jack coming in for JoC was disruptive but he is improving and growing into the role, the opportunity to cash in on JoC for £50m would be tempting especially if it means 5 x £10m upgrades.

Just from what I've heard mate. You may well be right that there's nothing in it but usually there's no smoke without fire..

Happy if it's not true though

For me a lot are replaceable. Deano is replaceable there are plenty of good goalkeepers around.

Again Egan can be replaced if your spending big.

I think our style comes from JoC and Basham so for me they are the ones that cannot be replaced. Fleck also for me the money we would get for him would mean we wouldn’t be able to replace him.

I still think that the two strikers are capable of both getting into double figures if they get the service next season.
Keep them and add two more capable of getting 6each and we are well on the way.

People on here talking about easy replacements - WOW afraid that's immature tosh-

Baldock Bash Egan O Connell Norwood Berge Goldy Freeman (L) Osborn Fleck Mc Burnie Moose Sharp KEEP THE LOT it's the best formula we've had for 40 years

This is SUFC we are talking about the replacements will be downgrades not upgrades, way easier to hold onto, than replace.

WE have to replace Hendo- and we have to be realistic it will be a downgrade- but sell no F*****. Add a couple maybe.

And finally never ever replace CWAK-

Agreed- try and add quality competition to for the players we've already got, don't get rid of them.

whatever we want to keep if say for example some big club offered 65m for O'Connell ,,, or Egan
its in Wilders nature to rub his hands and find another nugget and pocket 60 m for replacements

There is a natural desire among fans to improve the squad, maybe funding some acquisition by the seeking assets.
I would appeal to all for some patience, because of the short close season, and volatile transfer market. Our financial situation is far from certain, or stable, with many claims on what little funding might be available.
I’m sure everyone will agree that, the current squad has overachieved. Wilders fingerprints of every aspect of the club will ensure that no one is coasting, from the academy to the kitman.
Then consider what has been achieved by this overarching management, look at Jack Robinson and Ben Osborn. Neither bought as an automatic replacement, but as competent cover for the likes of JOC and Fleck, we have not been let down.
Unless a bargain appears, or a replacement for Hendo comes up, keep the powder dry until the January window, when the market might be more amenable.
Don’t waste all the time and effort spent assembling and coaching this great squad, just to meet the need for change, because that has always been the way it’s done.
Under extraordinary circumstances, we need to rely on extraordinary management, instead of panicking sheep.
We have a great squad, pleas show some faith in them again. They deserve nothing less.

As has been said, all of the defence and midfield, and this summer window is shorter - it'll be a nightmare trying to do business and to replace them.
