Pointless thread copied from those #DefundTheBBC #fakenews ***** on FootballHeaven.
Always work from first principles.
The players are bit players in the picture when the manager is a third rate journeyman imbecile responsible for two of the worst seasons in the top division in the history of English football.
If you CANNOT see that you CANNOT assess the players either.
Exactly what of substance not cosmetic (ie 4 not 5) has Wilder done differently to his record breaking bad season of last?
We are exactly the same at a piss poor rather than mediocre standard.
Imbecilic manager 'fashions' have destroyed the quality throughout.
Are we even really SURE that Wilder will want to go up now he is in the money with THREE MORE YEARS based on his last two years and learning NOTHING.

Well, he’s won more matches than any other manager in our league. Does that count?

If we get promoted, who from our current squad would you say could make the step up to the Premier League based from this season so far. Even if we don’t get promoted who do you think could live up to the standards of the Premier League?

In my opinion it would be:

Cooper 100%

Hamer 100%

Burrows 50/50

Anel 50/50

Souza 50/50 only because of last season

Peck 75/25 he’s a fighter and I feel like he would be fine 100% as a good squad player

Arblaster 75/25 proved he can play in the Premier League did well and didn’t look too out of place last season

Brooks 50/50

O’Hare 50/50

Seriki 50/50

Tom Davies 50/50

Everyone else in our squad I feel like is simply not good enough to play in the Premier League. What do you reckon?
The Mascot?

Ironic I noticed you waited until a defeat to reply I think everyone can see what that's about

Okay. So you posted once you got triggered. Got it. You still clearly don't remember us coming 9th

I'd like us to sign Rak Sakyi. I think there's more to come from him. Let's hope it's with us

A surprise addition to the list. Tom Cannon.

I know he is not highly rated on here, but I recently learned that he is only 22 years old. A lot of development to come from him yet, and a worthy addition to the future of the club, possibly?

I honestly thought he was a seasoned pro until his career was covered on the pinch podcast!

Hamer, Arblaster, Cooper & maybe Campbell others like Anel have to convince me after last years debacle

Sorry that’s harsh but it’s not been great so far has it.

I think he'd do better (goong forward) for us if we were to be promoted then this league. Teams won't be that worried with us and him and won't be putting 2 or 3 players on to stop him, will have a lot of freedom.

But he would absolutely kill us defending as he's slow, lazy and often not sure where to go when defending.

As Aristotle once said "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" so picking individual players as being of premiership level doesn't always give you a team capable of being competitive.

I agree. I think the majority of the squad will be retained if we get promoted. I can see us looking to offload Adam Davies, RND, Shackleton, and Moore (and maybe McCallum and Cannon if it doesn't start to click). I know people are clamouring to upgrade JLT and Brewster, but I reckon they're fine as squad players.

We also have to replace half a dozen loans - I can see us trying to make Hamza and BBD permanent and maybe Holding if he comes good. And we will need to replace players in the squad who we loan out - Baptiste, Marsh and possibly One being the key ones.

I think that would leave us needing 1x goalie, 1xRB, 2XCB, possibly a LB, 1XDM (Hamza?), 1xCAM, 2x wingers (BBD? +1) and 2x strikers. That's a fair amount of change for us to get right and before replacing players we get silly offers for.

Even Brewster is making a go of it now! Moore won’t last forever, and the club is looking to stabilise in the Prem. I don’t see us spending big money on players now. We go with what we’ve got. Cannon as back up for Campbell and keep Robinson as backup CH.

We won’t splash big money until our current squad (with a few additions). achieves stsbility in the Prem, and some funding still needs to go on infrastructure projects.

I have hopes forthe future, but it will take time and money spent wisely. Why buy back up players when we already have the likes of Robinson and Cannon?

This, that's the managers job and he has the knack of getting the most out of a player's ability, that's what he gets paid to do. Whether CW has the ability to do this 2nd time around in the top league and keep us there is the thing, I'm sure he's learnt plenty from the past. So for us it's just enjoy the time, the occasion, that's what being a Blade has to be, that's all we have ever needed. I think we have the players now, a few additions maybe but the base structure has been laid. Looking at the Manchester teams and staying at the top, however much dosh you have, isn't always achievable.
After 65 years as a Blade I wouldn't swap, no way. City were best at Main Rd IMO and when Old Trafford has gone I'm sure there will be big regrets. The Lane will always survive however, Sheffield isn't ever going to be a profit making investment by the big money guys, hopefully!

Yeah I get that but I think if we manage to get over the line this season, we need to make promotion ‘worth it’ in the sense that if we’re taking relegation as a pretty much foregone conclusion then we should at least improve the club squad and have a better team at the end of it that we do at the start.

Never mind the squad.
We need massively to improve the first team … that’s the only way to give us a slight chance of staying up

Davies has the quality but is very brittle fitness wise I’m sorry to say
